The game is bad, well, not bad, not just as good as Dragon age one. I have never gotten into an RPG like Dragon age one.

I like to describe Dragon age one as a red line, and every quest you do connects to that red line. Every quest you do changes something. It wasn't like Skyrim where you go and do one quest, finish it within 10 minutes and never see those guys again. Everything you did mattered. You killed him, someone would be angry at you later in the story. Everything affected everything.

That is what I loved about it.

Dragon age one had the story, and the maps right.

Dragon age 2 had the story right, it had a red line, but the maps were absolutely terrible. I accomplished every mission in Dragon age 1, and 2. I must have done 20 different quests in a 10 square meters area. It's you put every single character into one small box, and had the entire game right there. You talk to one guy, turn around the other guy you are going to talk to is right there. I don't mean I want to run lots of lots to find the other guy. Just don't make the area so small everyone is a house away from each other.

Dragon age inqusition. When i started playing this game I really wanted to finish every quest like i did in the previous. I DIDN'T MANAGE. The game bores me to death. Why is that? There is a hundred quests that literally does nothing, but give you a few items, and give you some influence points. ALL the people I helped in Dragon age inqusituion I forgot 5 minutes after. It's like, who are you? In Dragon age Inqusition there is no red line, except for the story mission. What made dragon age 1 and 2 so great was it's story, every quest connected into one thing. Dragon age inqusition has 500 quests where none connects. The maps are also boring because of this. It really does feel like an offline mmorpg. Go there, kill 5 chickens. WHAT MAKES MMORPG GOOD is the friends you make, and the stories you make with them. DRAGON AGE barrely has any story of any kind. It's bad. I tried my best to do every quest in the game, but just had to finish it around 5 days ago. It really bores me to death.

I've played through twice. Over 100 hours each time. Like you I vastly preferred DAO. But, it's not a bad game. Better than DA2 at least IMO. Yes, definitely too much of an MMO feel to it. Combat is boring and repetitive thanks to the 8 abilities limitation but at least the combat encounter design was more balanced than DA2's endless trash mob/lemming slaughter. And the bloody platforming elements sucked. But the handful of main story quests were outstandingly well done IMO. Companions were a mixed bunch but some were fantastic. I enjoyed a lot of the story twists and turns hugely.

Open world was...pretty. Wildlife was immersive. But once again the non-party NPC's in the world were largely lifeless. I really do wish Bioware could take a page from other RPG's where NPC's actually had a schedule that mimics having some kind of a life and can respond to events around them (weather, a fight breaking out, etc) That the world had a proper day/night cycle. No, not a huge deal but it stuff like that really does make the world come alive. And the less said about the crap hair options the better. Even Bioware's devs must know they were embarrassingly bad.

Taken for what it was I think it's a pretty good game overall. Certainly great value for money and vastly more enjoyable than yet another shooter. No, it's not the game I wish they'd make (DAO2) but it's the game they made and it was still fun. So, I disagree that it was bad. Some aspects definitely lack compared to DAO. But some other aspects were better (C'mon, no one misses the silly underwear sex scenes do they?)

I'll be interested to see how they develop the franchise from here. I doubt they'll ever scale the heights they achieved with KOTOR/DAO ever again, but they're still a damned good developer overall. No longer my favorite developer, sadly, but still in the top echelon. And they might surprise me and actually surpass themselves going forward which I would be very happy to see.

Well, the tools should be good for the next few.  There will be no excuse for a poor stories and inconsistent plots after spending so much on the tools and the aggravation that they have put the players through and the stress on their systems.

Your mileage may vary, I've clocked over 1,000 hours.

Most enjoyable game of 2014 for me, though I recognise personal preference.

I agree that DAI is worse than DAO, but DA2? Seriously? I don't understand why people started it's reabilitation. DAI storyline is burried under terrible fetch quests, but is still longer and more coherent than DA2 plot.

In DAI they made large open location "like Skyrim duh", but failed to make quests "like Skyrim". But did you forget that DA2 had fetch quests as well - "Here, I've got some human bones for you - Nice, here's your pay". Yeah, DA2 also had these cool "let's speak a bit before I kill you" side quests. And all this in same cave over and over and over. And over again.

