Of course not. I have yet to see a Slayer who doesnt die every 2 seconds on Gold if they have Biotic Charge, or who doesnt just hide behind a wall and spam Biotic Slash all match. Neither way is preferable and it is by far the most underpowered class i know of. Cool concept in every way but it just doesnt work. Try and prove me wrong if you wish but ive been trying to make that character work in every conceivable set-up since it came out...and everytime i see a Slayer in the lobby i sigh since i know he will be dead for 90% of the match or he will be a screen-shaking spam-coward 

 

 

It has to be played on-host for maximum efficiency though.

It's one of the flithiest kits in multiplayer. Acolyte, phase disruptor a few times, charge, dodge, wash, rinse, repeat. Slayer sucks ass off host because you cannot fire phase disruptor as fast and charge is hit or miss but a well played slayer on host is damn near impossible to outscore because of how fast they can kill whole spawns of mooks. 

 

This is always why it feels my Slaying is so weaksauce.  Firing PD in a granny gear just doesn't wreck shite very efficiently above Silver for me.

Eh. Stay here a while and you'll learn, I guess. Others have started to show what I mean already. Oh and about the acolyte... Apart from the silliness of refusing to use the means to make a character powerful and then calling it underpowered... The best way of playing the slayer is actually with a talon and disruptor ammo. I hope you can at least accept that loadout XD

Also regarding the sword, his light melee gives a hell of a lot DR, which coupled with DR you get from charge means that all the damage you take is reduced by something like 97.5%. Due to the rounding of numbers, it means that a Cerberus turret effectively does 0 damage to you. Okay, it might not be the most effective way of playing him, but it's a lot of fun and can be very useful as an " oh ****" button.

Bottom line: do not judge a kit by what pugs can do with it

And that is the essential think about the slayer. Off host it`s good, on host it can be god tier. The off host issues is prob why it manages to stay off most "this-kit-is-so-op-its-broken" lists

Yeah i'm serious, that extra bit of health has saved me a number of times. Why would I need decoy when I can cloak to remove aggro or use combat drone to distract an enemey e.g. Phantoms. Combat drone is a much better decoy anyway

Combat Drone is better but it's not much better - they're effectively the same power, just with different range capabilities.  Asking why you would need a decoy when you have all those other things is like asking why you need gravy on your steak - you don't, but it's a whole lot better with it.  Fitness points are generally a placebo above Silver, and are particularly so on the Volus characters.  I would honestly struggle to imagine or believe in a scenario on higher levels where 825 shields has any practical benefit over 500. The guy is already almost immortal, after all.

 

A Geth Prime doesn't need a turret and a drone, but he has them both, and a Volus Merc is one of the greatest characters for getting genuine payback on those cheap cheating scumbags.  Two staggering powers and a stagger-capable weapon (if not using a Saber for style) with stagger-capable ammo is more fun than most other options in this game.  Yo Dawg, yeah, I do like some stagger, especially against Geth.  I'll admit that he does a little less well against the other factions, but damage output is always better than notional or imaginary survivability.   

 

Imagine turning up at a Volus Merc Party.  It needs 8 little guys for it to feel right.  Do you really want to be the one there who doesn't have a +1 with him?  Awkward....

Wat? I Chargesurf all the time on xbox. In fact I Chargesurf so much I don't have time for pesky powers like Lash. :-)

 

I tried doing it for ten minutes last night and couldn't get it to work - melee never happened once the charge animation began. Apparently I'm doing it wrong.

I just want to be shooting or casting Overload/Incinerate instead of casting Turret/Drone.

ED - biggest letdown in the game. Doesn't work reliably for combos and I rather dodge than use it for refilling shields. Its stagger has some use, though. Actually, its lower CD might make it a bit more useful than Sabotage.
