Fright Night was good at least.

I'd argue better than the original in alot of ways.

 

Yeah, it wasn't trying to ape the original like so many remakes, but did it's own thing with it and rather well?

 

I also liked how the mother in the remake wasn't completely clueless and actually listened to her son when he kept telling her not let Jerry in, so she decided not to... forcing Jerry to get around the invitation rule by blowing up the house to force them outside.

 

Kinda undermined because the trailer spoiled that particular twist, but it was still extremely clever and made a lot of sense within the rules set by the film. Also made me wonder why don't more Vampires do that sort of thing whenever the invite rule happens to apply to them?

He was never an actor. The joke fails on so many levels we needed to invent new levels for the joke to fail on!

I'm not a tween Kaiser, I don't know what the kids are into. But it's not Justin Bieber of all things.

 

Except the only remake Jaden was in was The Karate Kid. Which originally had a White guy. That might just be the most racist statement I've actually have read on this forum in a long time actually.

I don't like Jaden Smith either, but that's no reason to typecast the kid as "Black Protagonist"

Critical Success aside, my personal guess is it boils down to money - Sequels & Reboots clearly had success with their predecessors, so it's a safer bet to invest in that than something that's, you know, original in its Intellectual Property. On the other hand, they *could* put a spin on an old idea that hasn't been seen before...

But not likely with this. Looks okay and has plenty of action, but doesn't drive me to see it.

Hollywood movies are part of what is now an infantilized, introverted, morally hopeless, post exploration, post rational culture and the movie industry is gripped tightly about the throat by risk in everything it does.

 

So we get reboots, and we get shite. Same thing has happened in music.

 

The good news is that talented people rebel against this sort of thing and subvert it, as has happened in other arts (and the gaming industry) because when you get right down to it, crap is crap is crap and talented people don't like to make crap.
