I'm a bit foggy on this whole Vendetta / Elusive dynamic. I know that you mark enemies with vendetta. I know that you build up elusive which is the gold coin stacks and that elusive grants damage resistance, etc as it is used up.
What i am not sure of is how you efficiently generate elusive and if you have any real choice on how to use it up once you have stacks of it?
I poked around a few old thread tutorials on this but couldn't find anything to satisfy my pea brain.
Elusive grants immunity to a single hit, or it grants a single 100% damage resistance if that works for you.
In order to generate Elusive, you need to mark with Vendetta and then hit with an appropriate skill, much like setting up a combo.
Bolt is the easiest way to mark for Vendetta, if your build includes Broadsides, then you have a way to mark Vendetta as an AoE. Dead Men Tell No Tales (DMTNT) makes an excellent passive if you are near the bottom of the No Quarter tree as it spreads Vendetta as targets die, much like virulence.
In order to generate your Elusive EFFICIENTLY you need to get into a cycle Bolt (or Vendetta marking skill) and Flashing Steel (or skill that converts a Vendetta mark into Elusive).
For one of the popular builds that relies on Bolt/Broadsides for Vendetta and Flashing Steel/Ambush for Elusive you would go Bolt-Ambush-Bolt-Flashing Steel-Broadsides-Flashing Steel-Bolt-Ambush etc. You get the picture.
The nice part of using Flashing Steel with Broadsides or the DMTNT passive is that with the AoE impact of Flashing Steel, you can generate multiple counts of Elusive at once if you have managed to mark multiple targets.
This can be key to staying at full health as it can allow you to generate more Elusive than the number of times you are being hit while you stay in the thick of things.
You have no real choice on how you use Elusive other than the choice to spend it ALL on Swashbuckle if you are using that skill.
The only way to keep Elusive is to not get hit.
Post Script.... odd, typed this over an hour ago but never never hit Post, oh well. Better late...
