Which "unimportant" characters could have a bigger role in the next game?

Sorry for the weirdly worded title.

I remember back when DAO came out, a lot of people were upset at the perceived plot importance of Morrigan and Alistair versus Leliana and Zevran. And, yeah... Zevran got shafted, but Leliana went on to have a couple cameos in DA2 and then had a HUGE role in Inquisition.

Every now and then someone says something similar about Sera or Blackwall or Josephine (compared to, say... Solas or Cassandra. He's apparently a god and she's responsible for dragging you to the Inquisiton in the first place, and she can also become Divine).

So, assuming any of these characters pop back up again in future installments, which less plot-central character could potentially be given a bigger role in the plot than they have now?

(Of course, they could also be in no-show character limbo like most of DA2's cast, rendering this post irrelevant.)

If you just hate the idea of recurring characters on principle, I suppose that's fine too. :P

If the next game heads toward Tevinter, Dorian would be a neat character to bridge us north. And Calpernia could fit in somewhere.

Of course, the impractical part of me wants Blackwall to make a comeback, but I don't see a realistic way he can do that. Doesn't mean it'll never happen though!

it would be cool to see a future game set in Tevinter. Dorian and Calpernia are my character picks to have bigger roles.

It'd be kind of sweet if in the event we do get a Warden story follow-up to the whole Weisshaupt thing, Blackwall shows up, provided the Inquisitor decided that he go to the Wardens after Corypheus is defeated.

I would think it would be hard. Both Dorian and Calpernia made themselves outlaws. Dorian by working for shouthern chantry and Calpernia by serving a blight monster. I don't see either of them getting keep their heads in the Imperium.

That said I would like to see Morrigan return.

I thought for sure we'd see Carver or Bethany in DAI, if they were Wardens. :(

Both of these, please!

If we're in Tevinter for DA4, I fully expect Maevaris to be a companion. She is too awesome of a character to be confined to a comic one-off. I've seen people even suggest Calpernia as a potential companion in DA4, and that could prove interesting. She was certainly a "shades of grey" type of villain. She had a noble goal but was willing to do horrific things to get there. Choosing to fight her lack of ethics or go along with it could be a fun RP opportunity. There isn't a scenario in DA:I in which you can definitively say that she's dead so she could certainly come back in some fashion.

And again, adding to the idea of going to Tevinter... I would expect to see Dorian and Fenris return. Possible recurring companions? If so, I'd prefer one or the other. I like both characters but am enjoying the DA method of giving us a new batch of companions in each game. I didn't mind seeing Varric again, so apparently I can tolerate one.

Maybe Scout Harding? Assuming she isn't followed up too much in DA:I DLC. She could be scouting someplace north for the Inquisition (maybe spying on the situation with the Qun for the Inquisitor?) and gets recruited by our protagonist from there. She could have a lot of different dialogue depending on how we played DA:I and give us updates on what our Inquisitor is up to.

I could see Dorian have a role if we do go to the Tevinter Imperium.

I'd like to see Cole again. I sort of feel like there's more to that story.

Maybe Krem

1. He's well-liked by many

2. There's an option to kill him and we all know how BioWare handles deaths of populat characters

None. Ideally, none should even appear. I'd prefer a new cast, aside from maybe characters that are on the level of cosmic forces.

Compared to Sera, Blackwall and Josephine, Vivienne barely has any character development or arc in the entire game? Most people during their first playthroughs are likely to even realise that she can become Divine, because it's got so little build up and plot-relevancy? It just sorta... happens?

I'd love to see Vivienne really have a chance to shine, be it as one of the protagonists or even as an antagonist?

I'd like to see more of Vivienne, too.

Though I'm not sure what she gets up to if she's not Divine?

I think Calpurnia is almost guaranteed to come back.   The way it was left with her, even in WoT2, makes me think it likely she will return, may be even as a companion, which would be interesting.     Her back story was interesting and her ideas for the emancipation of slaves were admirable even if her means of achieving this were questionable to say the least.   In a way she is the exact counterpoint to Dorian.    She is steel hearted but against slavery; he is warm hearted but defends it.

Dorian may come back in a cameo role but I doubt he would reappear as a companion again, although there is a precedent for this, and at least they don't have the problem that you could have killed him.    If the next game is set in Tevinter and trouble is brewing there, then I can see why he wouldn't want to stay out of it.

Maevaris is likely to be another who will make an appearance if set in Tevinter.    More likely to be someone who assists rather than actually becomes a companion.

Fenris is meant to be featuring in an up coming novel, so that will likely exclude him from participation in the next game, but keep a watch for interesting characters appearing in the book; with any luck they will be another Cole or Felassan (I was so disappointed when it was clear we would never meet him).

From DAO I would like to have seen more of Caridin and the Lady of The Forest, but both die, still, Swiftrunner would be somehow better than master Denet for mounts don't you think? Companions, as you said, Zevran (since Leliana has relevance on DAI), Oghren and Shale were left aside.

From DA2 I really enjoyed Aveline, however she has importance, the only wasted companions there were the Hawke twins, even Tallis had an online serie to develop her.

Dark Horse comics often let me a bad taste if they are related to any videogame, I don't know why, but somehow the writers manage to kill the cool characters there and develop some new ones with a lot of potential just to kill them in a few issues, Gaider had to break a record or something, even a generic covie mercenary from Halo got more develop than some of his characters in the comics.

DAI took more care of his characters than the other games, more dialogue options and no one can be possibly killed, different from the previous games, I think I'm going to pick Calpernia, Vivienne and Blackwall (just imagine a comic book series focused on Blackwall's joining and the conflict of Weisshaupt, a good way to bring back many characters IMO as long as the writers don't kill most of them.)

As few as possible, and any that do show up are bit characters. People like Charade, who are guaranteed to be alive and only had a personality developed but little else.

I'd love to see Cole, Dorian, and Maevaris return. I'd also like to see what happened to Calpernia. None of that seems out of the question since we might move north.

Lets leave it at that.
