I am having the same problem as this poster with Radcliffe

http://forum.bioware...e-attack-on-pc/

I'm lvl 8 and playing as a human noble rogue with:

- Alistair as tank,

Leniana as Rogue

Morrigan as dps

I swapped Morrigan with Wynn but all that does is make the fight last a little longer. So i am thinking of doing some side quests to get to higher lvl before i try again. Any advice on which to do to gain a couple of lvls the only one i seem to be offered is the soldiers peak one.

A follow up question if i leave a party member back in camp for a bit. Will i find they are 2 or 3 lvls below the rest of the party if i take them back into the party later.

Have you done the various job board quests?

Party members left at camp do not gain XP per se, but they will "catch up" (i.e. they will gain XP so that they are at most one level behind you).

Interestingly, nightmare difficulty might make things EASIER for you. Difficulty effects all NPC's stats... That includes NPC's on your own side, not just enemies. I've found the villagers and knights put up one hell of a fight on nightmare, to the point that they're actually a significant help at killing the undead with you instead of just being a burden. The easier the difficulty, the easier the villagers are killed and the worse the get their butts kicked. Putting on casual might make you able to survive for yourself, but you'll lose people of Redcliffe for sure. Nightmare will mean you'll get valuable help from them and them having the stats to dish out and take quite a bit of damage.

Unless you're already playing on nightmare?

I have done all the quests in Lothering the same with the Mage tower and the fade.  The only obvious quest i can see is the soldiers peak one in camp. I can try playing on Nightmare at the moment i am playing on Hard.

But funny enough after another mass death in Radcliffe i thought about playing on an easier lvl. Only to find i had actually fought the battle on easy :)

Ooh, thats an interesting suggestion. Might have to try that next time I play the game

And that might be your problem right there. Easy just makes the villagers wimpy as limp wristed children.

I'll put it this way, I haven't had a single villager die in a number of of playthroughs since I've started doing it on nightmare. And that's even when forcing Lloyd's useless ass out the door to help defend the village... Not to say it's easy, saving him is quite difficult. But he's the only one I even need to worry about, and he's optional. The rest of the villagers hold their own quite well even when I'm babysitting Lloyd.

Granted I do a lot of preparation first. I put all the cold iron (extra damage to undead) I can on everyone and flame runes to fill in the extra rune spots leftover (undead take extra damage from fire), I bring a minimum of 2 warriors and set them to CONSTANTLY taunt enemies and to have threaten on at all times (3 warriors if my own Warden is one), bring a mage with both haste and fire enchant and make sure they have no area-of-effect attacks so they don't accidentally hit villagers with magic... I really prepare for it. So it isn't just me playing on nightmare. But that difficulty certainly helps a ton.

Lose Leliana and add your choice of Wynne, Sten, or Shale. I'd suggest Wynne. Other than that, my advice on the other thread still holds.

You might consider bringing a rogue as well-Song of Courage can help on a lot of levels. Dog and summoned pets-maybe both- will often be faster than a human, except for maybe Bear. Undead will be immune to nature damage, so Spider's Poison Spit might make you leave him behind. Bear is too big, so the summoned dog might be best. That and the summoned dog can Overwhelm at level 7.

Spells-the glyphs are your friend. Cast them as often as you can. Use a flame staff with 30% elemental damage if possible. Using a staff might actually be faster than casting spells, and with Staff Focus and hexes you can over 100 points of damage to the undead with a high spellpower. Flaming Weapons will help, but it won't be effective with summoned creatures like pets. Telekinetic Weapons can help with armor penetration.

Shale-can be a useful fourth if you can use him. His paralyzed mode will give your party a lot of buffs, but sadly I don't think it will help the NPCs. Cleansing Aura can help the NPCs, but next time I might stick close to Lloyd so I can save him.

I keep 2 by the Chantry and 2 by the Windmill and alternate using the Hold option. It's tricky but it works for me since I go there early in the game. Stupid Dwyn ruined it though on my last PT. Who thought RUNNING INTO A FIRE was a great idea?

Level 8 is quite early for attempting this. I'd agree with your idea of levelling up a bit elsewhere, in Soldier's Peak and may be a bit in Denerim.

Or you can start the Beciilan Forest - its easier than Denerim or Ozammer

Update

I did  a few quests and went back to Radcliffe this time i can complete it with no great problems. I did it three time trying to keep the NPCs alive but was unsucessful.

The Knights at the mill are easy enough (when they don't decide fighting in the fire is a good idea) But the NPCs by the Chantry always seem to die despite my best efforts.

It would be nice to keep Murdock alive but he always dies. Does anybody else replay Radcliffe to try to keep the NPCs alive and any tips on how to do so.

In general, no. It is not really worth it. All it changes is a few lines of dialogue and a few crappy items (the ring and the helmet). I've managed to keep everyone alive a few times, but I wasn't particularly trying to do so.

It is easier on PC where you can heal or force field the villagers. You can't do so on consoles as you can only target your party members.

I have done it several times. The key is getting down the hill as quickly as possible and then keeping a close eye on the various villagers' health. Your mages can heal them back up to full if they have the approrpiate healing spells.
