I had absolutely no idea he could live! Wow. Does it even make sense that he wouldn't get an arrow to the face just because you don't do the flag ritual? Anyway, I really wish you could actually explain why you choose the order you do. Instead I'm forced to say "My reasons are my own." Ugh.

Good idea! I'll just put them here. I put the people first, because they're my priority. Then the Order of Templars by default, and the Maker last because my character doesn't believe he exists. I wish I could have said something similar ingame, at least emphasizing that the people are who I care about the most. Envy recognizes this, and therefore the writers, but for some reason you can't say it.
Anyway, what were everyone else's reasons and order if you used the flags?

I never really ever considered not doing the Flag Ritual. Not only was it more content to roleplay and help define my character, but in universe, we came to negotiate with the Templars, so proceeding with one of their sacred rites seemed like the smarter option.

The reason is pretty obvious. He trusts you if you don't do the ritual, and thinks you're just trying to beguile everyone if you do. That's why he steps away when you warn him in the scenario where he lives. Seemed pretty obvious to me, considering that's exactly what he says.

Look, all I needed was an explanation, not snark. I didn't remember exactly how the scenario played out, it's been months. I didn't remember exactly who said what and how that would relate to the flags. I understand now, but there is no need for the rudeness.

I played a very devout Trevelyan, so he picked the Chantry/Maker/Andraste flag first, then the people, then the templars. Unfortunately I don't think the order in which you pick your second and third flag affects anything.

That was my order as well. Of course, when I learned Abernache dies because of that ceremony, I changed it so I refused to participate.

The difference is that when you do the ritual, he becomes insulted and tries to win over Knight-Captain Denam to spite you, putting him in the line of fire. When you refuse to do the ritual, he notices that Denam is a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs and wisely steps out of the way.

Yeah, I don't think it does. Too bad.

So, is the flag ritual actually the Envy demon's way of finding out more about you?
Yes. Also meant to buy more time to better prepare for your capture.

To add to that, your prioritized flag will change what Envy says to you.

I did the same order as you though mine is devout and believes, for me i agree with one of the comments you can make to mother giselle after have in destroyed and your in the mountains (before she sings the dawn will come) "all this started because of fanatics trying to get to the other world, we should start worrying about this one". I put the people first because its the people who suffer most when the sh*t hits the fan and it is they who need the most protection. the templars go second because they are a fighting force but also because they are part of the people(the order not, but the members of the order are people) they were created to protect the people so it stands to reason that they should be second. as for the maker. well from a personal note of RL (i don't follow any religion because formal groups lead to fanatics which leads to a whole mess of things) as for I'm game. Although my char is almost always dalish, they have many gods, whats one more who's to know whats right and whats wrong so believing is fine. its not a question of is the maker important, its a question of what you can do do improve things. sure belief in the maker gives hope but hope alone can not save the people not can it root out evil in the templar order, thats my job.

Nice explanation. That line you quoted is one of my favourite Inquisitor lines.

Likewise. Also, my faithful Trevelyan warrior knew enough about the templars (seeing as how her family expected her to become one) to appreciate the rare honor of an outsider being asked to perform this ritual. She too raised the people's flag first because their suffering matters, and because protecting people is also a service to the Maker -- while those who "hurt the least of his children without provocation" will never have his favor. And no, wielding any remotely staff-like implement or simply existing as a mage is not "provocation". All these facts are something the order badly needed to be reminded of.

Abernache Over Under is the greatest war table mission in the game. Therefore he must always be saved and paired with Morvan! That mission is simply a thing of beauty.
Bwahaha yeah.. you're making me hard to chose, bro. Do the flag or not do the flag? Even Cullen comments that he'd pay to see Abernach getting cultural lessons from Morvan
Love every part of that chain.

No he deserves to be paired with the mighty Morvan! The two of them then become a legendary duo either with Abernache living in terror from Morvan, Abernache being destroyed during sparring, or the two becoming the greatest diplomatic duo in the history of ever!He deserved to die for wearing one of those stupid hats.

Really? Dang, now I'll have to play that mission again just to see. Unless I can find it on Youtube.
