A rectification. Backpedaling

No backpedaling would imply the statement has shifted.

It hasn't.

This supposedly important character wasn't even given a codex entry.

Neither was the current Archon or King Markus or a half dozen other characters I could name ranging from past companions to other notable living persons.

All in all.

I'd say relevancy shouldn't be measured by entries in the Codex.

I'd say relevancy shouldn't be measured by entries in the Codex.

As a person who had a direct influence in starting the Mage-Templar war, one would expect him to have some relevancy or importance to someone in Thedas, enough to at least get a codex. Yet, aside from the manner in which he ceased existing, no one cares.

In the end, he accomplished nothing (at least, nothing the people of southern Thedas would want him to accomplish), and died a nobody.

No, that's what happened, as demonstrated in Inquisition.

Well I'd point out he was referenced in Codex.

So obviously someone thought his declaration of annulment worthy of history.

Again, with the point of his death being the most significant.

Lambert, chronic inconvenience for southern Thedas.

Actually his death isn't mentioned in the Codex

I thought you were referring to that one. Though, his ultimatum is quite hilarious in hindsight.

I think Harding is a shoe-in for DA4 companion, she's popular with both the fans and the devs, and there's a clear demand to see more of her. Being that she's the lead scout of the Inquisition there's also good reason for her to be found in Northern Thedas.

Another character that we'll likely see more of is Amund The Sky-Watcher, he started off as just another recruitable agent but fans took a liking too him, and he got his own war table mission in Jaws of Haakon, and then became a multiplayer character in Dragonslayer. So it's obvious the devs like him too. If he becomes a companion I won't be suprised, and that it's canon that he joins the Inquisition regardless of the player's actions there's a legitimate reason for him to be in Northern Thedas.

Dorian, and Calpernia will likely be in the game as major NPCs. Since it's essentially been confirmed that we'll be going north next game we'll likely deal with problems in Tevinter. There's good reason for them to be involved, both of them want to reform the Tevinter Imperium but have different ideas to do so. Dorian outright states that he wants to return to Tevinter to change the country, and Calpernia is never confirmed dead regardless of the player's actions so she can return easily. It helps that both of them have advocates on the writing team.

There's other characters that I'd like to see personally, like Fairbanks, and Charade Amell, but the ones I listed above seem the most likely.

Mihris: Formally possessed by Imshael-Spirit of Choice and one of the Forbidden ones. Dalish elf mage looking for another clan to join.

Michel: For the sake that he's a disgraced Chevalier half elf.

Maybe one of Josephine's many siblings? Perhaps one of them is a Bard or a Crow?

I'd love to see Shale, Fenris, Cole, Merrill, Dagna and Scout Harding return; Isabela and Alistair too, but they're already too important, aren't they? I echo sentiments on Dorian (although I found him annoying at the start, I warmed up to him), and probably Calpernia and Maevaris too, though I don't know much about them (I'll catch up on that).

I wouldn't want to see Vivienne again. Perhaps it'd be fine if I could give her a much needed verbal smack down. For all her verbal abuse, the Inquisitor could do nothing, say nothing. Destroy her dialogue armor, and we'll see. Needless to say, she wasn't Divine. My Inquisitor would personally ensure her petty self wouldn't get positions of real influence. Probably.

I agree that Scout Harding and Amund need more spotlight, because they really make you wish you could know more about them.  I don't hold much hope that we'll see anyone who could have been a romance option in the next installment.  I think there are so many ways players can interpret the fate of Inq and LI, tying up loose ends will just disappoint and detract from the story they're shooting for in the next.  The exception here is Solas, sadly.  His story always ends the same way, in a cliffhanger.  I just hope he gets knocked off his high horse and gets his nose rubbed in his own blind arrogance next time.

LELIANA.   I joke, I joke, no one have a meltdown.  :P I actually want her to ride off into the sunset with the Warden finally, ta very much. My two favourite characters of the series, herself and Morrigan, have had plenty of screen time already, so I'm pretty satisfied (mostly - issues with certain character development elements have been discussed to death). Poor Alistair could do with a decent cameo, though!

"Unimportant" is a tricky term. Minor NPC wise, I'm curious as to what became of Bodhan and Sandal. And I completely second/third/fourth the Wade & Herren request. Former companion wise, I've always wondered what happened to Shale after Asunder. She was one of my favourites of the series. Also I'd love to know what Velanna has been up to.

