[INCOMING TRANSMISSION. . . . . .  RECIVED]

FROM: CITADEL COUNCILOR STEVEN HACKETT

TO: ALL SHIPS LEAVING TO HELIOS CLUSTER

Twenty years had passed since the fight with the Reapers. The resulting two decades had caused more technological advancement for humanity and aliens-alike since the first discovery of the prothean beacons. Thus far the Geth had remained loyal to Quarians, cohabitating peacefully as the Krogans, Salarians, and Turians did with one another.

Commander Shepard's heroics twenty years previous had united all remaining races to combat the Reapers. Many were lost and while a happy ending was no longer a viable option, the one silver lining was their will to survive -- [a final jab, a needle in spite of] the Reapers. It was almost a point of pride for all remaining.

The specifics of Shepard’s mission were minimal, only a trusted few had access to the mission details, leaving storytellers and children to speculate on the sordid details. When Commander Shepard had eventually been discovered, it was surmised that due only to the reaper technology (and varying stages of indoctrination) that she’d even still been living, the final stages of death fast approaching. Six months of isolation to heal, reverse the process, and prevent contamination found her finally debriefing about the events of the crucible.

Shepard explained the choices she’d been given and what she’d bore witness to. She’d chosen to destroy the Reapers, accepting all the consequences that path had entailed. FTL travel had been disabled for several months and the remaining Reaper forces were decimated, the few scraggling components left behind taken for study. Despite their demise, the indoctrination psionics remained active, still attempting to bend others to their whims despite how futile the gesture was. There were anomalies, of course, such as the rogue VI claiming to be the embodiment of Reaper consciousness as well as the technology that had inadvertently kept Shepard alive during her fall.

As the years ticked by, Shepard and her lover, a well known biotic instructor for Grissom Academy, were subject to frequent medical and psych evaluations. Jack had been officially declared unable to serve on active duty even if another war occurred while being “graciously” allowed to continue her professorship.

Ten years after the events of the crucible, Shepard was officially recognized as free of corruption, all signs of indoctrination cleared and put to rest. She returned to the Alliance as an Admiral with Jack as her “personal assistant”, capable of incapacitating Shepard should the need ever arise.

Recent reports of Alliance R&D had been witness to the profit of years worth of research, revealing the possibility of FTL travel beyond Deep Space. With these reports we can expect others know this as well, and may have already sent squads and scavengers to the Helios Cluster of our sister galaxy of the Andromeda Galaxy.

Though, through co-operation I hope we can colonize peacefully and without hostilities. But if you stray you will be brought to justice one way, or another in any case I wish you all good luck and godspeed.

          Hackett Out.

"Marci!"

"Yyyyeeah?"

"How many times do I have to call your name?!"

Marcelina Rey's peer was another Captain, by the name of Allistair.  While the same rank, Allistair had been put in charge by the Major while he was gone, and Marci didn't much like the idea of being told what to do by a Sentinel who was no more knowledgeable than she.  If the roles had been reversed, Allistair wouldn't have listened to Marci much either.

Allistair entered the small room where Marci was typing away on a terminal, surfing the extranet.  "I've been trying to tell you, there's a set of orders that came in for you.  Don't you even care?"

With a look up in surprise, Marci replied, "Of course I care.  That's the first thing that's happened around here in two months that hasn't made me bored."

"Check your mail once in a while, and you might find it before I end up reading the Cc on it."

Marci opened up her mail on the screen and began reading.  As she did, the look of surprised became more emphasized.  "I guess I'm not sticking around here much longer, Allistair.  Someone's shipping me out."

Upon opening the mail a call seemed ring from her Omni-tool it had no caller ID But it had the N7 and Alliance Logos on the screen. Little would she know she was getting a direct call from the legendary Shepard herself.

"Huh," Marcie stated, curiously.

"Yeah, listen," Allistair said, not paying much attention to what Marci was viewing, "We're short on staff so we're pitching in with some oversight on the NCO's tasks.  I'm sending you half the list so don't dawdle on your special message over there."

"Right."

Allistair headed out the door.

Marci sat in her chair, staring at the screen.  Then she sat back and fidgeted with the collar on her uniform.  The screen went black for a second, then a white and olive green volus went two frame dancing across her view.  Frustrated, Marci stabbed down with a finger onto her hard light keyboard, until the screen came back to normal.

"Damnit, I hate that screen saver!"

Marci's omni tool rung again (sorry for no clarification ) as this time it had Commander Shepards Collar ID.

Yori on the other hand was making it through an alliance office building trying to find a certain office.

