I'm curious if it can be done and what tips anyone has to play the game in full non pause mode.

1.Two warriors in your party. (never recruited Iron Bull hence don't know about reaver)
2.One mage knight enchanter
3.Always seek and buy better schematics and materials.
4.Fade touched silverite and fade touched snoufleur skin

(If one of my party members falls i considerate as game over and reload, reviving teammates is stupid and breaks game balance )

I tried a couple of classic battles (first Pride demon, Haven raid) in NM without pause or tac. Well, actually, the very beginning of the Pride demon I used tac to position Solas and Varric, but after that, no pause or tac. It's tough. I spent a lot of time running away and kiting bosses around obstacles. Most of my companions would die a few times.

Wow! No revive that is hardcore.

Nope.  Perhaps if there were better move orders you could issue from the regular hud, or more advanced tactics it would be different.

I don't use tac cam on any difficulty. On nightmare I do swap controlled characters to move them out of stuff or use specific skills but I don't pause the fight while doing so. On my computer that's F1-F4 keys to quick swap controlled party member.

As for tips, I really don't have many. Basically keep weapons, gear, upgrades and skills on par/level for all companions following you around, I personally focus on companions' gear etc first, and then my Inquisitor. I do have either Blackwall or Cassandra in my party (I play a mage) at all times since I gear them to survive the hits. I get the more potions perk as soon as I can (from forces).

I'm still on my first playthrough at lvl 18, on nightmare, and I have only used tac cam once to check an opponent's resistances. Between my PC being a rogue (with stealth, which is usually an auto-win in any game) and a properly built NPC tank being immortal, it's doable with only a few reloads.

That's what I did too because for whatever reason those ranged party members just have to get up close and personal for some odd reason.

When I soloed as then there is no use for tac cam for setting up party combos. Just move a lot and keep hitting those keys. Keep gear upgraded as best as possible get tier 2 mats and schematics asp. When playing killable classes (I am not looking at you ke or champion) prioritize on defensive and get out of jail free abilities like stealth and evade on rogues, Guardian spirit and fade step on mages and shield wall combat roll on warriors especially pre skyhold. Rifts are hardest as you can't kite beyond the boundary and you need at least two defensive abilities that you can juggle between. Barrier / fade step for example on mages. Kill ranged units first as they can hit you from anywhere. A really tough fight pre skyhold was Crestwood Rift under Lake. Three waves! It took several tries with mage as I had to switch from stationary setting up a immobile hold point where I could stand and nuke everything with fire mine and then switch to being mobile. Bunch of terrors terrorizing you plus wraiths in three waves augh! Nasty. Guardian spirit and pots helped there and I had to save mark of Rift for the final wave. But that was post skyhold I think but still tough because of those conditions and lvl was not high yet (I rushed to skyhold naturally). The haven battle can be kited really well you just let everyone die. It be a real challenge to solo and save people as well. But I think I have gotten much better at this game since doing a the solo nightmare run. Real-time playing in multi player with only 4 skills helps sharpening those real-time skills.

In a group of 4 it is inevitable that the ai does something stupid from time to time. Like omg the dragon is flapping its wings / let's all run or fade step away. That's the classic example where if you don't pause and give commands your ranged party members will auto suicide.

I occasionally drop into tac cam to reposition my companions who have run into stupid positions, but other than that, I stay out of it and don't switch characters much, preferring to focus on my PC. I do use pause quite a lot though.

I only switch to tac-cam periodically if I need to give someone a specific order. I find the game much more rewarding to play sans-tac-cam, and I try to build my parties to facilitate playing without it. I try to take abilities with synergy for my companions and equip them with good armor. I hesitate to say exactly how I build my party, because it's pretty evident to me that there is no right way to do it. I'm on my 4th nightmare playthrough now, and they've all been different, yet successful.

Builds I've enjoyed:

Inq. reaver, Blackwall, Sera, Dorian--Blackwall takes aggro, Dorian panics enemies, Sera and I mow them down.

Inq. necromancer, Iron Bull, Sera, Solas--Lots of AOE into a point around Iron Bull for easy nuking.

Inq. tempest archer, Cassandra, Sera (DW daggers), Vivienne--Sera and Vivienne follow Cass, Viv keeps everyone alive, I brutalize with arrows. Dragons get destroyed with this group. (this has been my favorite playthrough)

Inq. 2-hander (not sure of spec yet, probably reaver again), Varric, Solas, Dorian--This is my current playthrough. My plan is for my inquisitor to tank and keep the aggro, and set up Varric and Dorian to put out damage. Solas will support and provide AOE. Things die pretty fast.

I don't play with friendly-fire. I don't find that enjoyable.

I play with FF on but it definitely restricts what you can do with anything AOE.

I find that when I use the tac cam on Nightmare mode, it makes it a lot more tricky for me to stay alive so I don't tend to use it what so ever on Nightmare mode, so I suppose I suck at tactics in the cam. With the right behavioral settings you don't really need it in my opinion, most of my team makes good choices about who and what to take on or what to do, makes the combat a lot more fun and a lot less of a babysitting chore.

Tac cam sucks, and playing in that mode makes the game harder. I guess it does make it slightly easier to babysit your party though.

I managed to get through Nightmare without using it. The rare occasions I did use it were to occasionally make my party members dodge incoming dragon fire ball thingys. I usually used a mix of Dorian, Solas, Sera, and Cassandra for my party groups. Dorian spent a lot of time on the floor though!!  <_< Oh, I had a mage and went for Knight Enchanter, which helped a lot, especially as I picked party members for personality instead of usefulness! :P

The one time I played on Nightmare I never used the Tactical Camera outside the Ferelden Frostback fight.

I play on Nightmare and only use the tac cam to see how many enemies there are and to pause and give my party potions. I do combat in real time and I don't have much trouble during fights. I find that you need to have good builds for your party members and the right skills preferred. For warriors, I always get War Cry and set it to preferred in tactics. I also get Charging Bull and Combat Roll for all my warriors. For mages I always get Revive and Barrier (preferred) so they can support my party. And for rogues, I get stealth and set it to preferred and get Easy to Miss passive to reduce threat. I always make sure that I have a build in mind for my Inquisitor when doing a Nightmare run.

I did,

once you pass the pride demon on the prologue you can't lose.

once you reach skyhold you are immortal.

I rarely use the tactical camera actually, partly because of laziness. But mostly because I want the ability to set up the party members AI in such a way that they can deal with **** on Nightmare.

I noticed my team was ****** immortal on Hard so I recently switched up to Nightmare.

I roll as Champion / Vanguard with:

Cassandra - Templar / Vanguard

Blackwall - Battlemaster / Vanguard

Iron Bull - Weapon and Shield / Vanguard

Fuckin' nothing can stop us. It's awesome seeing all four Charge the **** out of everyone. Fun times.

I only use Tac Cam if someone dies and I need to find the body to use revive on them. Generally this happens when they get smooshed by a Dragon.

I played 6 or 7 chars up to the end on nightmare now. Never used the tac mode much.

But there is a fight now where i had use it a lot. With the dlc the fight against Hakkon in his first form.

Has anyone done this fight on nightmare and NOT used it ??
