Shooting Configuration; Default or Default swapped?

On the X360 Default shoulder buttons setup is L2 is for scoping & R2 is for shooting, the rest for powers. While on PS3 the Default is L1 for scoping and R1 for shooting.

At first when I went to PS3 I swapped it to X360 style, but on the PS3 L1 & R1 buttons are harder for rapid firing tapping weapons a la Mattock then on X360 (regardless, even on X360 the top L1 & R1 buttons are still better for tapping too). So I've switched on PS3 to it Dafault setup for now just to see how it works out? So I'm still mixing things up every now and then (usually with the scope button for now, but before I would also pull my rocket out in a panic surrounded by enemies only to keep spamming the power button instead of the rocket button).

The best thing about L1 & R1 being the main focus for weapons buttons is that the gamepad sits more comfortably in you hands.

One issue on PS3 via my PS4 gamepad having the powers to default, is that pressing either L2 or R2 usually don't register the odd time, like I'm not pressing the button fast enough or lag (hard to tell right now, but guessing the first because I don't recall this issue before).

I also wonder why BioWare made the default different for PS3 then X360? Is it because it's harder to rapid tap L2 & R2 buttons on PS3 then X360? Or because this is usually how its handled on PS3 as I've noticed (and if so, how did this trend start?)?

I use the default configuration on XBOX. Swapping it would feel weird because the RT is clearly a trigger! and RB is not.

However on a related note, I've always wanted to train myself to hold the XBOX controller in 'claw' mode so I could have my index finger on RB and my pinkie (or something) on RT -- that way you can play a character with an active power on RB without giving up the ability to shoot your weapon with RT.

But it's so painful, literally painful, that I can't do it.

PS3 control feels better. Tapping with R2 to fire feels retarded.

Yet a lot of top XBOX PvP players (like for Halo or whatever) use the claw grip. Supposedly once you get used to it you... are more leet or something?

It's not as bad on the X360 VS the PS3/PS4 trigger buttons. This is my original reason to assume why it's swapped on the PS3.

Believe it or not, ages and ages ago, I used to play Southpaw Inverted. (Move with Right Stick, Aim with Left, pushing up aims down and vice-versa) I was used to games like Turok 64, where you moved with the C buttons, and even used the Goldeneye controls that allowed this as well (giving me a significant edge since I did not need to stop to aim like most people; I just aimed freely with the left stick.) When double thumbsticks became a thing, I just couldn't get the hang of more "standard" control schemes. Once my friends noticed "Southpaw" in the options screen for halo, I was golden...

...

... until a lot of games didn't have those controls. GUN was the game I finally adapted to normal controls on, and honestly, I spent so long in that game just doing stupid crap (scalping random people going to the bank to start a town-wide shootout, etc) I actually got better at standard, non-inverted controls than I ever was with Southpaw.

I'm beginning to be curious as to why you hate consoles so much that you react automatically with this kind of response.

However, setting that aside, even on Xbox there is a choice of control schemes, including using the PS3 trigger/button layout.

Same controls on Perfect Dark (the N64 version, not the XBOX 360 abomination). You could actually get incredibly precise aiming on those N64 games, given the pixel limits of course.

The Perfect Dark control scheme also allowed you to lean around corners -- without being snapped to cover -- something that most modern shooters don't allow. Kind of like on-demand RHA (or LHA!) as long as you had an obstacle in front of you.
