That looks like Valeska's Watch. Your minimap compass should ping on the opposite side of the clearing, leading you to the remains of a campfire and a corpse. The corpse has a key which begins the quest.

 

Sorry, never mind. I see by the location map that's nowhere near Valeska's Watch. Did you find it while completing Rocky Rescue or Red Captors? If so, I think that door is just there for scenery. I've never been able to interact with it.

Actually, it's not Valeska. This door is way down low at the map, behind the quarrys. I've always wondered about this door, as well. It just seems to be there for no reason. At least I haven't found away to open it in all my 6 playthroughs.

Maybe they were going to put a dungeon or something there but ran out of time (or there was a problem and they had to move something or take it out). Or it could have been a world map waypoint that got deleted or isn't hooked up right.

They seem to have been fairly good about not putting in phantom doors that have no use just for scenery, so my suspicion would be that it had a purpose at some point.

There are many doors spread across the game that cannot be opened and/or interacted with. They probably had plans for the doors to be apart of something but either forgot or ran out of time.

I have no idea how many times I've drowned or roasted trying to reach that thing.  That, and the sack on the wall in Redcliffe are still driving me crazy.

I actually got up those and into halfway up but always drop down after that. They're just practically taunting you to try.

There is a way around and up, but you can never reach the ladder though, it's in the wall. But there is a big part of the map that is unfinished over there. Not easy to get to though

Yeah, the ladder is inside the wall, true, but I managed to make my inky use them by clicking the 'f' in a certain angle. Looked odd and funny, though.
