Just would love to hear your thoughts about that statement.

Because I experienced that if you have a decent Crit Chance
you are able to spam Barrier all the time. At least way more often than the Keeper can.
("Knight-Protector" either does not work or does not do the trick)

And the attack spells are also better IMHO (especially Immolate after the buff),
and especially in conjunction with the passives that gives 20 mana when an enemy dies around and
the "no-cooldown-passive"

Until you get a Static Cage ring, probably.

but the elementalist is doing his bloody- and protective work non-stop.

I played both of them after Luke's change (Keeper with static cage) and did way better with the Elementalist. XP- and survivability- wise.

although the Keeper actually was my first choice. WAS

Yes but nope, remember that Elementalist have Single barrier, keeper have full barrier, i call full barrier to:

  • Barrier
  • Elegant Deffense
  • Strength of Spirit
  • Reinforced barrier
  • Rejuvenating Barrier
  • Knight-Protector

Rion only has:

  • Barrier
  • Elegant Deffense
  • Strength of Spirit

So its not the numbers of barriers you cast, its just the quality my friend!

Because Elementalist have Fire Storm FFS!

Don't go out the idea, we are comparing the support aspect of the two, they are total different cases. And as for XP keeper used to get more XP than practically everyone but was Nerfed.

From Luke's May 8th Update

Dragon Mage: Inquisition

We've made a lot of minor tweaks to mage abilities, focusing on increasing the strength of the lesser used abilities and slightly reducing the damage on the overused ones. We also slightly tuned down the amount of support XP that Barrier provides so that mages aren't dominating the leaderboards (as badly)

Rion is an arrogant little pro mage ****** and the Keeper (can't even remember her name) is an arrogant little oh woe is me knife ear.  Having said that....Both are great classes.  I prefer to play with a keeper in my group however because I detest firewall and fire storm.  I like playing both classes and as others have said 'static cage'

Sure i agree, but as an Elementalist Fanatic and Pyromaniac at Heart, i would prefer to use that barrier slot for more fire spells, dunno..... i used to get barrier to help the team but... F*** the team, my FUN its fist!

Let's not forget wonderful passives such as Mana Surge, disturbance of spirit, restorative veil and other weakened passives if you are so inclined.  Dispel is also a great way to debuff enemies and remove status effects from teammates.  Both classes have their merits, the keeper just does a better job of supporting the team IMO.

Elementalist is great not because of barrier but because of fire wall.

Elementalist is still a great class without barrier. What's a keeper without barrier though?

I actually agree with you OP.  Keeper is incredible with support, and static cage is a great ability.  However, for a balance of pure damage+support, I also find the Elementalist works well for me.

Has anyone else dropped Firewall for other skills?  I run Barrier, Immolate, Stonefist and Firestorm.  For most of the match, I use the first three skills and Firestorm for the end or with larger crowds.  Enemies not passing through Firewall or the team moving to the other side of it made seem less effective.  I believe (don't quote me) Stonefist and Immolate do more damage and have faster cool downs.  Plus, with Death Siphon constantly refilling mana, I'm rarely short when I need to cast.

I go barrier, immolate, winters grasp and frost step.  That is almost always the way I spec him though I do want to add Energy Barrage since it just got a buff.  Have to decide which to get rid of in favour of that.

ele all the way. So many different and great options. I've been running energy barrage, fire mine, immolate, barrier. All do great damage. Love fire mining and taking out the archer's nest in wave 4 on FC, or stalkers with a mine under my feet. One shot city with chaotic focus. Barrage does good damage too especially on dragons and its a good option to have for fire dragons. The real stars are flashpoint and chaotic focus.

Back to topic, I appreciate the keeper but having flashpoint gives ele more timely barriers.

I like this build: Barrier, Immolate, Stonefist and Wall of Fire.  For sure, you do have to place WoF in the right spots for effectiveness, and sometimes I just drop it on myself and stand in it.  Haven't tried immolate since it was buffed so interested to see how it works now.

~Pulls a Kanye right here~ Yo' Elementalist I'm going to let you finish, but Virtuoso is the best Keeper stand-in ever.

Have you seen the crazy levels of stuff that guy gets in Barriers?

He's got a variant barrier that does take him time to get you maxed out, but he does get the bonus +50%  from one passive, and gets the +35% decay from another. He has another song that allows him to increase armor for anyone in his range as well as decrease the armor of his enemies if you pay the point into it. He's the only caster with real healing (if it actually works). He also can be specced to gain mana back from: Basic attacks, allies in proximity and enemies in proximity. Also, don't forget that amazing 10% damage reduction that he stole from the Single Player Templar spec, and he's got the power that heals all his allies to 100% if he ever actually goes down.

The way i play keeper and ele might just lend itself to disagree.

With the keeper i generally never have barrier off CD around when it expires, so I don't really see an issue with uptime. If people are together i can maintain 100% barrier uptime if i need.

On the ele if i waste a flashpoint on barrier i get mad. Thats me missing out on a double firestorm or firewall. And i tend to only barrier myself for extra damage. I know, selfish.
