When it comes to the writing of Inquisition it seems to have highs and lows. Granted no book, movie or game has perfect writing; they happen to have small moments that don't make much sense. However in Inquisition it is littered with moments that stick out like a sore thumb that don't make any sense and/or counterdict something previous said thus causing confusion and head scratching.

Here are two writing flubs that irk me the most.

"Someone!"

At the beginning of the game, Cassandra, Varric, Solas and your character arrive at the Breech. You hear the Divine call out from a vision Fade echo,  "Someone help me!"  Follow by your character. "What is going on here?"

Cassandra chimes in and says, "That was your voice. Most Holy called out to you but..."

For starters: The Divine never called out to my character for help. She said, "Someone." She was seeking help from anyone. Unless all our characters default name is "Someone."

My husband said he plans on playing the game again and naming his character, "Someone" so this part does make sense.

The Marquis

There is a cut-scene between Cassandra and Chancellor Rodrick. Cassandra has finally had a enough and slams down a book on the war table.

Cassandra: "Do you know what this is, Chancellor? A writ from the Divine granting us the authority to act. As of this moment, I declare the Inquisition reborn."

Later you get a cut-scene with Josephine arguing with a Marquis.

Marquis: "The Inquisition cannot remain, Ambassador, if you cannot prove it was founded on Divine Justina's orders."

This scene has bothered me since day one, because right after the Inquisition declaration I always trigger this scene with Josephine and the Marquis. When the Marquis says this line, I feel like smacking him upside the head and Josephine too. It was founded on the Divine's orders. Cassandra and Lilly have a writ from her. Just show the Marquis the writ and then shove his ass out the door. Why the hell was this argument put in the game? More importantly how the hell was this writing flub not caught by the writer(s) and/or developers? It stands out like a hooker on a Vegas Strip! Bah!

The "someone" scene is rather mean to illustrate that Cassandra realizes how it couldn't have been you, if you were just stumbling in and heeding her cry for help. I don't see a problem with the fact that her utterance of bafflement wasn't 100% repeating the facts. It was more like a "you didn't kill her, she even wanted you (or anyone, and clearly you were anyone) to help her" kind of deduction, since obviously Justinia isn't going to call her immediate attacker for help.

The scene with the Marquis... well, you could chalk it off as the Marquis being ignorant about the details, and Josephine trying to stay diplomatic. I mean, he honestly doesn't give away that correcting him on this point would change his mind on just being a pain in the arse because he can. Nobles love their property.

Oh God dont remind me about that scene !!

I want to know why the Inquisitor even was there !! of all the guards and everything..

Then how the brit female voice goes 'Whats going on here?' ..in such a casual way..it make me cringe everytime , now I just skip it .

If I see something weird going on...I say 'HEY! What are you doing!!!!' ..not 'what's going on here?' ...

The only thing that bother me , is the dialogue with fetch quest . often you approach an NPC 'We need Blanket' ..and you ask him like you went deaf  'What do you need ?' ...wish the npc would glare and go 'Blaaaaaaaanket!! Blanket!! dammit!' ...

1) You answer her call, so she called out to you because you were the someone who answered

2) You can say that. "Funny, considering the Inquisition was started by the left and right hands of the Divine"

I think he trys to rebuff it, but i can't remember what he said. Though they say the writ from the Divine "grants them the authority to act". They could show him, but he's determined to be a pain. Haven isn't even his, as Josie says.

The casual "what's going on here?" is the only thing i am even slightly bothere by, more so because later you get a more gruff "what's going on here?"

Is not a specific scene for me, but rather a general feeling that the various pieces don't really fit together. It all feels like a bunch of episodes mashed together with only a very tenuous overarching premise to hold it all together. DAI is by no means alone in this, in fact it's a common problem with Bioware plots, but it somehow feels worse this time around given how small the main plot is relative to the overal size of the game; it somehow magnifies the issue as you end focusing more on what plot there is due to the overall lack of it and thus it's deficiencies seem more obvious.

In Cassandra's beginning infodump monologue she says "We lash out like the sky . . ." and I wanted to day "how long were you thinking up that crappy simile?  Because, frankly, it needs work."

Also, I don't know WHAT it was about the dialog at Therinfall Redoubt but from the moment we walked in until the fighting started I was just sitting here going "WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE SAY SOMETHING INTERESTING?!  PLEASE?!?!?!!!?"  I wanted an option to pretend to snore for every single one of the PC's responses.  I was expecting to be all tense and **** because here I am, a mage, walking into a Templar stronghold.  Was not expecting the attack to be a RELIEF.

Is your companions being able to enter the rift with you ever explained? Because as I understood it, the mark is what gives the Inquisitor that ability (and Justinia could be explained away for magic-y, ritual, explosion-y reasons, I guess). Or can anyone enter rifts now? If so, why was the mark necessary for Cory to gain entry? Why couldn't he have just waltzed on in through one of the rifts popping up all over the place...?

