Who is the black haired guy with the black goatee and moustache in N7 armour that appears in almost every ME4 speculation article on the internet? Its really bugging me because I'm certain it's nothing official. Is it just vague concept art or just some fan art. If it is just fan art, why do so many websites use it as if it's official?

Is it one of these concepts by fans? It's most likely fan art, Bioware has not shown the protagonist's face yet.

Actually thinking about it again, its probably fan art that these sites think is real for they were being used just before E3 last year too.

Those pics have been around since shortly after ME3 came out. They were made using the Unreal 4 engine as some kind of ploy to get BioWare to make ME4 with UE4 iirc. They're not official, not made by BioWare, and not indicative of anything. That so many articles about the next Mass Effect use them is just more proof that games journalism is a joke.

I think they should have.

Frostbite is only being used because it's in-house at EA.

I really don't think it would make that much of a difference with the final product for it is all about what you do with the engine not what engine you are using.

No transition period. They already had UE all figured out, workflows and everything.

UE4 was only released last year and using an in-house engine has many advantages over licensing Unreal. Besides, Frostbite might be the better engine.

If I remember interviews correctly, I believe one of the reasons why they went to Frostbite is they have easier access to the people who designed the engine for there were trips for the two companies to work together which I am not sure would happen with Unreal.
