the game mechanics suck something fierce, the story is good. seriously if it wasn't for the frist game i would have thrown it away after 30 minutes.

Gotta agree

On Story, characters, graphics I give this game 10 outta ten

Then combat hits and it sinks to maybe a 5 outta 10.

And anyone that says this not a pure ammo system is talking out their you know what.

If it wasnt for Biotics, this game would be unplayable and Im definately not playing a soldier class as this ammo system and switching out weapons just sucks donkey balls.

Bioware, please lose the crappy ammo system and go back to original unlimited with over heating. Hell make it so we over heat faster, that would be fine but running outta ammo sucks huge and ruins the combat totally for me.

I would love this ammo system. If it was logically consistant.

Universal interchangeable heatsinks right? So why can't I rip the out of the 'pool' for the SMG and use them in the Heavy Pistol? Oh well.

Agree, how come im the only one with heat sinks?

My groupmates dont ever run out
Enemies never run out

Seems to me the only person running out of heat sinks in battle is me and Im playing mostly a biotic so not firing all that much.

and what happened to heat sinks being common? Im playing on casual to learn game and had like 30 battles already where no heat sinks were dropped what so ever by enemies? Whats up with that?

I hate to harp on the combat (I really do) as the RPG elements of this game are breath taking, but I dont see these smarter enemies Bioware, reveiwers, and Shooterfanatics talking about? I only seen a few hide behind obsticals and I saw that just as often in ME1 so AI not increased. They stand out waiting to get shot till your outta heat sinks and cant fire anymore. Then waves 3-10 come at your also not dropping heat sinks as you use your biotics to best of abilty while your groupmates fire at will, as they never run outta heatsinks. Oh how vastly improved that is!!! Spare me.

Go back to unlimited ammo and just dont allow th shooter kiddies to put upgrades that allow them to shoot non stop with out creating heat. Problem solved FOR ALL TYPES OF PLAYERS.

well first off you are playing on casual so that might affect the AI and im currently a infiltrator and the only ammo problem ive been having is over using the hand cannon... thats about it

You run out of heat sinks? I never have ammo issues.

Also, this game's combat is 10 times more interesting than ME1's (which I found pretty boring).

I find it depends on the weapon, my AR is practically never out, HP runs dry in seconds.

Agreed. Other than the hand cannon, ammo is a non-issue. Using the right weapon at the right time is your best conservation tactic. As well as judicious use of powers and abilities.

Im a adept, I have 3 weapons,

Pistol, sub machine gun, heavy missle launcher.

Dont give me this bull cxrap about right weapon, im out of ammo, period

Pistol has (forget how many, think its 24 from full to empty)
Sub Machine gun has 18
Heavy Missle launcher has 4

Thats not alot of rounds when your opponents not dropping any

I barely fire my damn guns, mostly I use biotics.

I really wish people with no clue wouldnt answer for others when they DONT KNOW.

Adepts are supposed to be low on ammo. You want to shoot a lot, play a soldier?

As an adept, you have plenty of abilities that give you a better shot and soften up enemies, meaning you should be using less ammo to make up for how little you get.

Later on, pick up Warp Ammo to combo up with your biotics even better.

Really? The only gun I flat out ever seem to run out of ammo for is my HP. Even my shotgun almost always has 2 or 3 rounds left.(I play a vanguard). And ya, not all the enemies drop sinks but...forgive me, but are you just a poor shot? I'm decent at twitch-shooting, but I rarely run out of ammo at all.

Submachine gun has about 500 rounds you can stock up on. And have you considered, you know, upgrading your ammo capacity?

And as others have stated...the AI isn't that advanced because you are playing casual. It isn't supposed to be advanced or super challenging.

I don't personally like the ammo system, but once i got used to it, it doesn't bother me much.

Thus far the only thing i don't like is how completely horrid the cameos are for Liara, Ashley, and Anderson. there is like, ZERO emotion.

The way it works now you either are a soldier, and have an AR with a huge ammo supply Or your one of the classes that isn't and have t obe constently swapping out your guns to beable to shoot back. I've seen lots of instances (expecially in the harder difficulties) Where they basicly screw the specialist types (Inflitrators that like to use sniper rifles the most.) Wit hyou using up more ammo the nthe enemy drops killing them. The SMg and AR hold the most ammo al lthe other gun use something like less than 10 shots most of the time. Shotgun hold like 15 shots SR like 10 and Heavy pistol like 20 before your completely out.

So your basiclly forced to charge because you favorite gun is out of ammo all the time and you have to use the gun bioware says you should be using al lthe time (The ones that have the most ammo counts) to run over the heat sink drops. So don't expect Long range sniper play to beable to finish even one mid sized battle. Because they throw tons of baddies at you too. This I've seen al lin the Live feeds on Justin TV.

no offense, but I am able to use any of my guns at almost any time without issue. i am a vanguard.

not to be a ******, but are some of you just that bad at wasting shots?

