Seems like no matter what I make, once I get in game it looks like a Simpsons style overbite/duck face.

It's definitely possible (at least in ME1 or ME2; I have no experience with ME3 in this regard, since the characters that reach ME3 for me are transfers from the earlier games)! You have plenty to choose from as a foundation for your own creation here.

Slightly annoyed. I finally made a femshep I'm kinda okay with but she looks horrific from a profile view and the hair I chose constantly clips in combat so I have to keep the helmet on

Its all views that you can't see in character creator. Like there her nose and eyes looked fine but a profile view in game shows a needle nose and sunken in eyes its creepy.

depends on the lip shape you're using and the thickness of that lip. BTW, give a picture example.

Based on those pics, I think you have a femshep core idea that could be chiselled out a little further. To lose that round babyface and make her look stronger, you should try a different facial structure and a greater chin height. That type of eyebrows can also make the character often appear afraid or lacking in willpower, which is the very opposite of the character she needs to have for the role as commander in this mega adventure, so it could be a good idea to test other types of brow.

If you want to keep that hairstyle, here's an example with clear differences in facial structure and chin height, courtesy of SolidSolidino:

You find the data about how to reproduce that character (for some tweaks of your own) in posts #1 and 55 in the thread linked to above. Another idea with that hairstyle is the following, courtesy of AkodoRyu:

Reproduction data in posts #1 and 107 in said thread. Easily adjusted to taste.

Don't give up on the femshep career. It's a fun option to refreshen the game, even if one's main character is a maleshep. ;)

Eh the jawline is too strong on both of those my tastes. I intentionally tried for a cuter face (though I admit I did too much of a baby face) because I want my character to look like a woman, not a mortal kombat style manface like default femfshep.

I like the first one but id tone down the jawline.

But the real question is how's their silhouette in profile?

Just wow I wish I could use Jennas hair from mass effect 2. Best ladies hair in the series IMO but its unique to her :(

You can't adjust the depth of your lips but I think you need to tweak the depth of the chin so it won't make the lips 'jutting'? And the chin is too small.

A good rule of thumb for me is go with Preset Face 1. It's the face that requires the least tweaking in matters such as nose, mouth and chin position as well as cheeks and bone cheeks.

However, for any further tutorial, you could have a look at this youtube clip here.

Profile of SolidSolidino's Jane (converted to ME1 by me):

Profile of AkodoRyu's Ada (converted to ME1 by me):

If you find these jawlines too strong, just reduce their values for chin height and jaw width (in Ada's case, I'd reduce the eye depth a little bit as well).

Beregond's video tip is a good one. You could also do well to study the faces of real women who look good. You might be surprised to note how strong their jawlines often are.

And if you want to see what's possible in terms of pretty...

ChiZ's Alma (converted to ME1 by me) at your service.

Maybe I should show anyone who wants an answer to the question stated in the title of this thread one more thing. Below is one of my own characters, named Ginger:

I've had two femsheps worth taking to the end of the trilogy. Ginger is not one of them (so far). One of the reasons being that she uses a femshep texture by CDJAMJC, as seen in the second pic. This texture somehow smoothens the basic features of the character to a more agreeable appearance. The problem is that you cannot take that texture with you to the next game. So the character is likely to come out different in ME2, perhaps so different that one loses the feeling for her. I have not bothered to go through the whole of ME1 only to see this happen to Ginger. But as you can see, while in ME1, due in part to a texture mod, Ginger could spice up the game quite a bit.

I hope my examples here and in my thread show that, with a little perseverance in the face generator mode, one could have a blast playing the game with a good-looking heroine (mostly) of your own making. ;)

I'm constantly remaking right now as I try to make a decent Hispanic looking femshep with the short hair

That's it, Silvair, you just need to keep at it until all details sit right. My own creations are the result of taking screenshots of each version to compare them with each other to see in what direction I need to go, noting the slider positions of each attempt for precise adjustments, and then redo the work until it appears OK. I think it's well worth the trouble (for immersion and everything) when one ends up with a product that pleases one's own taste.

A Hispanic-looking femshep is a very nice idea. The darker skin and hair will go very well with the yellow survivor armor, for instance. I wish you the best of luck with that project.

I don't know if you've taken a peek into that thread of mine I submitted a link to above, but one of my other femsheps seen there is actually a Native American woman. Might therefore be interesting to see for the potential of your own idea:
4OOzgvC.jpg

Due to the facial problems I had with my canon maleshep, the above character ("Medicine Woman") ended up being the first who saved the whole galaxy for me, sacrificing herself in the process, just like a true heroine. No game of any kind has had a greater emotional impact on me. This In some part due to the personality I envisioned this character to have, as suggested by her appearance. So this woman will always be special to me. :)
