Not really ME News, but those who're fans of Casey's work on ME and KOTOR, might like knowing he's now a Creative Director at Microsoft. Which is fitting, since Mass Effect started as a Microsoft exclusive game.

I thought it'd be weird if he left games completely.

I think a lot of people, especially the PC crowd forgets this fact. I prefer the PS4 version but remember, ME was birth'd from the Xbox 360.

I wonder if ME4 will have any X1 timed exclusives like DAI.

Didn't Casey originally graduate as an engineer? Makes sense I suppose. After Kinect would you entrust Microsoft with untold millions of dollars to be the next industry pioneer of holographic technology, because I certainly wouldn't.

I would like a Cortana for my living room though:

Bigwig of Destiny leaves bungie and goes back under Microsoft.

Bigwig of Mass Effect leaves Bioware and goes back under Microsoft.

I honestly think they were fed up of EA/Activision antics and control of their babies.

That is a distinct possibility - and I wonder how true.

I don't use Kinect much, but what's so bad about it? For something still in it's infancy, they can produce decent games with it.

They have spent an absolute fortune developing Kinect and it has been a commercial disaster in terms of ROI. Early adopters were rightly pissed off at being forced to pay over a hundred bucks for a barely improved brick only for it to be dropped like a brick. It's useless - even their own internal studios can't do a thing with it. Now they're onto their next useless gimmick the holoLens. Given their track record with Kinect I wouldn't bet on Microsoft being the company to popularize Holographic/VR tech with any degree of confidence. Good luck to Casey.

A lot of the Halo devs are returning to Microsoft and 343 from what I imagine. I just hope Casey stays as far away from Halo as possible.

As a long time Xbox owner, I'm glad to have him. They should have Casey working on a new IP as well(not just hololens).

Too bad nabbing him is just a consolation for missing out on buying out Bioware 7 years ago. Mass Effect would've been in much better hands than it has been with EA.

Why would Microsoft be any different? Usually when people get fed up with corporate BS they go into business for themselves or go to work for a smaller company, not a larger one.

It's not in it's infancy, it's in it's second retail iteration. And it's not a useful product. The uses it does have can't be relied upon and nothing it does is required or even game-enhancing. It's just another layer of interference with games, distracting you from the gameplay. Games have to be designed around it and unlike Wii or Wii U games none of the games designed around the Kinect are any good.

Good riddance. He single handedly ruined Mass Effect 3. It'll be good to see someone new and fresh at the helm of the ME franchise.

There's a lot of movement like this within an industry, though. It's easy to pick out two people from the hundreds that leave or enter positions and speculate some simple reason, while there's probably no correlation between the two at all. It's normal to want to try out something new and Casey had been with Bioware for a long time :)

This just sounds like a mini-conspiracy theory born out of the 'EA is evil' perspective.

Yes, visions of game disks coming in three different colors and lots of speculation from everyone as to why that is.

Luckily I don't want anything from Microsoft.

Well, not exactly singlehandedly. There is at least one other, worryingly unaccounted for.

And the art department and programmers who realized the thing, of course, along with all the people who watched the sequence take shape. It's obvious that this kind of observation happens in BioWare's offices.

Good news, glad to see good developers finding continued work in the industry.  This news doesn't affect Mass Effect, however.