Combat is pretty much the same, except that Risen From Dead and Pride Demons are cannon fodder now (which is bad) and enemies no longer fall from sky in hundreds (which is good).

So for me DAI is worth it's price, unlike DA2 which tried to be AAA game with A- budget.

I think the thing about most of the sidequests is that they only specifically tie into the zone they are found in not the main storyline, each zone has a mini-storyline or 2 which most of the quests in the zone affect either directly or indirectly.

Spoiler

All/most the sidequests don't tie into the game's main story quest chain, this is true, they have their own mini-storylines separate to it instead.

I've managed over 1500 hours played and at least 8 completed playthroughs. I know it's hard to notice the mini-stories in the game as most people are justifiably in favour of the main story chain only and everything affecting it alone. Even the actual noticing of these mini chains is personal preference. I personally enjoy the mini story lines connected to each zone as I find they make the zones a touch more meaningful without detracting from the main quest chain.

I put the game away some time after patches 3 & 4 came out (released simultaneously, IIRC). I haven't played it since. I have no urge to play it again, and I don't expect I ever will. DAO was by no means perfect, but I liken it to a distinctively-flavored microbrewery beer. DAI, by contrast, is more like Budweiser.

I have played DAI almost 300 hours, i just did another playthrough after the black emporium was released and i got some mods working to fix some things. I expected a lot more from the game based on the videos that were shown about the game like breaking structures and bridges that were completely removed from the game, (Decisions about saving people from demons or help defend castle if i remember this correctly) destroying ships with fire. The game was obviously pushed out before it was even close to being ready, There are extremely few armors and you couldn't even change your face before the patch 7 came out the reason i stopped playing for long time.

I got the image that the game would be more realistic with the explorable places with animals and better more natural ai but it's the same as DA2. Enemies i just killed spawning again in line of sight and corpses disappear instantly, yesterday i saw 2 giants pop out of nowhere while i was standing 30 meters away The goofy ai and spawning instantly kills any immersion about the world. The goofy ai wasn't so distracting in DA2 because the game wasn't as serious as this tries to be and makes exploring some forests tedious because they are full of respawning bears. The story is very short after the skyhold there is only 3 missions and the ending they were clearly out of time and the story has no climax nor good pacing.

Most of the side missions are useless fluff for grinding power points without any choices. DA2 had far better side missions some i still remember but i can't remember any interesting side mission from this game. The maps are way too big as there is nothing interesting to find and no good side missions to do. The story and side missions in my opinion were better in DA2 the story was small scale but it had proper pacing and each act had something interesting going on. DA2 maps were terribly overused and it was complained about. So this game has huge maps just for sake of being huge so there is not enough interesting things to do and no dynamic events.

The main character is really bad i expected there at least to be some personality choice like angry sarcastic diplomatic that would effect what the inquisitor says in different situations but no they completely dropped that feature that made me like DA2 , it makes the roleplaying experience much worse when it can be heard that the actor just reads the lines from the paper without any attitude. Hawke is superior protagonist compared to inquisitor just being a robot that has no personality and only says anything when commanded to say.

I still like the game and will probably play it again at some point and there is no other games like it but right now it has made me miss Hawke so i may have to play Dragon Age 2 with sarcastic Hawke again. (Sorry for the long post just wanted to share my thoughts for once)

The cut content you are talking about was from a leaked footage that showed the alpha version of Inquisition, the devs never said those things would have been in-game.

I don't even want to comment the other bullshit scattered in your post.

300-400 hours clocked (depending on whether you count multiplayer) and DAI at least 50% better than Origins & Awakening.

Man, that annoys me about forums. People quoting the entirety of lengthy posts just to address a single point or to say "Yah, I agree!"

DAI open-worldness gives me too much MMORPG feel. There is tons of open-world games with fetch guest around, why did Bioware have to sacrifice their quest content and cinematic dialogue etc. to achieve boring open world?

deusex_human-revolution-586x286.jpg

The open-world itself is not bad, but it's just not worth sacrificing other much more intresting and Biowareish content for.

My post sounds negative but i'm not hating the game obviously i wouldn't have played it so much if that were the case.

The cut content i mentioned was from live demo there's no reason for the features to be shown there if they are not in the final game.

I didn't say my opinions are facts like i said at the end of my post they were my opinions so i don't know why you feel the need to state them as bullshit.
