Heya,

After playing and liking Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, I thought I'd try Dragon Age: Inquisition. It is...quite different.

I play on Casual difficulty, and still I get my ass handed to me by bears...I'm stuck in the Hinterlands, trying to figure things out.

I play a qunari female warrior sporting 2 handed weapons. My party consists of Cassandra, Varric and Solas. I have no one else.

I use a Logitech F710 Gamepad on PC. The game seems way too difficult for what I expected 'casual' to be. So I thought I might be doing something wrong. I was hoping someone here could help me figure out what it is and how to fix it.

I'm sorry I can't formulate a more precise question at the time.

Best regards,

Daqar

Edit: I hit the post button too early! =oP

If I remember correctly ...if you're running into bears in the Hinterlands , you're in one part of the map requiring a higher level.

If you have no problem killing templars and mages , you don't really have a problem .

Level up a bit , do part of the main quests , get some new companions , go to the Storm Coast ....don't try to finish up the Hinterlands in one go.

Ahh...I figured it might be something like that. In the other games you had to finish an area before moving on. Is it different in Dragon Age 3?

Each map is sort of different ...some map you can do everything , other you have to go back later.

Anyway here's the recommended level for every map :

Unless the game map gives you any sort of warning when you unlock an area (such as the Arbor Wilds near the end of the main questline), you'll be able to travel to and from that area pretty much any time you want. So, yes, there will be areas in the maps where things are very overpowered and you'll simply have to come back and tackle them later.

The bears in the Hinterlands is definitely one of those things. There's also a high dragon and one particular Fade rift there that are pretty tough as well.

A lot of players (me too) do tend to avoid backtracking, but it helps to have the tougher ones spread out so you don't have to do side quests in the same order.  It helps to get a level or 2 doing the Crossroads quests, but bears get a lot easier around level 7, I think.  It might help to bring along some Antivan fire to whittle away the bears' health while your warriors have at it.  Varric's burst shot and a good fire staff for Solas is also a good idea.  I like to extend my health potions with the regen ones, to maintain a slow but steady healing throughout.  That's why there's so much elfroot around, and you can get the recipe for the fire from the merchant at the Crossroads, under the "other" tab.

Bears are resistant to cold, so a cold staff won't help Solas, but Winter's Grasp still chills  for additional damage from status effects.  Varric likes it in the thick of things, so you might want to check to make sure he's not too close.  That duster of his isn't much against something that big.

The map area that I fall into a lot is the rift west of the Crossroads, over the river.  Those terrors are intense.
