And another note, I'm not sure if this is still canon, but Lanaya said that the Dalish were descended from the elven noble houses that ruled the Dales. If so, it was only the elites that escaped and chose exile.

I think that is just something the Dalish tell themselves to better sleep at night.

Well they were right about Ameridan being one them and not human Orlesian noble. The clan emblems are supposed to be derived from the old noble family crests. Not to mention it makes sense, I could picture the nobles deciding they'd rather go off and pout in the woods as opposed to living in alienages and becoming a servant class.

Lol. I wonder how many actually chose that option? I just tell the truth given it's probably what he would have wanted and seemed pretty bro-tier.

That or the nobles of the Dales used the commoner elves as a bulwark so they could escape. They wouldn't be the only nobles to do that in Dragon Age.

Translation: Since I have no way of refuting what you posted in response to my repeated insistance that the codex entry proves that humans were the aggressors and the Chantry are elf-hating liars, I'll just call you a poopyhead and run away!
Pro-tip: you can totally amp up the passive-aggressive mockery if you point out that he's trying to stomp away with the last word... and then bring up that you totally called him on it if he tries to rebut that and get the last word (again).
It's the classiest way to deal with people who try end an argument by walking away after putting effort into a rebuttal.
But scatalogical humor is good too, dear.

Has flashbacks of Lob necro-ing one of the elven threads (multiple times!) trying to sneak the last word in.

That was a rather remarkable- all the more so because the counter-arguments didn't even address what they quoted despite having (literally) months to work on them.

Dean, my love, I am sorry that you had to witness my shame.
In the future, I will endeavor to live up to the fine example you have set for all of us.
For now though, I will be on my best behavior and try not to antagonize the elf-lovers. ![]()

Boots, boots, boots.
I don't call people stupid because they don't agree with me. I call people stupid if I'm convinced they lack intelligence or common sense based on how they disagree with me.
The same applies to alleged fellow-travelers who like to think I agree with them rather than the other way around, whom I mostly just ignore and don't talk to.

Honestly, for the demographic of elves I am concerned with ("not Dalish"), the matter of who did what at Red Crossing is immaterial... at least beyond the manner in which it may be used to justify further subjugation.
So, who cares.

Hey guys, did any one think the elves are a part of both the problem AND the solution? If you focus on them vs. the chantry or humans, or Tevinter, or how much more awesome they are than dwarves, or whatever, you completely miss the part where so far, all the solutions have involved using more than one approach to a problem. Try to get beyond who you can relate to the most easily, and look at what each race represents, and the bits of lore we know, and why it didn't work. Why wardens don't work is that while taking in the corruption allows them to fight and destroy the archdemon (probably,) they are vulnerable to mind control, through the taint in their blood. I'm not sure how Remille in The Calling was mind controlled, but neither do I think he was innocent of using prohibited magic. There must be a reason the Architect was able to manipulate him so easily, right? There's something going on with the elves and the Fade, but I don't know what. It has to do with Tevinter magisters having elven slaves and using blood magic, and the group's experience in the eluvian world in TME, and even Sera's experiencing "elfy" things even though she would rather anything else. I'm pretty sure the Qunari were an experiment that worked just fine against darkspawn, but for demons, not so much. They do get possessed, and having mages, they can access the Fade, but it questions their illusion of control. I think it's one of those things like not saying much because you value competence and trade speech is a second language. They probably don't print it on travel brochures. Dwarves tried to tough it out and are under continuous threat from darkspawn. I'm still trying to figure out if they can be possessed by demons, because of that demon that had possessed a king, but moved to Fiona in The Calling, and because Solas specifically mentions a dwarven memory in the Fade, and dwarves don't go there. Unless the memory was from a human who had found the ruined thaig in his story.
My point is that if you focus on elves or the Chantry, or Tevinter, or red templars, you miss the chance to think beyond what happens after Cory is neutralized.

Incursion in my language means military invasion against foreign territory.
While invasion means entering a place/territory without the owner/government permission (invasion and trespassing are the same in my language).
Now I see why others users debated about it.
So, to clarify, invasion (the word) can be used to mean trespass in a sense (e.g. "invasion of privacy"). It has an idiomatic meaning in that way, but that's because it evokes the literal meaning of invasion, which is the military action against a foreign territory (with the notion that it's state-sanctioned).

Indeed, I doubt Red Crossing had much to do with the elven's situation after the war. The fact that they invaded Orlais and nearly reached Val Rouyeaux is more relevant to the outcome.Honestly, for the demographic of elves I am concerned with ("not Dalish"), the matter of who did what at Red Crossing is immaterial... at least beyond the manner in which it may be used to justify further subjugation.
