So apparently Commander Shepard wont be apart of Mass Effect 4, I read a article saying there would be a new hero but still focusing on the core that is Mass Effect. My question is isn't Shepard kinda the core of the game since all three were about him saving the galaxy?
mass effect 4 question.

Also I have played games where they tried to take a new direction like they are doing here and it failed horribly.

This is really old news, Shepard is not "the universe", he was a central figure of a single era and his story has ended. Time to move on and experience new stories from new perspectives

They really have to. Here's why.
Well here are the tropes used, and they indicate that it is time to move on.
1) Mass Effect: Disney Death - The crew stands around moping when Anderson shows up, then Shepard emerges hobbling from the rubble.
2) Mass Effect 2: No One Could Have Survived That: Shepard is literally killed by the enemy, then burns up in the atmosphere of Alchera only to be brought back to life again by Cerberus in the Lazarus Project game moments later
3) Mass Effect 3: No One Could Have Survived That: Shepard is blasted by Harbinger on his/her way to the beam, only to get up and limp onward, saved by Plot Armor.
4) Mass Effect 3: No One Could Have Survived That: If you chose the high EMS Destroy ending, Shepard still runs toward the exploding tube. The Citadel explodes as it's mass relay is severely damaged, but after the memorial scene, the camera pans through the rubble to see Shepard's torso take a gasp of air indicating that he or she survived.
Let Shepard be dead already. Her life sucked. Let her rest in peace.
Also Shepard's LI if taken on the beam run suffers the No One Could Have Survived That trope as the APC flies through the air and lands on them, severely injuring them so that the Normandy has to come down from the skies for the rescue - sitting right in front of Harbinger who has a major attack of stupid.
