Aren´t you intruding a military operation camp then in a state of war?
 
Besides, you don´t need to show violence in the game. Your pc is supposed to pass each combat to advance the game, therefore you don´t need to see it. You could have instavictory button and not see the unnecessary violence.


The point to the post that you snipped is that we're at war. We don't have a "skip all combat" toggle, just like we don't have a "skip the nudity" toggle, and I'm not of the opinion that we need either one, despite the monikers that some would just love to hang on me.

I actually want to follow up on that quote: calling it " love making" and doing it in the bedroom, versus it ***** and doing it in the kitchen while handcuffing your partner to a table, versus doing it in sex club with four other people, is reflective of your character. To say that sex doesn't have a role in plot driven character stories is wrong.

 

 

Just wow! Where are you going with this? Different stokes for different folks. I didn't mention sex clubs or handcuff. I don't need them. Maybe you do.

I didn't say this as well.

 

Here is exactly what I mean. Think of it as pure marketing. Most married people spend less time playing.  They are playing it for a different reason. They could be interested in puzzles, builds and action. Fade to black or their current is just fine.

 

The romance may not be as important because we know it is virtual NOT REAL. You get to a given cut scene by using a conversation tree.

 

Why would this group be interested in more nudity when they have it at home?

 

The same group needs to balance their time. We are not playing to find love in a video game.

 

PS: what is sexy to me is different than what it is to you. You need handcluff and extras. Whatever rocks your boat.

 

Sexy to me is a sensitive, man who likes cooking, classical music and is very muscular. Now can you wrap your head around that. No submissive for me.

No, you both are uncomfortable watching making love in games, it is your right and you can skip those scenes by pressing esc. But your arguments "oh, what about our children!" is absolutely silly! I have two little children and I play only when they sleep = in my free time... no, I really do not feel I am beeing denyied to play a game... Maybe these parents should spend more time with their children and less with video games - one day they could be surprised what they are watching in TV in the other room (tv series full of violence since very morning, great, but no sex, so you are Ok with that)...

Besides nudity is natural for children. So what bother you? That they can see naked breasts or two men hugging and kissing? Isn't it nice? They love each other like mum and dad... no problem with that. What has bad impact on little children is hectolitres of blood and killing - because they do not understand why are people hurting each other. That is bad...

 

And again, no one here is talking about actual porn in games.

 

 

You don't have a clue. What is really being said is this:

 

The video game is not real love. Technically it is just a conversation tree that lead to a cut scene. How can anyone confuse this with the real thing? Love is not accomplished by a conservation tree. We don't share your extensive imagination.

 

There is nothing natural or real in the game. It is a virtual world. It serves the purpose of a game, and is not a substitute for a real life.

Married people can express love easily and they don't need the fantasy stuff you mentioned.

 

Yes, but in the same way, a couple in love does express their love during sex, as well.

 

For some couples, getting a pineapple, engine oil and twelve paperback copies of Sir Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe" somehow involved, is a legitimate sign of affection they would not share with others.

 

I'm not saying I personally need raunchier scenes in BioWare games, but they are just as valid forms of pure & strong love as anything.

I hear what you are saying. Everyone has a different reason to play. I just don't need a game to start me up. I don't know many couples that do. To be honest we don't have that much time to play because it can interfere with our real relationships.

 

So there is a market for people who don't play as much, and just want the builds, puzzles and story. The truth is my favorite game before this one was Skyrim. The reason why "Open World Sandbox".  I believe Bioware wants that market as well. They have the final call on this. I may or may not be interested in buying their future product if it doesn't fix what I'm looking for. 

 

I do love this game and think they did  an excellent job with it.

Nah. No one would react negatively if someone just said "I'm not interested in having sex-scenes or whatever in video games. It's not something I enjoy."

That's fine. Totally fine.

Negative reactions come, rightfully, when you start trying to make factual statements out of your preferences and go like "the sex in this video game is unnecessary or too excessive" or something similar.

Negative reactions come, rightfully, when you start trying to make factual statements out of your preferences and go like "the sex in this video game is unnecessary or too excessive" or something similar.


Both are expressing an opinion, however, and neither will influence the future design choices, after DA O, I'd hope not anyway. That's one of my issues with this thread in particular; the only opinion some posters are willing to allow is one that agrees with what they say, everyone else "needs to be educated" or "is a prude" and, when that can't work, they tell you exactly why you're disagreeing, even if they're dead wrong. When you show why they're dead wrong, suddenly that aspect of the conversation doesn't matter any more. So both extremes in this dialog have faults, because it is a video game, at the end of the day, and the content we got is worthy of the M rating, when we look at the whole, instead of just looking at Josie's romance arc and saying "see, no nudity, the game didn't need to be rated M after all".

