Hello everyone!

So in inquisition we get to see the wonders of what Dagna can accomplish with runecraft, despite not being a shaper.

Which gave me this idea.

Introduce shaper as a third, unique, class option for dwarven characters.

Since origins, dwarves have been limited to classes and specialisations within the scope of warrior and rogue. Obviously this is due to the lore of dwarves not being able to dream /draw upon the Fade to cast spells which is fine.

However, we know that they can forge powerful runes with varied effects, and that shapers can do much more than simple runecraft. What exactly, i believe, can be shown through the introduction of this new class option.

To implement this, i think it could be done through skills that activate.a runes abilities. These could be buffs to grant more damage, armor and speed to the shaper, in a way similar to the d&d cleric or runepriest, though different in that it focuses on the shaper themself.

As an alternative, maybe this could be an option as a specialisation for dwarves regardless of their base class, so that dwarven warrior or rogue can gain access to shaper skills.

:)

Sounds like a specialization than a class all on its own

It's a good idea, but I agree.  Still, +1 to the OP for coming up with something cool.

I agree that it'd make more sense as a specialization, but I like the idea of some kind of Arcanist or Enchanter class, so long as it doesn't get too magey.

This would certainly be very cool to see. I've always felt that dwarves, in what they were offered in terms of class options, got the short end of the stick. I mean I understand the lore reasoning behind it, but it seems like it'd be nice if every race had three class options (mage, warrior, rogue for the elves, qunari, and humans, and what you suggested, alongside with the usual rogue and warrior, for the dwarves).

It'd certainly freshen things up.

Agreed with those who say it's better as a specialization. I would LOVE for DA4 to introduce race specific specializations!

That's why i figured it.could revolve around buffing and maybe some traps?
Especially if mages are going a CC /DD route

Given the info on qunari and possible draconic ancestry, reaver-like class would fit a tal-vashoth character quite well me thinks :)

It is unfair that they get only 2 classes to the other race's 3, but... This isn't feasible. Them having their own class would mean they would need a new weapon type created solely for themselves since all classes have their own unique weapon types, they would need 3 new specializations for just them, they would possible need a new armor type if they're not going to just be given one of the 3 existing armor types. Just adding a single new class sounds simple until you think about everything else that would have to come with it.

I think i'd be on board with it if every race had a special name for their type with race oriented abilities.

I don't see an issue that can't be overcome.  Assume that dwarves get only additional perks for runecrafting any weapon or armor, say 20% or so - immunity to lyrium, other classes simply can't - too toxic.

I would love for dwarfes a third class. Some kind of alchemist/rune master. Or, and this is something I have in mind from when I read The Calling, some kind of hand combatant class like Utha. like clerics from D&D (if I remember right).

They could use some kind of rune-powered gloves as "weapons".  :)
