As title says. He is pretty much toilet paper on perilous. If you play without a barrier-providing character on perilous, he is dead, period (and don't say always bring a barrier character, sometimes it's fun without them :P ).

What do you guys think, would you like a bit of a buff towards his health, maybe scaling with the difficulty? If you play without barrier any tips to keep him alive? I know it's not a big deal losing change money but I like completing the goals.  ^_^

He will always follow whoever is hosting. He will stay in the same area within about an 8 feet radius of the host. Tell the host to hang back out of danger. If your host is a melee or AW, you don't have a prayer of keeping him alive.

I stopped caring about them when they started to insult me, calling me menial just because i am of low birth. I am here with the inquisition as an ally, on my own terms!

Lets do that thing they did in France.....LETS REVOLT!

Zone 2 of FC and we're sitting at that great ladder spot luring everyone to us. What does he do? Climbs the ladder because he hears the sweet song of his waifu the brute singing a sweet lullaby to him. Would it be so hard to make the A.I. characters cowards that run?

It's stupid, but I never actually thought of this. He seemed to me that he was always following the person who stays a bit behind on the map. Derp. xD

Well, the Orlesian one is a douche. But I agree with you! Vive l'Inquisition! :D

I'm rarely the host but when I am, and the messenger is the guy that insults the group, and it's not a perilous run, then I'll go out of my way to get him killed.

It's not like I can't just pry the message scroll from his cold dead hands and deliver the message to Josie instead. That's how I justify it at least.

Thought I was the only guy who did that.

Poor guy is like Don Quixote on perilous. A buff towards his health won't help. He needs a brain. He attacks anything which crosses his paths when he should squat in a corner.

He will always follow whoever is hosting.

I don't think this is true. I've got the impression he follows the person who stays a bit behind on the map, like kaileena said.

He does not have great success on Fereldan Castle, that's for sure. I didn't bother to pay attention to who was hosting, but I've had it several times where he'll tear off after the first melee to step out on Zone 4 and then he'll just whine about how incompetent we are when he can't be bothered to get out of the dots the dragon puts down.

I sorta wish it was possible for him to ping from party member to party member...or, in the case of significantly less annoying 'Inquisition Soldier,' actually fall back if he starts taking damage in melee mode. (Yes, I'm horrible and I don't totally mind when the messenger gets himself killed with his antics. xD )

Maybe he should always be an archer so he can stay out of the fight. Also, is it possible for him to respond to commands? Like stay in position when told.

Yes, I believe so too. Sometimes I have to go back to pick up a few new spawned enemies near the starting pt in FC area 2, and he would always follow me.

It's been quite some time since I looked at this script, but I'll see if I can shed some light on who is followed...

When the NPC is spawned there are two invisible triggers that are attached to them. The first is like a sonar pulse that slowly grows larger until it hits any player. At this time, the NPC will run toward the party.

The second trigger does not grow in size but as the NPC approaches the party members it will eventually collide with one of the players. Whichever player collides with the trigger becomes the target for the NPC to follow.

Neat.

Since we're protecting, I honestly think it'd be easier if he hung with the party member furtherest away but I guess if someone was afk, that wouldn't do anyone any good since mobs would rush them instead... hmm...

This sure sounds like a fancy way if saying this actually being a game of Capture the Flag. In this case the flag being a whiny, silky thing that flutters towards the sight of danger at any moment and burning to a crisp because of our incompetence.

Bioware please remove that line about incompetence. If I'd like to be trash talked, I'd have a conversation with my parents.

It's weird, but I've had it where sometimes if someone stays at the last font room we were in (whether due to being afk or otherwise), the NPC will stay by them the entire match while the rest of the group cleans the zone.

Makes it easier to protect them since they're not rushing towards the mobs, but it's a bit...... odd.  I'm guessing it's a glitch, based on the description of the follow-targeting.

What bothers me more then anything else is how ****** retarded the guy is. If you retreat because of overwhelming numbers he decides that the best course of action would be to attack those despair demons head on. Oh what, the dragon just set a staircase on fire? He don't care, he walks up the stairs anyway. You're defending a chokepoint? Lol better attack the enemies on the other side of your wall of fire.

I have just accepted the fact that on perilous(or even threatning castle runs) he dies 93.2% of the time.

Thank you so much for shedding some light on this! :D

Sadly, as things are I don't think you can make him more "intelligent" without majorly changing his script which would require both a patch and some effort.

So maybe for real, at least some meaty buff towards his health? Give him a fighting chance!

He should be more intelligent also. It happened to me that the party was farming in the 4th zone of the Fereldan Castle in the room at the bottom of the stairs and the Dro--ehm Messenger decided to charge the enemies. I mean, shouldn't he be hiding behind the Rion's skirt?

Yeah, especially the melee messenger has got the whole Leeroy Jenkins situation going for him. A personal fail on on my part from a perilous game the other day was that I got so concentrated on trying to barrier him and keep him alive (virtuoso) that I forgot about the team and they started dying a bit. xD Then, I madly rushed to them, revived and barriered, and buffed but in that not so long a moment in time he managed to die.  -_- I was like... come on, really?
