Also, 8 is too many, IMO. I'd rather have 6 fleshed out characters, then 8-10 who are less so.

My idea squad would be: A human female assassin Zaeed type, (a romanceable human male could be the 'Kelly chambers' of the game), a male Quarian, a Geth/equally interesting AI character, a turian female, a male krogan  and maybe a Drell. Also, if the female assassin and the AI were previous partners before the game, that could be an interesting dynamic. Also, I say a Drell, because an event where your reactions could give him Kepral's Syndrome if you do the wrong thing could be cool.

Nice work to the fan. Not quite my style though. They all look like they're ready to shank me.

What, even the one fiendishly brandishing the bladed weapon, lol?

I approve of the Quarian 100%, but I just freaking love trenchcoats and just loose, wavy clothing in general. Plus a Quarian infiltrator almost makes me wish we could play as other characters in the SP ala Dragon Age...almost, but not quite.

Krogan with a hammer has precedence in the series already so I approve, and a female Turian who is a biotic would be great. I'd rather have a Batarian than a Vorcha squadmate though. Humans and Batarians working together on a mission to preserve the future of both species, and countless others would be an amazing subplot between the MC and his Batarian squadmate. I'd like to see Batarians viewed in a positive light for once. They can't all be honorless slavers, and there are probably tens of thousands of humans in the ME series who are far worse scum than your stereotypical Batarian.

Nice ladies, sure, but where are my handsome lads? Krogan won't do it, sorry.

Not sure how the other games are better. After 3 games, Ashley is no more popular than those characters. And I still can't wrap my head around why anyone likes Liara in ME1, for example (just ME1, that is). She's written as obsessed...she barely gets to know you and comes off strong. I almost feel like I'm condescended to in that game -- like they view their fans as undersexed teen dorks who just want women to fall into their laps. I mean, maybe they're not thinking that, but it's how it seems. There's no effort or "getting to know" period at all. Not very realistic. It's almost like Bastila (no need to get to know you. She has a mystical "connection"), mixed with Conrad Verner.

This is the issue with nonlinear main story progression. Character arcs get compressed to accomodate the possibility of players doing them super late, and the result is a romance that doesn't quite feel earned.

Jade Empire has a similar problem, though it's less nonlinear progression and more the game just being so damn short.

At least alien to human ratio is a lot better than in any of the games.

But be warned, it contains Vin Diesel AND a Drell that is exactly Riddick.

Oh look, I found that Quarian's fedora.

"Ayngel".

That's a good point, I guess.

That was one of the things I liked about both hers and the Garrusmance. It felt like the characters actually had some history that fed into their actions instead of merely the 3 awkward conversations and "we'll bang ok", even though the only reason it ended up that way was because bioware figured birdman and bubblewoman wouldn't appeal to enough people to warrant devoting development time to them in the first game.

You can do a similar thing with Ash, Kaidan and Liara but it ends up playing out almost exactly the same as if you'd started it in the first game, except for not getting the sometimes comical cheating dialouge. I've never tried maleshep/Kaidan though, so I don't know if that one is different.

I still think there's depth to the ME2 ones, for what little dialogue there is. It's just subtle. Hooking up with a Cerberus chick is a problem in itself, depending on who you are. It says a lot about you if you got that far. While only some people are willing to see past Jack's barriers. She remains one of the least played romances, because people don't have time/tolerance for it. She's one of my favorites though. They all have a niche and are for specific players. Instead of just being instantly "good" for everyone.

I don't see how Tali is the best though. I'm a sensory/sensual person, for one. I don't neglect it in any aspect of life. Not with relationships.. or anything really. I work with my hands too. Not into the whole ideal of being strictly into someone's "spirit"/personality. That's nice, but not me. It's ultimately why I pick Destroy too.. The notion of "life" and existence is a sensual one to me.

It's not that different from a Femshep who never romanced Kaidan in ME1. He drops a few hints he like Shepard and then spills it all on the Citadel date... how he has been alone all the time Shep has known him etc. and he wants to find someone. It's kinda sweet but you miss out on a lot of interaction early in the game if you don't romance him in ME1

If you use the console to romance Kaidan as a male Shep in ME1, almost all the dialogue is in there for both of them in ME2 and early ME3 but then at the date scene they both get amnesia and pretend they were never together.

That's a problem with Liara in ME3 as well, I believe. The Citadel date rings oddly like two people getting together for the first time.

Sorry, I dislike them all, with their cheesy "gothic/emo" outifts, looking like they've just stepped out of Mass Effect equivalent of the Matrix.

Volus were stupid in ME3 multiplayer but I could accept that for the fun of it but not as part of the story, it's dumb. And there's no way you'd get a yahg as a squadmate.

I have to admit I always wanted a female turian squadmate outside of ME3's Omega dlc. She's the only thing I like about this squad.

The rest just makes me cringe.

What the actual f is this? It's so awful, I can almost hear the whiney emo music bleeding through the picture.

Jack in ME2 was bad enough but I still liked her because her character was well done and not made by a teenager.

I just looked at this, and some of those designs are not to my taste (I'm putting it politely because I'm trying to be a nice guy. But a katana... honestly...).

But... one or two of those pictures are actually fairly cool.

Not the ones including hats, swords and an abundance of tribal tattoos, incidentally.

I like Torvin the Salarian and Scotty the Keeper.

That's actually funny.  I thought that while it was cool to see a turian female, she was one of the worst.  Of course, I know that it takes more than a "save everybody or die trying" attitude to win over a street gang.

Add in an Elcor or young Rachni Queen to that lineup and I would consider it.

And don't go all "But those races would never work." on me either, if we can have freaking space ninjas running around, and a volus with a minigun, we can have a space sloth or space bug.  B)

no, of course it's utterly subjective. Different strokes for different folks or whatever. Unless you are just speaking from a pure amount of content perspective to define "best", in which case Liara wins and all the new ME2 characters that aren't Miranda lose.

Self-titled specialist. Can blow himself up in his loyalty mission if you aren't babysitting him.

. . .I'd recruit that.

. ..and the original squad mentioned here is lacking in Krogan. It need more. All of them, Krogan.

More content is overrated.