I love the game, but that entire situation makes my head hurt. xD

Maybe the rifts created by the breach are just too... dangerous? Too instable? Maybe the anchor is the only thing that can create a stable tear that can be passed through by mortals.

At least, I got the impression that anchor tears are different from breach tears.

I think it's out of place when Solas complains of your dismissal of his feelings as "the crazy knife ear whining" when you yourself play as an elf.

Also when you speak with Morrigan upon entering the Arbor Wilds, she informs you that the ruins they are searching may be a temple dedicated to Mythal. Even a dalish Inquisitor will proceed to question "Which is?"

Just......ugh

The worst one is clearly "Whats going on here" atleast from Alix Wilton as the voice actor of the Inquisitor. And she repeats it in a conversation with Dorian and Mother Giselle at one point with the exact same tone, i just laugh each time. Even the first time i played the game i cringed at that line, and i still do.

Also some scenes move abit to quick. Atleast Vivienne's quest with Duke Fabien? Not sure of his name. It was poorly written and executed.

I am not trying to offend here, but I for one was not seeking an explanation. Secondly your explanation makes ZERO sense to me.

Moving on...

I thought of another that bothers me...

Doing Bull's mission.

The Qun contact explains to you how its going to work.

He says something along the lines of the smuggler ship being able to out run the dregnaught. Yet in Dragon Age 2 Izzy states that her smuggler ship was having a hard time getting the dregnaught off her tail - even through a bad storm.

Later on during this mission...

When you have a choice between: Saving The Charges or The Qunari's Ship. This scene was so contrived and idiotic.

Uh, why can't I just run down the damn hill and fireball the damn Vints!?!

<throws up hands> :P

This isn't a contradiction.  The Writ just grants Cassandra and Leliana "the authority to act".  Does she say anywhere that the writ SPECIFICALLY authorizes the creation of The Inquisition?  Does it specifically ORDER Cassandra and Leliana to create the Inquisition?  Then it's perfectly legitimate for the noble to question whether the Inquisition was created under the Divine's ORDERS.  It was created under her AUTHORITY--IF she still has any after she is dead.  But that doesn't mean that there is a piece of paper somewhere saying "Cassandra, create the Inquisition, signed Justinia".

And if anyone's going to split hairs, it's a noble with a largely questionable claim. :P

But then the Inquisitor using the mark to tear rifts and use them to kill people. XD Buuuut I suppose the marl-bearers intention could effect the nature of the rift? More violent, unstable ones for combat, and more of a doorway type deal for the entire party at Adamant?

For me, it's the Wicked Grace cutscene in Skyhold. Most of the writing through most of the game was okay to really good (Sera, Dorian, Leliana, Iron Bull, Temple of Mythal are high points), but the Wicked Grace game made me wince and cringe. It was so stiff and so the opposite of what it was supposed to be -- a warm "moment" with friends. It didn't help that the character animations were also stiff -- there's a shot where every character is staring blankly at nothing .... (shudder) possibly the most immersion breaking moment of the whole game for me.

After my first PT where that cutscene was inflicted on me unawares, I've purposely did things to increase Varric's disapproval, just to make sure I never was offered that option again. That's how disappointing/disturbing it is to me.

I am not kidding when I say I wrote an entire word document on this a while ago.

Most recently, it's been some of the ridiculous dialogue options I've been getting. For instance I was just talking to Cullen about the Wardens with my mage Inquisitor and I have the option of asking him if he'd kill me if I was possessed. What kind of question is that? That's like me asking my friend if he'd hand me over to the police if I became a psychotic killer. Putting him in that position; poor Cullen. Wow. Can't believe I just said "poor Cullen" sincerely. Woo.

Bit of info: if you do get that cutscene when you get to the point where Varric asks if you are in, say no. Inquisitor walks off instead of participating and the scene ends well before all that odd stuff starts. However I got a bug when doing that where companions act like you did stay and join in the game in banter etc afterward. Notably Cullen still has his line if asking him if there's anything you should know afterwards.

They got rid of some great options that were originally in the Keep. One was Hawke supporting blood magic. I think that's the one people are most upset about. The only other thing I can recall that BioWare removed from the Keep is the option of whether or not your Hawke and Cullen were friends.

Oh, and I realize this isn't a writing flub, per say, but I don't like that when I romanced Cullen on a playthrough that I went out of my way to make sure had a sacrificed female mage Warden, Cullen's like, "Yeah, I had a little crush on her, but that was it." Um, excuse me? Do you remember DA2 when you told Hawke that you were in LOVE? I would have preferred a bit more emotional conflict from Cullen, especially since the first woman he love died, so now what will happen to this one? I doubt I'm the only one who was upset that he said the Warden was just a little crush, but beyond that I feel it was a missed opportunity by not having him talk about the Warden. I realize it would require more dialogue, but I'm not looking for a whole speech. Just a few sentences, even.
