Watchmen had a pretty long sex scene with Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Needless to say it was awkward as hell, especially when playing to the sound of Hallelujah. Bonus points for Archie's fiery ejaculate.

Those bonus points go to Moore or maybe Gibbons, since that part of it's right out of the comic. The rest is mostly Snyder. They didn't blow too many panels on the scene in the comic; IIRC the earlier failed scene takes up more space.

Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy has such a mini-game. I didn't realise what it was (thought it's a cutscene) until I picked up the action hint and watched the event (from a distance).   I've always wondered what happens if I flup it, does the girlfriend throw something at the protagonist? Say something or leaves in a huff.

These things in games and ideas for them always make me giggle.

Press Triangle to remove her dress.
Bang Square to pull some hair.
Tap Circle to yell O O Ohhh.
Pound X to finish that sex.

I do agree that for sex scenes ME3 Liara is a great template to follow.

I could do without the underwear, myself. ( I mean in the scene immediately after, not in the sex scene per se.) Depends on if we're going for basic cable, or HBO.

I read that he was incredibly annoyed at having to include a sex scene hence his decision to make it as ridiculous as possible.

Does anyone really care that there aren't any?

I agree. It is a game. I really don't need or care to have it in game. The WHY is because it is an AI not real.

Note that I have a huge bias here in that I think sex is disgusting when I say that's gross and I wouldn't want it. The only point is to have a brief, semi-meaningful cutscene that says "hey, your Inquisitor got laid." I want a video game, not pornography, thanks.

I thought, (atleast in ME, can't remember much for DA), sex scenes ARE optional in romance narrative. You can choose not to see mildly graphic sex scenes montage if you don't want to and there are many romance in-game that exist without a sex scene.

For me, this is a perfect love scene that are sexy and intimate without the actual sex. It fit in with the romance narrative between the characters. And it only last for a few seconds.

Spoiler

But no, its not necessary for a game to be fully interactive with its adult content.  Eroge exist for that sole reason. And no, its not necessary for Bioware to go full HBO's lewd territory with pointless sex scenes.

No, in Mass Effect sex scenes are a mandatory part of the romance.

Until DAI, Dragon Age was the same way. In DAI though they had a couple romances where the sex scenes were optional(like Dorian and Rainier) or never came up leaving the level of physical intimacy ambiguous(Josephine and Solas).

Uh... No. I've only once viewed a romance scene in DAO, I've skipped them on every playthrough since. One press, and the entire scene is skipped and you're automatically to the after-sex scene where everyone is clothed. On the PS3 version all you got to do is press square during it, and I can't even imagine that option ISN'T in the PC version.

No not in DA:O. In DA2 and DA:I, yes, but in DA:O if you say know you will lose approval but can continue the romance. Except probably not with Zevran or Morrigan.

I think a lot of folks got ninjamanced in ME1 and still retain the romance flag in ME2 even after they refused sex. In ME2 except for Miranda and Jack, the rest have fade-out scenes I think. In ME3, I don't think its possible to unromance someone after you lock-in romance so sometimes renegade dialogue in romance will just skip the romance sequence. (that citadel scene with Kaidan^ is a renegade line, the paragon line is the no-sex option)

In fairness, that person's opinion on sex could be fueled by any number of things unrelated to a puritan view point.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with the way it was handled.  The mature scenes are better than they've been yet.  Most of the LIs have something or another in their romance-cementing scene that's pretty suggestive of what's going on, if not blatant.  I can't answer for others, but the scenes are mostly steamy enough to make me feel like a bit of  a voyeur, even if they're not pixilated grinding.  For instance, if my partner's home, I go through party selection pretty quickly when I'm romancing Blackwall, because I don't want him to see his tarot card and feel jealous.  I'd say that's an effective use of a somewhat mature image, and there really isn't anything on his card you wouldn't see on the beach (I live in an area that requires bathing suits.)

I haven't tried the Sera romance yet, because I'm having so much fun with the others and I'm not ready to be doing crazy stuff that's going to annoy all my other companions, yet.  The only two romances I thought were a trifle underwhelming were Josephine's and, of course Solas'.  Josephine's romance is sweet and cute and charming and very satisfying to the person who craves a storybook romance, and it's nice having a LI available if your idea of romance is more about hearts and flowers and less about bumping nasties.  I'm sure Solas' is whatever it's supposed to be.  I just can't get into it, even though I get it.  His nature makes a physical relationship pretty complicated, if one exists at all.  When he bails after Cory dies, the inquisitor can hook up with him any time she wants through the simple expedient of taking a nap.  I just haven't created an inquisitor yet that thinks this sounds like a fair deal.  The one I romanced him with got the note after banishing Cory, then took a nap and told him to take a hike.  If someone wanted to be with her, they'd have to meet her halfway, and he wasn't willing to do half the driving.

Who knows, maybe they get laid enough at home that they don't need it in a video game?

Before you go hitting report post, crying to the mods, being stereotyped kinda sucks don't it. After all, the only reason one should be going on a rampage about not enough sex in a video game is because they're not getting laid, right?

