I'm playing as an elf, and I'm interested in romancing Sera, but I need to know what the options are when you get to the "breaking point" of the relationship after the Temple of Mythal quest.

Is there like a middle ground between saying "I believe in the Creators"-"We're breaking up" and "I don't belive in the Creators"-"Stay together" ? Like "I'm just confused right now"

I guess what I'm saying is, what are the exact options you can choose in that conversation, because I'd like to still say that I worship the Creators but also romance Sera.

Thanks for any help  ^_^

No middle ground. Either you're turning your back on the Creators and all of the beliefs of the Dalish or Sera will dump you.

Hmm, slightly dismaying.

If I can ask, how many, and what are the exact options you can choose to say in response?

You get a choice between 'I'll renounce for you' and 'I can't let go of this past.' Her reasoning in an info dialogue, basically saying that focusing on the past is focusing on elfy, and SHE'S not elfy, so that means that they don't fit, and some things just don't fit... It's a rambling bit of dialogue, that's basically building on her insecurities, that because she's too human for the elves and too elven for the humans, she has no place, and that she thought an elven Inquisitor was in a similar place, but if the Inquisitor wants to believe in the Creators, then they're being more of an elf, and so that also means that she's alone, so she's pushing the Inquisitor away before the Inquisitor can, as she believes the Inquisitor will do. At least, that's my take away. (Note that I'm only speaking through having watched YouTube recordings of her romance.)

I find it frustrating, because I want to help build her up, but the way the game frames her is very much in a 'agree with her 100% or kick her out.' And that's not building someone up to me.

I don't know about the romance exactly.   May be she is more exacting with that.    However, I've just done that bit with my male elf Inquisitor and chose the middle ground so to speak in that I said I thought it must be partly true (based on the evidence of my own eyes), which she slightly disapproved about but then when she said that would make me look stupid, I responded that was nothing new (or words to that effect) and she liked that.   Following on from this conversation I got the cookies on the roof scene, so obviously I must have done something right.      So I've never said I don't believe in the Creators (although my belief was somewhat shaken after the Temple) but have never said I categorically do either.     If you feel your Dalish girl can't compromise her beliefs like that, then it looks as though Sera will break up with you.

Unfortunately, if you're an elf, you're very much out of luck. No middle-ground whatsoever. You have to decide between either keeping the romance or maintaining your beliefs/values.

I'm pretty sure the romance conversation is different.

Actually, when Sera is pleading with you, she just wants you to tell her you believe her, that she means more to you than the Elven Pantheon. Just like in real life, sometimes a lover just wants to hear something positive from their partner. So placate her, and continue the romance, it doesn't come up again after that.

Wow, she sounds like a keeper.

Doesn't sound like much of a 'Keeper' to me. :P

Still it's a nice 'love it or leave it' choice that I think more romances in general should have. Give up your beliefs or give up your love (or lie about your beliefs, you jerk. ;)  )

Frankly, I think Sera is making a completely unreasonable demand of a significant other here. She's the only one who is asserting that loving her and believing in the Creators are mutually exclusive or even contradictory. It's unfair to someone you care about to expect to pretend their religion is worthless to be with you.

Honestly, if someone in real life spoke about real life minorities in the same way Sera uses the word "elfy" they'd be considered insanely bigoted.

"Aaaand you're black. Well, hope you're not too black."

"Most Hispanic people I know act too Hispanicy."

"And you're not too Asiany. Surprise, I could love that!"

My problem is that this isn't just saying something positive to make your partner feel better. This is a fundamental difference of opinions and attitudes. It may not come up again in game, but it certainly would have to come up again between two people who are in an ongoing romantic relationship. At that point, it stops being a positive statement and starts being a lie. This isn't saying something about how something they like to wear looks bad on them, it's literally 'we believe in totally different things, and you believe they're incompatible and can't be reconciled.' She won't accept a middle ground, a belief that these things can mesh. And her take away is that if you believe in the Creators, you're saying that she's stupid for believing in the Maker, and she won't believe anything different.

Meh

She's worth more to me then dead oaths on pretenders, more then some culture some inaccurate and self absorbed it's a joke.

It's a pity you can't get those tattoos burnt off or something as a symbolic mark of stepping past the childish and naive beliefs of her people.

I never saw her 'Too elfy' as racist . Since I always understood her 'Too elfy' as in personality wise . Not how your Dalish ears are more pointed then a city elf ears .

So that doesn't stand.....

She isn't racist....period .

She's using the name of a race to describe what she sees as an inherently negative quality. If I said I was glad that my friend's personality wasn't too black, or that thankfully his or her behavior isn't too Mexian, I would think I'd be considered racist. Regardless of what I defined being "black" or "Mexicany" as. And probably with good reason.

This. Sera suffers from a crapton of internalized racism, and there is no way to even nudge her out of those beliefs. That's one of my biggest criticisms of her, honestly. You can't get her to budge an inch on the subject. I'm not asking her to fall to her knees and worship the Creators. I'm just asking for an acknowledgement that maybe she's been wrong. But we can't get even the slightest hint of that. And her demand of a Dalish Inquisitor romancing her is just her doubling down on that.

I find it so depressing that her storyline seemed poised to examine the distinctions of city elves and Dalish, or the systematic oppression within Thedasian societies against elves, and instead she got treated as a comic relief character with no need to grow and evolve.

The whole world of Thedas is racist ...

Dalish call city elf flat ear...

Meh... im not sure why a Dalish Inq would continue to believe, the temple pretty much shows how wrong their beliefs are, & how the creators were just powerful spirits/demons when Flemeth shows up afterwards

Pretty much.

It's time for a reality check
