Richard Prince, a kinda-sorta-not-really famous artist known for appropriating photographs held an exhibit at the Gagosia Gallery recently, where he displayed and sold pictures taken from Instagram users (without their knowledge or permission, because of course) for upwards of $90,000 a pop. Keep in mind, this guy has been stealing other peoples' work and passing it off as his for the past 40 years, yet since "heheh, it's art!" is somehow a valid court defense, he is unable to really be sued over it despite people attempting it in the past.
Because this is what art has become. The definition of the term has become so diluted and watered down by ***holes who want to call themselves creative, that it has literally become extended to theft (then again, a guy can literally smear his feces on a canvas, call it art, and have it sell for an obscene amount of money). Incidentally, I think it's hilarious that his name is "D*** Prince".
