Reinstalled Origins UE recently.  I recently had to factory restart my computer due to some viruses that got onboard, and I lost all of my DAO and FO3 mods.

I don't want a ton of mods, just the Fade Skip, maybe the camp chest.....

But....do the mods cause viruses to happen?

It's possible for someone to hide malware in any piece of software.

Some might have them packed in there. But if they're from the Nexus I would doubt it. At least in the more popular ones, and I'm sure you would have heard about it.

You never know though.....

Craaap.

So if I reinstall some mods, I may corrupt my PC again?

Fade Skip *sobs*

That little mod cuts out like an hour of the most useless gameplay ever

No one said that. We just said it's possible.

I would highly doubt if Skip the Fade is virus riddled if downloaded from the Nexus. Otherwise you would have heard about it. The best thing is to make sure you have a decent virus and malware protection set up with regular scans. And to make sure you download things from reputable sites.

It's possible, but very, VERY unlikely that a mod downloaded from the Nexus that has literally hundreds of thousands of downloads has something shady hidden in it and nobody has noticed.

Solution is easy enough. If you fear a virus hidden in a mod, manually download it and have your antivirus scan the downloaded file.

Ahhhhhhh ok.

How would I scan an idividual file? :)

I mean I only use popular mods like the Fade Skip, or,.... I think Pineapple's...hair mods, stuff that literally has thousands of hits

In Windows, right click on the mod icon and select "Scan file with Microsoft Security Essentials" or similar.

In essence, that. Though I would hope everyone is using something better than MSE ;)

"do mods cause viruses to happen?"

That doesn't really make any sense. But if you are asking if mods can have viruses? Answer is yes. Anything you download from the Internet can be packed in with trojans/malware/adware/virsues. Even simple pictures.

There's no 100% safe way to go around with these kinds of things, but you can reduce the risk by sticking with sites with good reputation or invest in some good security. Doesn't really matter which, all security programs have their own weaknesses and strengths.
