Hello there. I just finished playing entire Mass Effect series with all of their DLCs and Extended ending and became a huge fan. As a sci-fi buff especially space opera buff  I loved the extending over arching storyline from first to last game (although I did not find it very original. Being a sci fi buff I could see Babylon 5 , Farscape and Star Trek influences. It was like a mix of all three) , character progress , artwork , voice acting and game production...Change of gameplay controls especially from first game to second was annoying but I got used to it. I also liked the ending(s) , they were like closing chapters of a saga in a series (I know a Mass Effect 4 is coming but with complately different characters , time and place in the same universe created. I hope there are some throw backs to initial games though like mentioning a character or event)

Usually an unoriginal storyline especially in same genre bores me and I really dislike rip offs or constantly repreating elements. That being said Mass Effect game series story so far never made me feel this way. I felt entertained and intrigued and excited to see what is next. It is as if writers took Babylon 5 storyline and its in-universe technology and expanded them and then added character development and aestetic artwork of Farscape and added a few items from Star Trek to create Mass Effect world. Being a fan of all these three franchises though I am not complaining because writers in this game series although added fun element also took themselves seriously , added drama and realism in character wise like moral choices and their after effects in a game..I would say the result is  a high quality work.

Thank you for reading. This game franchise continues I hope...

This really isn't a review. More of a statement of feeling and telling people that you like other franchises and this one. Just saying.

It's his first post. Let him have this one.

Reviews are subjective anyway. You can do multi-step analyses and assign arbitrary numbers to things, but at the end of the day it's still opinion.

Eh, there's no reflection here. No meat or grits to get into or discuss.

I'm a heckler for those things.

Even if it does make me seem like a cloudy ******* to say 'that's great but grown-ups are talking' to the new guy. Call it a personality flaw.

Are you planning on doing another playthrough? If so, will you make different choices from your first playthrough?

Hey there!

I finished my first playthrough recently as well. Last week, more specifically. Loved it, absolutely adored it. The characters, the universe... I'm going to get the comics and novels to dive more into the lore, and I've started already my second playthrough. I've had my fair share of gaming, but I don't know how it took me so long to play Mass Effect. It has become my favourite game of all time, without question. No other game has made me get so much into the story and the lore. Plus, there are so many different choices that I'm sure I'll play the games... well, many times. Let's leave it at that, LOL.

Welcome to Mass Effect Obsessives Anonymous.  Most of us have been curled up in a ball rocking ourselves back and forth as we wait for news of ME:Next.

Oh good, wouldn't want a review from someone who's not a ME fan.

On a sidenote, ME is one of the best franchises I've come across, I just wish I'd first played it years earlier.

Welcome to the forums :) it's true that there are many aspects of other literary and television works in Mass Effect, especially the first game, but this is largely intentional, meant as a tribute of sorts to some of the classics.

I'm sure you can find the proper discussions with "grown-ups" in other threads. Or if you've exhausted them all, create your own. It's not really a great way to greet a new person to our forums (even despite his completely inexcusable use of the word "review").

Dam, whenever I hear of someone playing the trilogy for the first time, I want one of these MIB memory-flash-thingies, just so I can do it all again for the first time as well.

Anyway, welcome to the forums OP, I see you already got a good dose of BSN's famous hospitality. Isn't it heartwarming? ;)

I've thought of that myself. And then I always wonder... let's say I flashed my memory and played again. Would I always make the same choices with a first Shepard? And then I get annoyed because I'm never gonna know that.

This game franchise continues I hope...

There is another Mass Effect game in the works, though it won't be a continuation of Commander Shepard's story. Beyond that no confirmed details on plot or setting have been released yet. The best guess is that they'll probably start up the hype train at E3, since the game has been in the works since at least 2012.

I was trying to figure out where on these forums to post almost this exact same thing.  I just started the ME Trilogy a couple months ago and have been playing them as often as I can.  Last night I finally, finally finished Mass Effect 3 and I was left with this weird feeling of emptiness at having completed something I loved so much and wishing I could just keep going (there's probably a German word for this feeling).

Thank you..yes a welcome as warm as weather in Noveria. Sorry I did not realize using term "Review " would cause so much stress. I revised it as Thoughts in title. I hope that settles the matter. Since English is not my native language I  can make mistakes like that , sensitive to semantics..

I restarted replaying entire game series right now and somehow I must have done something correct during my initial gameplay since I get killed very quick this time several times and find it harder to pass levels..

Don't worry, there's always that one guy on the internet :)

I'm guessing you played a Soldier on your first playthrough? That class has passive health regen in the first game, so if you're used to that and are now trying out one of the lighter-armoured classes, like Adept or Engineer, it would explain why you feel more suspectible to, well, dying. Any other class than Soldier will not regain health between fights, so you have to keep an eye on that and use medi-gel when necessary :) also, the first Mass Effect can be very harsh in the early levels. Once you get better equipment and weapons, the difficulty quickly starts to drop. It's a bit unfortunate it wasn't balanced better, but just keep at it and it'll soon get easier :) alternatively, you can always lower the difficulty setting - unless you're going for the achievement tied to completing at a certain difficulty level, of course.

Thanks... I play as Infiltrator this time (first time I played as Soldier as you said) and raised the difficulty one level up at the beginning (one level below Insanity) and Krogan mercs and Husks I encountered in ME1 became much harder to kill. I spray them with improved ammunition bullets and they continue to charge. Besides this time to open new conversations I started with the missions I had complated last during my initial playthrough like Xawin to find Garoth's brother. Two Krogans always corner me there.

Just a tip...if you ever switch to Vanguard, don't get too frustrated if you die a lot in ME2 & 3 (but mostly in 2 & ME3MP). It's the most difficult class by far.

Though after level 10 or so armor mods that regen health will start dropping. Once you have one of those you'll only need medi-gel during combat.

The soldier is by far the most durable class in ME1. Heavy armor, shield regen, health regen, immunity, medigel - they make it fairly easy to tank as a soldier. With any other class, you'll need to stay out of the line of fire a bit more than you did as a soldier.

That depends on how you play it. If you charge into the middle of big groups of enemies / turrets, then yeah, it's easy to killed a lot. You can also play Vanguard as mostly caster, and stay in cover until the enemies have been whittled down, or separated into smaller groups.

You can also buy the initial First Aid Interface from Dr. Michel - which I usually do for non-soldier characters.

Good point. It'll probably take most of your cash at that point unless you're doing a lot of Citadel SQs before heading out, but having one of the things is worth it.

Vanguard as a caster isn't a Vanguard...it's just an Adept with Shockwave.

Vanguards CHARGE. That's the way it's played. Although the way you soften a group of enemies before doing it is your choice. It also helps a careful strategy, I think that even more than with other classes. Things like flanking enemies, steal their cover and hunt down lone wolves are almost basic.

Vanguard have the ability to CHARGE. They also have other abilities which can be used strategically to set up optimal opportunities to CHARGE.

Which was my only point. The Vanguard charge is an incredibly fun gameplay mechanic, but needs to be used judiciously.

Never got that mindset. You fit all Vanguards into narrow limitations of charge mechanic. The defining characteristic of "canon" Vanguard playstyle is aggressiveness and you can be aggressive without using Charge.

So N7 Fury's are Vanguards now, too? :D