The laughable part is that your poke at me here failed to illicit a response other than an amused smirk.

Here's the deal, it's a video game, not a porn. If you want porn, watch porn. If the situation in your home life prohibits watching it at home, go out and watch it. Game companies don't have to add it to keep a fanbase, and really shouldn't. People that disagree with your slightly demented need for porn in video games don't have to be prudish, or Puritans. I'm against it, and I spent a decade bouncing in strip clubs. I don't see the need to include it in games, at all. In this case, it was handled quite well. Sorry you couldn't get your rub off on, but hey, that's not what the game was advertised to be.

There was sexual content in the game? Uh..where?

I see more sexual content on regular T.V. then there was in this game.

It's like we can have our characters covered in blood and kill crap, but when it comes to sex people don't want to talk about and/or they see it as evil.

I also find it most amusing people get porn and love making confused. Hey if that person is having sex then its porn!

Eh, as I said in an earlier post in this topic, I don't really see why anyone would care if there wasn't any sexual content in the game.

Personally, for me, I don't really see the appeal of cartoon or animated characters getting naked and having sex. Sure there are anime or cartoons that have that but I never saw the appeal.

Its not about one wanting to watch pixelated sex, it is about adding a layer of realism to the game. I mean, videogame blood and gore is just as "funny" as videogame sex but it adds realism.

I guess it depends on the person. I am not looking for all outright sex scenes like a porno cause that will cause an AO rating which EA will not allow. However, something more like The Witcher 3 where sex is seen as something more casual (like it is today in real life) rather than the soap soap opera romance approach that Bioware takes. Nither developer is wrong, it is just interesting to see how how two developers attack sex/romance in their games.

Something tells me that had ME1 never got the negative "Fox News" attention it did, Bioware would probably have been somewhat like CDPR in terms to how...."explicit" their sex scenes are. However that wasnt the case so with ME3 we got fully clothed sex, ME3 we got underwear sex, and with DAI it is just above ME1.

So it would seem as if Bioware is opening up to more of CDPR approach to sex. It is interesting to see how ME4 handles it.

This is the argument that I was trying to make. People laugh at pixel sex and call it cartoony and immature but yet they say nothing about pixel blood/gore or pixel profanity.

I think that no matter how progressive western society becomes (especially Europe), sex will always be that uncomfortable topic that is only talked about behind closed doors.

As for porn vs love making (or just sex) you have another good point. I played TW3 and the sex scenes are NOT porn. Hell, we do not even see penetration. You see a scene or two that shows a vague but also clear representation of what is going on in terms of sexual position and what not. But it isn't like Gerult is going full out hardcore sex with visual penetration and the female doing excessive over the top moaning and the sort.

I can see your point but I guess it's just that I'm used to seeing more violence and what not in cartoons/anime than sex.  I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons like G.I Joe, Transformers, and Thundarr the Barbarian back in the day.  Heck, even Looney Tunes had some "violence" with Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian, and others.  I have also seen snippets and parts of anime with sex or nudity and it just seemed odd to me.  It has nothing to do with being "uncomfortable" or puritanical.  Another example, I can read A Song of Ice and Fire and watch Game of Thrones on TV but if the show were a cartoon and they showed the same amount of nudity and sex I just wouldn't be interested.

Oh, and I have played The Witcher games and plan on getting the third one, so I guess I should clarify my thoughts.  I might not really think sex in video games is "odd" but maybe unnecessary might be the better word?  I mean it's there in the Witcher games, obviously, but would it have made a huge difference if it weren't there?  I mean, would the games be totally different without it? Is that what appeals to people in those games?

I guess that's why I said earlier I don't see why anyone would care if a game didn't have sex or nudity unless that's the main draw of the game.

So if sex is unnecessary why isn't profanity? Why isn't blood and gore? This is our point. I can understand hardcore porn style sex with aggressive thrusting and over the top female moaning and the game camera showing actual penetration and have the scene go on like that for 5min straight with different pans/zooms/angles. YES, now THAT would be unnecessary and I am not advocating Bioware make their sex scenes like that. When you go play TW3 and look at their sex scenes, you'll see that they are tastefully done and is really no different then what you may have seen in DAI. It is just that in TW3 CDPR is willing to show just "a little" bit more in terms of the sex chemistry in action whereas DAI just shows two people kissing, then cutting away as if we are too immature handle anything else. Sort of like when you were 5 years old in the movie theater and your parents would cover your eyes when heavy kissing is happening and a sex scene is about to occur. Then when the sex is done and both parties are just laying in bed, your parents removes their hands.

I'll say it again, Bioware SEEMS to be moving more in the direction of CDPR style nudity in their games which I think is a good thing cause it gives the game more realism. ME1 was their experiment but went wrong. Then with ME2 everyone was fully clothed. In ME3 they took off their clothes but kept on their underwear. In DAI they took off their underwear but cut away after a kiss or two. I expect ME4 to be that game to really push the boundaries for Bioware.