Ya I am really trying hard to like the new combat system so far I think about half the changes they made were great and the other half makes me wonder what the hell they were thinking. I mean the two new decryption mini games are good but scanning and probing planets is less fun than riding in an elevator. Yes bioware I would rather ride in a Mass Effect elevator than scan a planet. The limited ammo is the main thing that annoys me so far instead of enjoying battles like I used to do now I get to nervously keep an I on my ammo and then occasionally have to stop fighting (in the middle of battle just to look for ammo) who ever thought this would be a good idea needs smacked upside their head. Well maybe it's like the elevator riding and I will eventually be able to ignore it. Alls I know is that I started as an adept my favorite class from ME and about 2 hours into ME I went  "man they seriously gutted everything I liked about this class out of ME2" . I'm going to start over as a vanguard hopefully that will be more fun. I can tell you right though I am playing through this game once and selling it and this is coming from a person who has 10 plus play throughs available for import from ME1 and still enjoys ME1. Seriously I am not reprobing every planet (probing =almost as fun as it sounds ROFL(almost)).

Eh, how can people not like the combat? It's like a godsend, compared to the boring stuff in ME. Besides, there you could just abuse it by putting in maximum heatsinks and holding down the trigger all the time. I prefer this, it makes you plan. I've never had any problems with ammo, unless I stick to one weapon type, of course.

It's gimmicky. Constantly switching weapons in a fire fight spells: TOO MUCH GAMER. Give me the overheat any day and make me work to improve that aspect with upgrades.

No matter what Bioware did with their combat people wouldn't be happy stop your ****ing, They changed combat for the game, to make it more like a shooter then an RPG. If your not happy well go back to play ME where you can spam some how infinite ammo that makes no sense compared to having guns that all use the same heat sink and not work together.

I like the new ammo mechanic. I thought the pistol was too overpowering in ME1 bc u basiclly got unlimited ammo. I'm still early, and playing on hardcore, but ammo does seem scarse. Like other posters have mentioned, I switch between guns when necessary (playin vanguard) and try not to blind fire and waste ammo. Softening up baddies (overload ftw) and goin for headshots saves ammo

I love the new combat system, but one thing really bothers me...

Space bar for both sprint and cover...

So you can't sprint when your trying to run from a cover.

no if they had just made minor improvements to the old system more would have been happy. Many people liked the old system and what does it matter if you could put the maximum heat sinks in it. It's a single player game. If someone wanted to play like that it would not have effected you. Although I did the opposite. My gun overheated every time I pulled the trigger on account of the explosive ammo. It is what is though I think i'll the vanguard better.

Seriously people learn to switch weapons and dont make favorites... just learn to embrace other type of weapon styles yeah your an adept... your given like 3 weapons because you have powers sure they cool and you cant use any of them but would having access to all powers but having 30 second recharges be better?

i like to mix things up with a snipe ever once and a while but it isn't necessary and im usually a sniper and im smart enough not to just use it

I think people are reacting this way because the new system makes it much more of a shooter in playstyle than ME1 was. That will rankle with quite a few people, because of the different playstyle. You had quite a few people playing ME1 who aren't fans of shooters (FPS, TPS or otherwise) and so making this franchise more of a TPS type game was bound to tick some people off.

I can sort of understand your disappointment about ME2's combat system, and maybe that's because it is incredibly different from ME1. For me, I've only played 4 hrs and I'm still trying to get used to it. Overall though, I feel that despite the changes, combat feels more stable, especially when you bust out the sniper rifle (no more wobbling).

It will of course that some getting used to but I expect that.

The only thing I'm disappointed with is the power system. The more I'm playing the game the more it fits with the new combat system, but I really miss the talent progression from the first game. Other than that I think the whole game was improved and fits more with the universe they created.

On difficulty, I started playing on Veteran and I almost died during the first encounter on Freedom Station, and I have no problem flying through Insanity in the first game. The AI will distract you with forward units while others will try and flank you. The AI is much more robust this time around if you play on harder difficulties.

On ammo, it seems for me that only about one-in-three or one-in-four enemies drop thermal clips, but there are so many enemies that this hasn't become a problem for me yet. I do think it would be better if you could still fire your weapons without clips, but they would overheat a lot more quickly. For example, the pistol would overheat after like 4-6 shots. My understanding was that thermal clips were supposed to allow for continuous fire without worrying about overheating. In this way guns without clips should still be able to fire, but you will have to mitigate the overheating issue like the first game.

I am playing an Adept. I have a pistol that holds 24 rounds, some kind of machine gun that holds LOTS of ammo, and my super laser beam heavy weapon which has plenty of ammo. First of all, I party with Grunt and Tali. The only time I shoot is when I need to use my weapon that obliterates shields. I mainly CC/nuke/and pick off armor with my biotics. Of course, first thing I did was evolve biotics for the much faster cooldown/more damage. I for one have no issue with ammo at all. This is on hard.