A vid feed popped up on her omnitool "Ahem.. Ms. Marcilena Rey I presume?" Shepard made a slight chuckle, "From the look on your face I guess I could say you know who I am dont you Ms Rey?"  Shepard went through some Papers in front of her and shuffled through them as she spoke "I suspect you read the Message from  Councilor Hackette, Yes? I Came to inform you that you will be Transferred Effective Immediately to the  SSV Andromeda SR1, as the Captain of the ship and its crew." She turned back to the screen "And I have your second in command on her way to Relieve you of your Current duties and Move you into the Andromeda.

Right out side the office Yori could be seen through the windows and was looking around.

"And from what i can see, She is On your floor now~ I will meet you at the Andromeda for a personal Debrief Till then, Shepard out"

With her teeth clenched together, Marci pulled back her lips in a sort of strange undetermined snarl.

Probably she should be jumping for joy.

"Thank you Admiral Shepard?"

Marci was trained, she was.  She'd even been put in charge as an acting captain on two frigates before, because of logistical screw ups on the part of typical bureaucracy.  Now she was going to report for command of a ship.

Holy SHNOLZ!

Jolting upright, Marci panicked and immediately decided she needed to stop screwing around.  Whatever that meant because she couldn't remember the last time she'd broke out and...oh yeah, it was two weekends ago.  I had to stay on duty this past one.  That's like a lifetime, anyway, isn't it?...

Then the part of somebody on their way hit Marci.

"This place is a mess!"  Marci grabbed her coffee mug and threw the whole thing in the trash.

There.

Yori entered the room with an enthusiastic greeting "Yoooo! You the Marci Chick right?" She made a salute, "I am Yori Kamiyama! your Second incommand on the Andromeda. I take it you Got the message from Shep- .... Why is their Coffee in your Trash can...?" she looks up at Marcy confused

Marci quick snapped a salute, and said, "At ease."  Of course, Yori was already at ease, which was good, because Marci wasn't sure she was ready for anything but, yet.  She peered at the coffee in the trash can.  "The uh, must have totally slipped off my desk.  No time for an extraction.  We've gotta move, soldier."

It wasn't entirely clear what Marci was saying, but she was a bit embarrassed by getting caught with the coffee maneuver, so her strategy was confusion.  She walked by Yori, expecting her to come along.  "We have to report to the Andromeda, supposedly immediately.  Which is...where is it docked, again?"

"Dockin bay 46, and I am also to help Get your stuff to move in. Because they dont want you going to the new galaxy in JUST that." she gestured to all over her new captain, "Now why dont we stop by your apartment and get the stuff you need?"

"Right."  Marci looked down at herself, then grimaced briefly.  "I see you're good at what you do.  So...let's go ahead.  I'm the third block down, and...never mind, let's go."

It took about five minutes to walk to Marci's place.  When she opened the door, there was a loud, crash, then silence.

"Um, probably a plate."

Marci went in first, leaving the door open.  There was a VR video game headset left on, along with a wide screen display with the weather streamed on it in giant font.  The couch most used looked like it was second hand, from several years ago, and then there was a brand new chair next to it that appeared never to have been sat in.  The place was a single dwelling, a benefit of Marci's rank, but it was nearly a studio, with a counter separating the kitchen area, and two doors on the far wall.  One was half open, revealing a clean bathroom, crowded with knick knacks.  The other led to a closet, begging the question of where exactly did Marci sleep?

Hopping over several loose items on the floor, like datapads with memos, and a pillowcase with no pillow, Marci went to the closet and turned on the light inside.  She fumbled up on a high shelf for some sort of suitcase, which fell off the shelf before she found it.  Then she started throwing things into it.  She seemed to stick to clothes that were folded, but didn't care if they stayed neat when thrown in.  The she started going through a list in her head:

Pants
Casual shirts
Jacket
Lame pair of socks
Many more pairs of warm, non-regulation cotton socks
Running shoes
Shoes I have no idea where I got them from.

Then, Marci dragged the case to the kitchen and continued:

Protein bars that are kind of tasty
Datapad with stuff I meant to read
Stuffy important manual
Um, gun I should have checked into the armory
The armory key so I can get my gear
Oh, almost forgot!  My spare key to drop off while I'm gone
Money...well, there's none of that here
And something for a headache.

Rifling through her refrigerator at that point, Marci said, "I really mostly order takeout so there's no food to worry about dumping.  Except for this...yuck!"  She pulled something out and threw it in the trash.  Looking at the trash, she then reached in and grabbed a coffee mug, quickly throwing it in the washer as the only dinner ware in there and turning it on.  The garbage back was then wrapped up and run to the incinerator drop just outside her pad, before she ran back in and finished stuffing her suitcase.

When she was finally done, Marci picked up her nearly exploding suitcase and a datapad.  "All right, good to go!  They should ship my armor, weapons and gear to the ship from the armory if we call them on the way."

