Merrill VS Solas
Who would you rather have in your party? Both are written well and are interesting in their own way. I personally enjoyed both characters very much but how about you?

Solas. Easily. XD I liked Merrill and all but my Hawke had issues with her at times. Solas... well he's not pefect either, obviously, but my Inquisitor was kinda naive in that regard. ;D

Solas. I think Merrill was just adorkable so this isn't a knock on her but I totally prefer Solas. He was a fascinating character, with his erudite demeanour, his casual racism (!!), and his unique views on the Fade. Plus, y'know, the ending.

Out of all of Bioware's characters that I've gotten to know throughout various games, Merrill is my least favorite so Solas wins by default. I really like Solas's voice, his stories about the Fade, and his relationship with Cole. I guess the rest of him is alright, too.

I think Merrill?
She was pretty young in DA2 ...I guess if we ever see her again she's going to be a bit different.
Solas is full of s*** , great character but he's got his own agenda , knowledge he's not willing to share ,and for somebody who's thousands of years old ...I wouldn't call him wise.
Merrill was pretty straightforward with what she was doing , she didn't see the big picture ...but as prideful and naive as she sometimes could be , you could trust her.
She was refreshing compared to Solas , Morrigan , Anders etc...
She had a somewhat dangerous plan in mind with the mirror but she told you "ok it's dangerous , it could go wrong, I don't know everything".
The others are all like "Hey I need your help and you need to trust me , but don't ask me questions about what I'm doing because err...well just don't ask."

I love Merrill she is so sweet and funny I always had her in my party as hawke. solas I leave at skyhold as he tends to drag the group down with his thats not how elvs should be crap..I keep dorian with me most of the time. I would love to have sweet beautiful merrill back

Solas. He may be an arrogant, hypocritical *******, but at least he has common sense. Merrill was an all around idiot who could have prevented a lot of tragedy had she just listened to others instead of being "little-miss-know-it-all."

It's a tough one. I think Merrill had a more interesting quest story and was funnier. Solas had the fascinating reveal at the end. I have only just finished the game but will play through again paying much more attention to Solas to see how well the writers drop clues along the way.

Solas because at least he doesn't encourage you to do deals with demons. Spirits can read your mind, so they know if you are going to try and trick them. So trying to play them as Merrill seemed to advocate is nonsense. However, I will admit that at least Merrill is pretty straight with you. Solas takes the prize for the most evasive, equivocating companion ever.
