Thought I was going to get jumped by not one, but two bears right outside camp in the Hinterlands. Instead, something magical happened. And by "something magical," I mean a hilarious glitch.

It seems you scared them so much that they started to dance xD

But I must say... Lucky you o 3o Fight with bears can be... unbearable (sorry, I finished JoH yesterday with one of my Inquisitiors)

That's not a glitch. The bears are just marking their territory. Little bear goes first and then the Big Bear covers it up, because the Hinterlands belong to him now!

Well usually they do it to trees, but hey, this is Ferelden. Altough I bet bears would be alot more popular on the forums if they occasionally did their territorial marking dance on the trees...

But the video was really cool. :D

Heh...

What's happening is that established camps have a zone where wildlife can't cross. The bears are just running up against the invisible wall around the camp and wigging out. ;)

This. That's why it's also easy to just outrun a bear/bears to the camp, instead of fighting them.

I've seen them camping the boundary waiting for you to leave so they can attack

I went to save the vid of the first bear and came back to the second bear doing the same thing. It was great lol.

Well, they always wander away in my game. I've used this method almost constantly in all my 6 playthroughs because I rather avoid killing bears .  :)

This seems to be happening more and more lately, and in areas far distant from camp. I don't know what's going on with pathfinding, but bears and gurguts seem to be especially vulnerable. They'll jump around in place, bucking and wiggling, and turning themselves around and totally not attacking. I almost feel sorry for killing them when they're like this... until I remember all the times my character will just abort all commands I issue and stand there in a combat-ready stance while getting mauled by 3 ghouls, a hurlock archer, and a hurlock alpha. Jumping in place sometimes restores control of the character, but other times, you just have to stand there and hope that the rest of the party mops up before your character runs out of health.
