Sorry, but I have to disagree. Soloing is not a "good way to show a working build" in a multiplayer game. In my videos, I often am soloing through some of the content so I can get a few clips of the abilities being used "in a vaccuum" (so to speak) so I can chop them up in between the skill tree and talking. I then may have solo gameplay further (on Routine, mind you) for background as I explain strategy or make snarky comments, but not to show how good the build works.
Admittedly, this is because many of the builds I use are devised for specific roles, and not the typical "rush-in-and-bash-things" for which everyone looks. Getting a team together to demonstrate a role properly is tedious since my "team" has moved on to other games. Most of the experienced players that I can party with now are either unwilling to play a specific role for the sake of demonstration or are frankly not skilled enough to put themselves in a role and stick to it when things get hectic.
I have been playing DAIMP since the minute the server went online, and yet I still try to cater my content to the "any-player" (meaning as neutral on gear and promotions as possible). I also play PuG matches most of the time.
Oh course, I also don't play the "meta" game. I don't try to make videos showcasing the "optimal" builds that everyone else uses (although I think I have a couple of times), so I guess it's easier for me to not rely on gear and promotions.
Honestly, if I did not know them all, I might be inclined to buy into the "frienemy" conspiracy. I mean, what better way to get more publicity than a little drama?
Unfortunately, I'll be completely honest in saying that Penguin, Drasca, and myself all have a bit of an ego problem, which has lead to a lot of friction. All of us are "right", and none of us want to concede. Of course, Drasca and Penguins seem to be at odds to a much greater degree than either of them with me, which I suppose makes less stress for me.
I respect your opinion and you certainly have the right to disagree. A solo vid for me is a way to showcase how a specific character can survive when the odds are stacked against you, like when the majority of your party members are down and you're left to carry the rest of your group at least up to the next zone, which seems to happen a lot in my experience. It's not always the best build in a team setting but it's a good basis and you can tweak it in a way that works for you. Of course, that's just my opinion.
I never looked at solo vids as bragging unless the maker of the video comes in and tells everyone else that they suck because they can't solo the way he did. The player Amnesia...something...weedy? (PC) was a good example of this a while back lol.
I've watched a couple of your vids some time ago where you had a nice, clear voice over explaining why you picked the skills and passives you had. It gives new players ideas and at the same time doesn't dictate what they should do. That, to me, is the making of a great guide.
While I don't necessarily agree with some of your choices, I also would never go into your thread and bash your build because I can see it works for you. Making something work for you is more important than using someone else's "optimal build" and not get it to work because of a difference in play style. Of course, someone will come in and yell "L2P you fool!" but I largely ignore those people.
It's a pity we're not on the same platform. I would've loved to test your team oriented builds with you. I also play PuG matches most of the time