From DA:2 I'd like to see Aveline in a cameo. Bethany Hawke, too. I'm half curious as to what became of Anders if you didn't kill him, half dreading ever finding out...  My Inquisition slots go to the dashingly wonderful Dorian, and also Scout Harding.

Funnily enough while Viv is probably my most "disliked" DA:I companion (yes, even Sera is way ahead of her), I do agree she was underdeveloped by comparison. I'd give her a shot at some more screen time.

Harding would be my pick for the token dwarf slot, since Varric has stated that he's going back to Kirkwall once the DLCs are done with.  She's not considered very important at this time, other than some exposition.  I would love to have her in my party as the first dwarven lady as a part of the original cast in a BioWare game.

We had Sigrun, but she was just for Awakening, and she's unlikely to return.  In the nearly 17 years since BioWare started making games with dwarves involved, there has never been a lady dwarf companion in a main game.  Harding would be an excellent choice in my opinion.  She would also make a good tie-in between games instead of a returning party member saying, "I helped kill Corypheus."

Mae deserves some on-screen time at least, although I'd hope she's a companion.  A good-aligned full blown magister with some sass and an overall positive attitude?  Shoot, I'll happily take it.

Where in blazes is Sandal?!?  I know about the dwarf that looks a lot like him in the Fade during the templar quest.  Last we heard, he was supposed to be heading to Orlais because the Empress was interested in his skills.  TME entirely focused around the Empress and her troubles, and not one peep about Sandal or Bodhan in the book or in the game.

I'll admit, it just doesn't quite feel like a Dragon Age game without hearing "ENCHANTMENT!" at least once.

I kind of saw them as the C-3PO and R2-D2 of Dragon Age, always conveniently becoming close to someone who is about to alter history in a major way. I was very surprised that they didn't show up in Inquisition. Surely they could have set up shop in Skyhold? Or at least make a cameo at the Winter Palace? If they don't make it into any DA:I DLC, then they certainly better come back in the next game.

You know, a DLC would work for me.  They deserve a mention.  Plus, Bodhan wasn't a young dwarf anymore, and he wanted someone to take care of Sandal.  I'd like to see Bodhan one more time.  Or, if the writers are cruel and kill him off-screen (which they might,) then at least let us visit his grave.

I do think that the dwarf appearance in the Fade was a nod from the writers that they haven't forgotten about Sandal.  A dwarf in the Fade?  Unheard of, unless you're with the Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor.  Who's the only dwarf we've seen that really looks like he's half in this world and half in the next?  Sandal.  I've always gotten the feeling that there was something more to him, although I don't buy into the theory that June (the elven god of crafts) is Sandal though.   :P

I do suspect that he's only part dwarf though.  I do think his other half is elven.

Dagna's close, but she's more like a tinker gnome than a savant.

For him, it's more like he's half in Thedas and the other half in a bottle.  :P

If you count Awakening as a separate unit, all the games have had a bridge companion:

  • Oghren bridges Origins and Awakening
  • Anders bridges Awakening and DA2
  • Varric bridges DA2 and Inquisition

So if we're going to Tevinter, Dorian is the most likely returning companion.

That's not what the OP asked - companions aren't exactly minor - but since Dorian is friends with Mae according to war table missions, that gives Mae a very good chance.

As for minor characters, in part because they've taken so much flack over retconned deaths, the devs are very, very reluctant now to bring characters back to life.  And because it takes much more space to have Shroedinger's characters in the game if they live, the characters with the best chances to return are those who are alive in any worldstate.

Harding is very much loved, but she has no reason I can see to be in Tevinter.  Gaider stated that after Oghren in Awakening, he didn't want to shoehorn characters in just because they're popular...but he's no longer running the show at Dragon Age.

Dagna is another popular one, and I could definitely see an Arcanist going to Tevinter.

Feynriel's chances are low because he's dead or tranquil in so many worldstates, but I could see a Connor-like cameo for him.  A quest for Calpernia, who was planning to overthrow the Tevinter government when she got back.

I'm going to elaborate on this more in another thread when I have more time, but I think we'll see Eleni Zinovia, the sentient stone statue from the mage's tower in Ferelden.  She and her son loom large in the World of Thedas 2 book - and World of Thedas 1 was crammed with clues about Inquisition.

Her son is revealed to be Archon Hessarian, who both killed and converted to Andraste, which means the archon had access to the one person in the game whose prophecies are known to at least sometimes be accurate.  Mark Laidlaw confirmed after Witch Hunt that we'd see her again, and Kinloch hold is abandoned since the mage-templar war so the statue could be anywhere.
