You do know that I was joking, don't you?
Yes.
You do know that I was joking, don't you?
Yes.
Okay... Let's see... I'll go with the character I've played most times, so...
1) Male
2) Vanguard
3) Kaidan
4) James
5) Kaidan, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jack and Samara
6) Paragon
7) Caucasian
8) Shotgun
9) Control (Is the MEHEM actually playable? I know it was being worked on, but other than that...)
10) Colonist and Survivor
11) Female
12) ME1 system (as much as I realise that it's outdated. XD)
13) I'd go with the character that appealed to me the most - as long as said characters were romanceable.
14) Selectable background
15) If they seem to work, yes. Otherwise, I'll just hope the character creator is like DA:I's... or even better.
1. Female
2. Engineer (ME3 variety)
3. Tali
4. Kasumi
5. Garrus, Wrex, Mordin, EDI, Legion
6. Paragade
7. White
8. Assault Rifle (M7/M8)
9. Destroy (non-mod) / MEHEM
10. Spacer/War Hero
11. Female
12. ME3 (or improved variation of ME3) but with cool interrupts we got in ME2
13. A-Will romance any depending… B-Human Female C-New Alien Type (Female)
14. Same system as Shepard (rather not waste the resources on backstory)
15. Yes, if looks good and/or cannot make a good one with custom creator
im pretty sure other isnt an option for gender
I know, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to allow room for people's headcanon on that one. Same with the ending choice, MEHEM is an option despite being a mod. I figure a flexibility in the poll choices wouldn't hurt. ![]()
9) Control (Is the MEHEM actually playable? I know it was being worked on, but other than that...)
Yep, as far as I'm aware. I'm a console player, so I haven't used it myself, but I got the impression that a lot of people utilise the mod. It's currently rated second place in the poll, so I think it's available.
You're not going to get much of a sample.
Pfft. I no scope fools without even looking at that distance. Though if enemies are getting that close to you, you're doing it wrong. If I want them to feel like they've got a chance I use the Arc Pistol. Which I can still "snipe" with.
Size isn't everything. Smiting anyone at any time without causing needless damage is more impressive than just levelling the entire area. Though it's a bit silly comparing man portable weaponry to artillery. On the scale you're talking about I'd have to go with the logical extrapolation of sniping, namely killsats. If we don't have them yet, we should get them.
Meanwhile, I'm actually killing fools by the dozens at once and clearing and advancing to my objective without trying to sit and look pretty.
I think you've been watching too many movies. On the battlefield, that's more or less false. I won't laugh. But I will. Armchairs are the best. Forgive me if I don't take you seriously here man. Size is everything. Frankly and bluntly put. Most every sniper you'd ever meet would tell you that. Why poke the hornet's nest when you can knock it with fire? War's not about the art, it's about the war. Impressive is killing the enemy and making sure he's all gone, not being pretty and fancy with one shot, one kill (which is very inefficient by the way. Artillery is all about one shot, a anything and everything within a 200 meter radius kill.)The only time your case rings true these days is when we have friendly forces in the region to prevent a blue on blue scenario, or if you have no ass available (be it already engaged or on a mission where there is no artillery to fire). And it depends on your threshold for needless damage. Trust me, I can put a shell onto a target across the street from a school and have the kiddies out playing and still knock the building down without any kiddies getting hurt.
In truth, the modern sniper is a specialized tool that is suitable for a handful of tasks that aren't likely to crop up in the everyday battlefield scenario. Snipers can't smite anyone at any time. You have to put them into position (risking somebody to get them there). You have to hold them in position. You have to keep contact with them. You have to ensure there's a way out for them. You have to risk more people to get them out. The concept of the sniper is technically obsolete. You have your opportune sniper, the one who sets up in a hot zone and takes targets of opportunity. It's dangerous and often leaves your sniper exposed. Then you have your hunter, which is the stalker who actively hunts, shadows, and eliminates his target. You're sending a 4 man sniper team into a hostile territory with the objective of eliminating an HVT. And you're putting them up against an HVT that likely has a very large amount of supporting forces. Opfor, if they aren't completely retarded, will be patrolling an area heavily when any HVT is in an area (or if they know the first thing about patrol lanes). You can't just hide or rely on stealth either. Even a green will be able to tell from what direction a bullet came from, and then you just throw bodies in that direction until you find the guy. That's what happened to Marcus Luttrell's sniper team during Operation Redwings (It's in the movie 'Lone Survivor'). Then again, their orders were to confirm the presence of an HVT, shadow said HVT, then get Apache's to blow them all to hell.
We do. There called MLRS. HIMARS.
There's a reason the Artillery is known as the 20 mile Snipers. With HIMARS, that range is extended nearly eightfold. King of Battle. Nothing about Snipers. Infantry's the Queen of Battle.
The King puts it where the Queen wants it. All that said and done, on the battlefield, the King reigns supreme. I'm telling you all of this as a former Fister (Forward Observer, aka scout for the Artillery) and Intel wizard who works closely with the more specialized variants of the Infantry corps to promote a mission. More often than not, its the sniper calling for artillery because he knows that **** will only go down bad if he takes the shot.
You're not going to get much of a sample.
True, but it isn't supposed to be scientifically accurate.
Wow, that's all you can do? Shotguns have better dps and better damage per shot, they also have pellets which means they can OHK anything less than a boss unit while your pathetic sniper can't get past the shield gate.

