Take this guide with a grain of salt as some of the information seems outdated and others are focusing on sub optimal stats. While the best min/max is from qunari, the staff noted and the crafting materials used for it are way sub optimal. While crit chance is amazing with flashpoint. It has a 10 sec internal cooldown. This means that you will not be able to use it all the time even if you are critting every hit. Next thing to note is that crit chance and dmg are sub optimal stats for a mage offense. Attack % is much better. With staff of corruption, you get the best offensive capabilities. I get attack % from both metal and cloth slots and crit chance for the leather. I also use critical crafting for my staff to get the best dmg increase for general use (the fade touched blood stone can be better in melee range). For even more ridiculous dmg, I get the hidden blades masterwork on my armor. That with energy barrage makes a great combo for amazing dmg. Staff of corruption can be gotten early, and doesn't require finding separate upgrades for max dmg.
The following is a guide to pretty much everything.

This is good to figure out the Best stats to min/max.

I disagree with a critical damage Knight-Enchanter being sub-optimal. I fought the Sandy Howler just know on Nightmare with a 100% Critical Chance and 81% Critical Damage build for my human Knight-Enchanter and I killed her with very little difficulty using my party of Cole, Solas, and Blackwall. At the very least it's a worthwhile alternative. Seriously the critical damage I was getting on the Sandy Howler's guard was getting insane.

I am not saying that it is not viable, but you will be doing less damage overall when compared to maxing attack %. For instance, I am at my full build, and I do more damage without crits than you do with them. For rogues and warriors, there are more viable reasons for crit (like how attack % is applied in the damage formula), but for mages you could be doing more consistent damage. Right now I have 30% crit, 138% attack, and 45% crit damage. I do more damage not even factoring my crits. There are many ways to play the game, none are incorrect (well, that is unless you start stacking armor pen on a mage). This thread though is about min/maxing. Which is to maximize the potential of the Knight Enchanter, rather than what is viable on nightmare or not.

Right now, I can do 97% critical damage with my KE. You're right that more attack will out damage it.

Rogues and Warriors have talents that take advantage of crits but Arokh is correct that the only critical chance centered talent for Mages is flashpoint. I also like the look of the Corruption staff better than the Staff of Lovies (sp?). I will give this a whirl in my next play through.

After switching to an all Attack set-up, I repeat my earlier admittance to Attack being better than Critical Damage for the Knight Enchanter.
