Next couple of runs, nightmare 2 questions

I haven't done this yet, so I am going to do it.  I mean I am starting my 7th and 8th runs and I do craft now, etc.

 

1. Has anyone tried a build similar to this: Blackwall 2 hand warrior for earthshattering strike, Iron Bull with earthshattering strike, whirlwind and ring of pain and Solas with pull of the abyss and firestorm.  I am thinking about a rogue with hail of arrows or possibly a third 2 hander for a third earthshattering strike plus Templar skills.  Just seems like that would be a lot of fun to watch.

 

2. How is nightmare with friendly fire as I really want to try that on the last play-through as I think that will finish all the romances?  I have only played on casual with friendly fire to this point and have seen a mage with fire mine and immolate literally wipe my party out very easily.

FF punishes some powers and compositions more than others.  All ranged party will rarely be affected, but on the other hand some of the best warrior abilities do FF (Charging Bull, Mighty Blow, Wrath of Heaven), so limiting warrior number (like one SnS + ranged) makes it easier to manage.  Mixed bag for mages as you can still get good damage and CC just picking non-FF powers.

 

I did a run where I just didn't set any power to active that could cause FF, and mainly let the AI run their own characters.  Mainly built around the non-FF powers, and there are in fact enough options going that way to get through the game fairly painlessly.  Doing that you can mix in the FF powers as needed.
