My last several female playthroughs have all had me somehow missing it. I've gotten it before, but the last number of playthroughs have kept me from getting it. I know that it's a conversation you're forced into upon entering camp, and I have no idea how to get it to happen. Most I ever get from him in regards to forced conversations is his "the Blight, how will you end it" one.
How do you get the "you look like a woman" conversation from Sten?

Finish a main quest and not have got to the first approval marker, the one where he tells you why he was in that cage-but don't quote me on that.Not sure if that's right or not.
I'll admit-I'd like to know how you get the 'never see it coming' dialogue option-i've never got that one either.

I can help you there. Take Sten to Haven when you go the first time. If he has his lost sword it's just an argument, without he duels you 1 on 1 for leadership.

Oh. I always delay giving him the sword even when I have it to at least fight him once, then reload and give him the sword and walk 5 feet to get the conversation where he has it. I even take off all my overpowered accessories so it's a fair fight. By the level we're both at, it's usually a close fight. I tend to win, but he sometimes does if I get unlucky with my dodge rolls.

IIRC you look like a woman (well, thank you very much Sten. Nice to know), is the second time back into camp. I always take him to Orzammar early on to get his paint armour and then do his sword quest as it comes round.

Can't be, I got the "blight and how you will end it" conversation on the second time back to camp. I'm past the first treaty quest now, once again have not gotten it. I'm beginning to think this conversation is bugged in my game, because it never happens.

Bizarrely I didn't get this for the whole game in any of my trips to camp, but when I finished and it loaded up post-epilogue I headed to the camp on the map just to see what would happen-when I entered that's when I got the 'You look like a woman' opener. Not sure if it's meant to happen at this point or its a bug.