"Yep! Along with any furniture you wish to take with you. I mean the captains cabin is Like... Bigger than this place." She exaggerated the size with her hands enthusiastically, "And Hell, at least i can get my own personal cabin for once, Well most of the XOs will be anyway" She took the Suit case from her newly appointed captain carrying it for her with her Cybernetic arm. "I will call my cab and I can take us to the Ship shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get there from here."

She pulled up her omni tool and began hailing her cab. It rose and hovered over to a loading pad with the hatch opening. "Alright Cap, Hop in and I will take you to Paradise" she snugged her self in the Drivers seat putting Marci's luggage in the back seat.

Marci hopped in as instructed.  "Fine, I'm sending someone back to get that couch.  I love that thing!

When the skycar got under way, Marci asked, "So, Yori, nice to meet you.  Anything I should know about you, right off the bat?"

Yori couldnt help but giggle as she flew away in the sky cab speeding while easily dodging other sky cars. She had a large grin on her face almost like she hasnt had this much fun in a long while.

Not long after She pulled up to the docking bay for the Andromeda, she was about twice the size of a Alliance Frigiate but had the the armor of a dreadnought. "A Beauty aint she Cap?"

Marci was stunned before she stepped out of the car.  Then when she did, she stood by the car, just taking in the ship.

"This is way above my pay grade."

At least that's how Marci felt.  The ship was a dream come true.  She didn't quite understand why she was being given the vessel, and chalked it up to something bad happening.  In fact, Marci was pretty sure it was a temporary assignment.

"Well!  Let's make the most of it while it lasts!  I suppose I should go meet people aboard, do an inspection, make a big heart warming speech...who am I kidding?  I don't even know what that thing can do first!  Let's go find out."

"Heh.. They didnt tell you did they? This is a permanent placement. At least for us at least." she shrugged "Oh! I will show you to your cabin come on!" she grabbed Marci's suit case and went on ahead "come Oooonn!!"

Marci felt numb when Yori assured her that her assignment was anything but temporary.  When she watched Yori pull away, she had to stop herself from stumbling while she followed.

"SSsssuuurrrrree," Marci slurred a reply.  "guuunnna just let that one sink innnn..."

Yori couldnt help but chuckle.

It only took a few minutes to reach the Cabins. "As i mentoned earlier for us It is a Permanent job placement but the lower crew members will be switched out Every couple of months or years depending on their position. But as for us like you and I for example we will remain in charge of the Duration of our Service. If that is understandable"

"Yes."  Marci said, still with a degree of uncertainty in her voice.  "It's going to take a bit of time getting used to."

When Marci saw her cabin, it left her still in shock at the size given the available space on the ship.  And then there was the decor, far more elaborate than any military quarters she'd ever been assigned to, even nicer than her apartment.  Stepping in, she scratched her head.  "They have room for something this big?  Where does a person like you stay?"

"Well compared to the old Stories and blue prints of the Normandy This is 2 if not 4 Times Bigger Than the Normandy." She shrugged " And with such more available space It fit quite well with their plans for those who will stay put on the ship, So for us We will be on the same floor as you, Though being the captain of the ship you do Have a bigger space by default."

There was a quick frown on Marci's face, as if she wasn't thrilled about the normal hierarchy structure.  But it didn't surprise her.  She did say, however, "Hmmm, I usually like my company and if I'm locked up in a room on my off time, there isn't much chance I'll get to socialize.  Still, it is nice.  Really, really nice...."  With a glance to Yori, she shrugged her shoulders.  "Where to, next?"

"Well, theirs the mess hall, the armory, the AI suite, engineering, Cargo, the flight deck and the Guns I expeccially installed my self for short to mid range combat if nessisarry" she listed off most of the locations she knew of.

"You installed the guns?"

Marci didn't know Yori long, but it didn't take long to understand she was excellent at what she did.  Marci grinned.

"This ship's gonna kick ass..."

Then Marci looked around in the air.  "We have an AI?  Oh, what's it called?!"  Presuming that there was a voice activated interface everywhere on the ship, Marci called out.  "AI?  Are you there?  What should I call you?  Andromeda? I, Robot?  Cupcake?"

Interrupting her own thought, Marci excitedly added, "You know, Admiral Shepard herself called me and spoke to me for at least fifteen seconds!  I heard when she was first assigned command of the Normandy SR-1, she made a big speech to all the crew.  That could have possibly come after she wandered around and met everyone aboard.  But that's besides the point.  You think we should go up to the bridge and make some sort of inspiring speech?"

Yori couldnt help but chuckle "Hehe Its not like EDi in the SR-2 She cant talk yet since she is still in the proccess of working out the kinks. She is going to be one of my long term projects. AAAAAAAAnnnnnd Admiral Shepard hired me specifically for my experiecne as a pilot along with my technological expertise, in teh fleeeshsshh" She giggled holding her self back "I even went out for drinks with Shepard and her wife Jack It was fun... But i got one nasty hang over..."
