Here is mine.

The hero/heroine the one who makes daily wonders: doing somethig extraordinary with the scarce resources at his/her disposal, even when there are self-sacrifices to be made.

And then there is the antagonist (or even the anti-hero)

A perennial disaster: the antagonist obtains the worst failures (not necessarily on actions or achievements, but also morals), even with all the resources and the help he could obtain, and when he seems to be effective, he's in fact not sacrificing himself but it's all by easy humanitarian gestures or by sacrificing others.

Do serious posts or don't post at all. Posts from #3 to 7# are off topic and tedious.

I have been rebuked and shamed.

A hero is someone who improves the world at personal risk and effort. Superman is not much of a hero by that definition, unless there is kryptonite involved. Batman is.

Better?

Hero = Anyone who agrees with me,

Not being a hero = Anyone who disagrees with me.

Superman's enemy are just as tough as him and Superman has even given his life to stop Doomsday from hurting even a single person.

Most of Superman's enemy (Zod, Darkseid, Doomsday, Brianiac) are strong and smart enough to crush the EARTH in less than a day

Superman is a hero.

I get the sentiment but think it could be worded better, to be fearful isn't cowardice and to be a coward is to let your fear prevent you from doing the right thing in the name of self preservation. Courage isn't the absence of fear but the strength to overcome it.

universal balance and harmony

In a word "peace", maybe.

What is peace? How is peace kept?

"Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding." (A. Einstein)

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other." (Therese of Calcutta)

"Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset." (Francis of Sales)

Drawing conclusions, if the hero exists to keep peace, he cannot force it on other people, he has to let people understand peace by themselves, he has to be the glue that keeps people near each other, and finally he has to keep peace in himself for all the time being while he is the hero of the people.

I doubt any of the depicted modern heroes do anything near these definitions.

But again, having peace in ourselves: is it a real challenge or not? When am I in peace with myself and others? When I don't harm them? A lot of people doesn't harm others but they hate them. When I'm calm and relaxed? Calm and relax don't last forever, I will be put in an uncomfortable situation and I have to be 1 - prepared to react 2 - have the will to react.

Superman's heroism is mostly in his character, and the fact he makes not only choices which are for the greater good, but choices and sacrifices he does not have to make at all (including occasionally losing his powers or risking death through kryptonite) since if he was selfish nobody could do jack to him. He never has to, it is never for his future or his people's future, just because it's the right thing to do.

Old Superman is a great hero for the strong male growing up imo, because he demonstrates the idea of caring about others and putting yourself out for them as a person who could all too easily look out for number one and be all but indestructible.

As for modern Batman, he is almost exactly not a hero. He's basically a horrible arsehole when you get down to it, haha :)

We have to ask David -- the one true authority on heroism.

In seriousness, I define "hero/heroine" as someone who seeks to bring the truth to light and use it to make the world a better place for all or most.