There's a difference here, they're not the same. It's a different thing to say "x makes me feel that way, I like x, I dislike x" and another to say "x is unnecessary/wrong/good/needed/blue/etc". One is a statement about yourself in relation to x, the other is a statement about x itself. And while we can perfectly well take your word for the first case, after all you KNOW how you feel, for the latter, you have to prove your opinion. And if your opinion is "x thing in this fictional game is unncessary" you're going to have a hard time proving it.

There's a difference here, they're not the same. It's a different thing to say "x makes me feel that way, I like x, I dislike x" and another to say "x is unnecessary/wrong/good/needed/blue/etc". One is a statement about yourself in relation to x, the other is a statement about x itself. And while we can perfectly well take your word for the first case, after all you KNOW how you feel, for the latter, you have to prove your opinion. And if your opinion is "x thing in this fictional game is unncessary" you're going to have a hard time proving it.

 

But x is blue! All those other people with synesthesia are wrong, I tell you, wrong!

I don't mix it. Books and movies serve a different purpose. Books and movies are more passive. I already explained why I played. Before this games, Skyrim was my favorite. So it is ALL about why a person plays a game. 

 

The movies and books are all about does it fit into the story well. 

 

 

I like the dragon age story but that is not the main reason to play. To be perfectly honest, I download the conversation choices just to get past it. I really enjoy the open world and builds.

The main issue that I am seeing not in this thread but in the gaming communtiy in general is that things such as violence gets a free pass, but once some breast are flashed on screen then all of a sudden developers are turning games into porn.

Second, people are looking a nudity from a literal perspective. People want exact reasons why a pair of breast was briefly shown on screen. However nobody ask for what purpose a curse word serves, or why a character took a sip of alcohol. But breast shown must have a detailed reason for being there. The Witcher 3 freatures some over the top violence but nobody focuses on that. Instead TW3 is criticized for its nudity.

At the end of the day, western culture is becoming more liberal and perhaps 10 years from now, many games will feature nudity and it would not be as big of a deal as it is today.

Throughout history liberalism in terms of social stances has always overcame conservatism.

And here we are! That is the problem. BioWare games are and always were about something different...  And well writen characters, especially companions, building relationships, even romantic ones is what make BW games unique. They are the reason that one excuse some story... imperfections and always come back for another game. And that is the main reason why I play them and love their characters more than many people from everyday life... although I belong to those labeled by you as "married". 

 

If you are playing a game and you aren't "pulled in" than you are either playing wrong or have none fantasy or imagination or these games are simply not for you.

For example with Bioware why they assume players will play a character who swears and drinks thus make it mandatory. And I've said many times how games should have non-violent options for encounters. The series that do are often hailed for that. 

 

I hope you're wrong. Or at least to the point where it isn't a mandatory part of the experience. I'm already not a fan of some of the things most games make mandatory.

To be fair, in a few circumstances there were options for nonviolent means to resolve conflicts in DA:I. Perhaps with new hardware that allows them to do more they can become more creative.

Oh, I know. And I applaud Bioware for even that much. For example I love in WEWH how you can take down Florianne with words rather than combat.

Deus Ex is exactly what I thought of when you mentioned nonviolent interactions.

 

EDIT: I also thought the judgments were a great experiment in it. Especially if you had different perks or completed certain conditions because you could then choose unique ways to resolve the issues presented to you.

Does the inquisitor use profanity if you stick to diplomatic choices?  I can see it with funny or direct, but I think there's always something you can say that's not profane.  The inquisitor can choose not to drink, even with Bull.  You'll lose a little approval, but kill another dragon with him and he'll forget all about it.  The thing is, this is a triple A game, and there's going to be a lot of gritty stuff going on.  And, there's a warning about profanity, alcohol use, and sexual situations right on the cover, so you can't say you weren't warned.  I also think that way stuff is handled is a lot better than it was in DAO.  You get in a drinking contest and fall down and Oghren laughs vs. you celebrate killing a dragon with Bull and enjoy a bonding moment.

There is the problem. You play for a different reason. The key element here is "one size does not fit all".

You don't control this.

 

Bioware wants to expand their market. That is why they made it open world. An excellent time for them to pick up Elder Scroll customers. So there are no rules that say you must fall in love with characters. The package doesn't say you must have romance does it? It states player's choice.

 

So it is not a joke.

 

You make the characters real in your mind.

 

I see them as just characters AIs with a script, because that is what they are. As for the story, again it is excellent and well written.

Let's clear this up for your confused mind. Play the game the way you want to. There is no exact way to play it. It is a buyer's market. If you want to fall in love with an NPC do that. It is not required and that is key.

I know it must be hard to understand why a portion of the market requested a conversation/approval guide. You will just have to get over it.

I know plenty of people that like pure shooter games. Are they conservatives or do they just like shooter games?

It is, however, no different from saying "we need more nudity" is it. They are the same thing, people trying to force their world view on others. I don't care, one way or the other, and I have seen no compelling reason to jump on the bandwagon. The arguments presented would have held water in Origins, or DA 2, but here, not so much. They are wanting it because they want it, and they feel like because they want it, everyone else should too.
