It sucks, but that's the world we live in. People get off behaving like scum bags and pieces of ****.http://www.imdb.com/.../board/threads/
Just looked up this production. It's a movie about cancer and to raise awareness and I stumbled into the forum page and OMG I am genuinely disappointed with the attitude of some people.
I followed this story and it made my day watching this all happen but go to a page like that and seeing people rip into this kid and each other... Yeah humanity we totally do not rock as a species.
I am a little disgusted with people.

People at large are simply stupid. Sadly that is nothing new and even more sadly is that won't change anytime soon. At least not until the education system is effective enough to hammer out the behavioural nonsense some parents teach their kids (or in most cases, don't teach their kids) to raise a whole generation that can be good parents and that the couple current generations and some of their really stubborn mindsets pass away so that the newcomers aren't going to have to conform to a majority of shortsighted and bigoted social norms. And about two generations after that, with kids having been brought up by good parents, a good educational system and no grumpy old people with a mindset stuck a couple decades behind, then we can go look ahead.
That's not to say there's good people/parents/teachers around, but they are mere drops on a hot stone right now.
Oh, and it's the internet
Well that's a paradox right there. As people get older they get more set in their ways/stubborn... ![]()

So the solution to humanities problems is to feed children propaganda until they think whatever their betters want them to think? People who supposedly "know better" than all of the generations of the past?
That's one of the same goals as any number of authoritarian regimes that have existed during the course of history. Who decides what will be taught?

I don't know, warm water plumbing, medicine, industrial farming, efficient transportation means, and a more or less dependable law enforcement agency able to provide assistance in over 95% of the geographical landmass?
I think that outweighs a few crappy folks on the internet.

Well that's a paradox right there. As people get older they get more set in their ways/stubborn...
The problem is we still have a lot of people stuck in bigoted, unfairly discriminating and sometimes downright racist mindsets. And as you correctly recognized, that mindset won't change easily, foremostly because that generation likewise tends to not be very receptive to the contrary.

That response is so hilariously biased, I almost feel compelled to argue instead of feeling put off by the implication of me being an authoritatian propaganda supporter. Almost ...

None of the above mentioned are provided on anywhere near 95% of this planet's geographical landmass.

The issue with this is who gets to decide who's bigoted/racist. You can stretch and twist those words pretty far. Some of the crazies on places like Tumblr are doing that as we speak. Surely you wouldn't want people like that to control the school system.
