Secret Identity

Public Identity

So if you were a superhero which would you choose?

A secret identity or a public identity?

What do you think?

Public would be preferred for me. I just wouldn't enjoy having to deceive others about who I am.

Though secret might be more sensible.

Doesn't matter, it depends on the hero and if they want to risk assassination.

Usually secret identities are more for protecting friends and family rather than protecting the hero or villain.

Good point. Some Superheroes don't have a regular joe alter ego anyway.

Thor can't stop being Thor. (Except in the comics where he has a regular joe alter ego).

In the films he is far to busy fighting battles to take time off. So in his case he doesn't have the luxury of living a normal life. This debate would be irrelevant to him.

Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has no loved ones to protect since they are either dead (because of old age) or they're capable of defending themselves. Also everyone already knows who he is. Heck there is even a museum exhibit on him.

However if you want an example why having a secret identity is a good idea, Iron Man 3 demonstrates it quite well.

Seriously though, I think the secret identity is better because it gives you protection and it gives the people you care about protection as well. This subject will be the main element that will drive the plot of "Captain America: Civil War".

Depends. But not having one could lead to some people want them to be archived or registered. And we all know how that ends........RIP Cap A

Captain America: Civil War isn't dealing with secret identities, since the heroes didn't bother with it in the MCU. It will deal with superheroes being registered with government entities regarding their actions as superheroes.

No, I'm pretty sure, With Spider-Man thrown at the mix and potentially Daredevil, I think the MCU is starting to recognize secret identities and how the government shouldn't be allowed to control the registry of superheroes. The S.H.I.E.L.D. index for example. And it will also explore how public identity came back to bite the heroes in the ass. Specially Tony, MORE than once.

Well they both kind of tie into each other considering once you're registered your identity is known.

Well I don't want spiteful criminals or supervillains to murder my family and friends, so a secret identity would work well I think.

Question has Civil War spoiler.

Spoiler

Aunt May gets shot by an assassin hired by The Kingpin.

This would be effective if Peter didn't sell his marriage with MJ to Mephisto (Who is basically The Devil) to save her and rewrite history so a fat guy ruined their wedding.

I'd do both?

I mean, I'd want to register with the government and be a paid, identity-protected agent. It's a job, you have benefits, you don't fight with the government and your identity is a secret. Like a CIA agent, but with super powers.

The part Civil War (comics) ran into problems was that EVERYONE had to do this. Forced conscription for life is not exactly going to charm people out of their pants.

I'd keep my identity secret unless the powers I have wouldn't allow it.

Secret identity. I would't want to indanger my family, risk being killed in my sleep, crazy stalkers or risk someone spitting in my food when i picked up a burger. The only big issue is I'd actually like to get paid so I wouldn't be doing hero work and a day job. Well unless my power was super genius level intelligence like Stark. In that case though if I wanted to help people I can't help but think inventing things to help the economy and better equip the police would be the way to go.