Who's sitting? I prefer a nice clear hallway to stroll through. Well, clear of enemies anyway. Brain matter is all over the place.
Forgive me if I don't take you seriously here man.

Interesting to see an almost straight gender split. It seems that way when I'm interacting here too. This board is very different from the playerbase as a whole.
Damn shame that Thane and Jack are some of the least played romances. I think they're some of the coolest characters.
21 votes for MEHEM. I wonder what those folks would pick if that wasn't a choice?
I see destroy is the most popular ending by a large margin. Excellent

I was going to make a joke about how Nickelback is a popular band..... and that popularity isn't necessarily a good thing. ![]()
But then, some things deserve to be popular. Destroy is one of them.

I was a MEHEM voter, as you well know Mike. I would opt for Destroy next, but on second thought.... nah. MEHEM or the highway. Those endings ended my tenure as a fan.

I see someone picked Refuse. Interesting ![]()
Also, surprised to see Infiltrator winning in the class poll. I expected Soldier to lead with a large margin but it seems BSN prefers a more refined approach
P.S. No love for Engineer ![]()

That just shows how unhelpful polling BSN is. That is, if the OP is trying to get a sense of the whole playerbase this way. Infiltrators are cool, but every class gets dwarfed by Soldier in their player upload data.

It can be helpful. Not for getting the general feedback, but comparing these results to the ones from the general public, they can deduce what elements need to be explored further. In the class case, three of the caster classes are at the bottom of the list. If the results are the same for the general public it'll mean that caster classes are not as appealing as combat-oriented classes. Solution can be making caster classes more combat-oriented which ME3 kinda tried

Adept is destined to not be as popular. Most people gravitate towards soldiers and stuff like that....probably for worldview/cultural and other inexplicable reasons. There's nothing you can do to really change that. It's more about psychology than a fault of class design. I say let the chips fall where they may. Just design a good biotic class and appreciate the fans that do like it. Instead of trying to appeal to someone who doesn't care.

Adept and Engineer are basically mages. A lot of people like playing mages but it seems not to be the case in ME. Why? If you spend months perfecting and balancing Engineer gameplay, won't you get at least a little annoyed if everyone picks Soldier instead? Wouldn't you want to do something about it? ![]()

Because fantasy crowds and military/sci-fi don't overlap that much. There's a lot of Bioware specific fans who are open to both, but others come to a series like this from a different mindset. I don't think you can do much about it.

I chose soldier since that's what my main Shepard is.
I have played engineer several times and find it to be the most fun
I've played as an adept many times. I've done a few playthroughs not using my weapon at all unless the game demands it.
Infiltrator and Vanguard I've played a few times, but Sentinel, I've never completed a playthrough as one.

The basic concept is the same. Casting powers versus shooting bad guys (poking them with a sword). Magic vs steel. That's what causes the split of the players, not it being fantasy or sci-fi IMO.

I like the Soldier myself, Vanguard and Infiltrator maybe second. I like Adepts in multiplayer though. edit: Maybe that's because my weapons suck ![]()
I'd list classes as follows:
Infiltrator>all.
Guest_StreetMagic_*
Infiltrator>all.
Spoiler
I like it, but I change my whole backstory for it. So I don't really pit them against each other... it's just a completely different take on Shepard.
I prefer it with War Hero btw. Perfect story for a sniper and saboteur. With a mix of Die Hard. Even the mission in ME1 with Haliat is perfect for snipers. ![]()
