So according to Gaider, Inquisition spans a time period of around 3 years.

I wonder how much of the 3 years is spent in going from your remote mountain fortress to Val Royeaux, and back again, that time you took Cole there for dinner?

For me, probably the lamest story element in the whole series to date. It's a little thing, but for me anyway it's like a message from the devs: Hey, we don't take this story seriously! You shouldn't either!

Or alternatively: Hey, we're the kind of adults who read comic books and watch kids cartoons on TV! What are you doing paying any attention to our stuff??

I suppose regardless of whether it takes 3 years, if you add up all that travel time, the Inquisitor barely spends any time at Skyhold. It's a weird disconnect because you feel like you spend a lot of time there ingame (and really sucks for the advisor romances).

It seemed to me while playing that I spent next to no time in Skyhold, it's always a personal feel thing though. It's like pop in, set some war table ops up, go talk to a few companions and race off to the other side of Thedas.

Well maybe by that late in the game they found an exit point from the Crossroads to Orlais, making it a trip that took a day or 2 instead of weeks or months.

On account of all the fetch quests and the job as inquisitorial postman.

Yeah, it really depends how you play and what that feels like. I tended to spend too much time crafting and selling things every time I went back in addition to talking to everyone and doing War Table ops. Plus, I didn't like to spend too long out, because it'd get repetitive.

What? no way it felt like a year and a bit.

Maybe 2 but differently not 3 years.

Moving across vast distances on foot (or horse) takes a lot of time.

3 years is entirely plausible. It would have to be at least 2, I think.

I always thought DAO took place over 2 years, as well.

I was waiting for a comment like this eariler today lol

No bug warships or Mass Relay folks, Moving between countries on horseback takes time. 3 yrs seems legit

@badkenbad no need to apologize, I don't blame you for doubting things. Not in this day and age. I thought most people saw and/or followed his Twitter even if it was just on here in the thread.  :)

Do you even math? Only I have such big problem Bioware don't know how to count. Lead writer don't even know timeline of his story, I can't even comprehend it. Anders is in awakening and DA2 at the same time. Really you can do some plot holes but this is unforgivable.make some time line paper.

It's a matter of playstyle for sure. Only on rare occasions do I actually leave the game on some other map and prefer to leave my Inquisitor hanging in Skyhold. I tend to feel that I spend 1-2 weeks there at a time in between these long treks. They don't address it very much during the game, but the Inquisitor will have various duties, as well as the unfortunate (depending on the player) necessity of being the face of the Inquisition; being present, meeting people, and schmoozing is all a part of it, whether they like it or not.

Sadly the wiki offers no official reference for the year stated on that page, or anywhere else they've got it posted, which makes me wonder whether it was simply a community guess. Since the wiki's information is community established I'd personally prefer a more official statement for the info. I want to believe it is correct but can't find any other non-wiki reference to this.

Oh, but it does! Right here: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Divine

Justinia V: Elected in 9:34 Dragon.[10] Died in 9:41 Dragon.
Victoria: Elected in 9:41 Dragon.

Sorry, but Wiki clearly says "DAI plot took one year"

Evidently some folks are taking my 'DAI took three years' thing VERY seriously. Like, seriouscat serious.

David Gaider @davidgaider  ·  8h 8 hours ago

DAI did not take three years. The Hinterlands...now THAT took three years. Like, at *least*.

__

We have our answer, He won't say how long DAI in-game time takes canonically but says his answer was for how long it took the Devs to make it.

I think I finally figured out DG's cunning plan! He is so tired of fans taking every word from his mouth as a sacred knowledge, he decided to troll comunity to the degree that no one takes anything he says seriously anymore. Smart move!

This actually would indicate that it was within a year, since it's the same year. I rather doubt that it was exactly a year, so anything other than that would be "less than," which seems unlikely given the events of the game in addition to travel time. While three years seemed too long, less than a year seems too short.

Unfortunately, the wiki does not list a source for the election year -- for comparison, a game dialog is used as a reference in one of the footnotes: [16] Mentioned in dialogue between Sebastian Vael and Merrill in Dragon Age II.

I never knew what Gaider was like as a person, so I was unprepared for any kind of sarcastic response.

Thanks for posting these, it's good to know going into the future.

Did people read his tweet?

He gave a vague answer : "I dunno.Three years or so?" .

The devs will probably figure out how much time Inquisition took when they get serious about the next game.

If it means not being treated like an on-call source of encyclopedic information, to be used in the settling of all headcanons and fandom disputes inside 140 characters max, I'm all for it.

Insofar as this goes, even if you thought I was talking about in-game time, I would have thought the "I dunno" part of it should have made it apparent I wasn't making an edict.

Gaider was summoned.

But to those thinking everyone uses twitter these days: I find the tweets out by checking the no-spoilers section twitter thread.. .. I don't have a twitter account, and no-one I actually know does either. That's a lot of people, so don't assume everyone does just because one person might. no this is not directed at anyone specific, just in general since I hear the assumption a lot, from a ton of different people in a lot of different ways.

... I wonder if this is a good time to ask how many people played the various non-human races in DAI?

(Don't mind me, I'm just regretting not sending in an interview question last week. Now that we know the human percentage was about the same as DAO, I'm curious to know if the qunari PCs cut into the percentage of elves, the percentage of dwarves, or both.If you actually read this, Mr. Gaider, please feel free to answer sarcastically. I may not be enlightened, but at least I'll be entertained.)

Haha yeah, I have that obsession too. 90% of the time, I travel back to Skyhold and start War Table ops before saving. Maybe it would have been cool if we saw more of those Inquisitor duties. We see judgements (which are awesome), but that's about it.

Ok I didn't participate in this discussion earlier but I'm confused now. It took about 3 years to make Hinderlands, not the time frame DA:I took part in right?

lol I thought you meant the story we experience in-game took about 3 years. And no I wasn't taking you super seriously like some people around here but now I'm curious!
