I understand this is a business and they need to make money, but why has the game series I love wimped out? They (the Devs) are so frightened of offending someone they took away what made these games engaging. If some people are so easily offended by nudity, romances scenes or character development this series was once known for I suggest they go play old maid instead and leave Mature minded gamers alone. Sermon ended.
Why have the Dev's caved?

Alright badly expressed. Im actually talking about Mature approach to gamers not nudity or romances in game. If you have played DAO it was racier than DAI, and the relationships were more fleshed out, this is my disappointment with DAI how these are handled or rather not due to fear of offending someones sensibilities.

I highly doubt it's about fear of offending someone and about the romance not fleshed out enough. Do remember that there's way more romances in the game than any of the previous games and to have them all at the same context level say DA:O takes a lot of work and resources. The writers did what they could in the time they had. I'm pretty sure that they would happily write a books worth of romance for every character there is.

How were the romances in DA:O "rancier"? Their sexual scenes were infamously known for the participants wearing their underwear during the scenes with Morrigan even putting on a bra. In the other sexual situations like the brothel, they faded to black. It was the same in DA:II both with the brothel and romances. In DA:I, we were first introduced to scenes in which our companions and potentially Inquisitor appear nude regardless of gender.
Of course, I could be misremebering but...

Nostalgic bias. People who think DAO was racier were probably not used to sexual relationships in a game at the time. Given that DAO broke barriers in that regard, I don't think it's really surprising.
But seriously... underwear.

I had no problem with the underwear since the romances in DAO were better made than in DAI.

Origins remains the only game I have ever installed a nude mod for. I just couldn't cope with the underwear sex any longer.
Meanwhile, DAI gives us Dorian's glorious arse. I think it's well ahead on raciness.

Unfortunately it appears Witcher 3 has also gone this route. In Witcher 2 there was full frontal nudity and so far in W3 the women have been wearing undergarments although I am not that far into the game. We did get to see Yennifer nude from the back but that was it.

I don't think it's about pleasing the fans, because no matter what they do or don't put in, someone's not going to like it. It's not really even about pleasing the censors (Fox News), because at this point, they are big enough to get away with it, probably. It's about putting out a product that they want to sign their names to. As a company, they decided that the degree of nudity and sexual innuendo was what they were happy with. Granny pants and grinding are ugly and obvious, and they mostly eliminated them. In return, we got a pretty realistic depiction of relationships between people who want to get it on. I think that's a more than adequate substitution. There's enough there. When I romance Blackwall, I don't like to linger too long over party selection, because my partner might think I'm drooling over his tarot card and feel jealous. There really isn't anything there that would offend any sensors, just a man's torso and a woman's arm, nowhere near anything racy. The image is very effective though, almost pornographic.
I'm sorry you found the romances disappointing. I guess it's kinda like I feel about the Necromancer specialization. I was hyped on the buildup and saved that playthrough for when I knew what I was doing so I could appreciate it, then found out it wasn't anything like I thought it would be and took approval hits from companions for choosing it. Even though the inquisitor was one that I modeled on one of my friends and Hawke actually looked just like another one, I might as well delete the character, because she's pretty much ruined in terms of how I feel about her. The only reason I haven't is that I keep hoping they'll realize the impact wasting how much time to be locked into a specialty you can't stand detracts from the desire to play the game as a whole and figure out a way to let you change it. They don't care, since they've already sold the game, so they won't, and I'm not sorry I bought it, since there are still 7 specializations I'll play, but neither will I forget that I wasn't warned about the approval thing first. I haven't tried the reaver spec, and now I doubt I will. I'm not crazy about playing a warrior anyway, because of the whole boredom thing. Hack, slash, repeat. If the companion's have anything to say about my choices, I'll stick to ones that don't offend.

Don't worry, there are plenty of [exposed female breasts] waiting for you later on in the game.

That's a lot of nipples.
Add in the desire demons and Origins nipple count goes through the roof. /mature

I actually found the DAI Romances I've pursued (haven't explored all of them yet. I'll get there eventually...) to be more realistic than the DAO ones. (Although I enjoyed DA2, it was flawed in so many ways that I don't even count the LI's among the important aspects.)
In DAI, ya' gotta commit before the other party will, others recognize, and respect, the relationship, and the various intimate convos add to the depth. (Ok, I admit I never got a tingle from Big Al, or Fenris. The former seemed too naïve for my taste, and the later too conflicted.)

The only thing I miss about the previous games are the female desire demons...I mean they didn't care what you called them and would feel themselves up during the conversation.
They’re male counterpart on the other hand was entirely.....inadequate. ![]()

I agree and at times I don't think people will be satisfied with how "mature" a Dragon Age game is until it gets rated AO.
