What ability rings do you use?

Just curious what everyone uses, im always hesitant to swap out crit rings and what not for them.

 

Currently use,

 

Static cage

Longshot

Walking bomb

Explosive shot on archer until I get Longshot. Hella good. Other than that you have it covered, except maybe Barrier ring.

I went ahead and switched all of my mages and warriors to paired purple attack rings, 20% increase on everything I do or 30% on 2 things. I like it on everything. Rogues get a purple HoK and whatever skill I use the most with a 30% except Isabela who gets a purple attack.

I'd probably use Long Shot, but I'm not playing Archer at the moment. Chain Lightning sometimes makes an appearance, but I normally switch ability rings out for attack/crit damage after a few games.

A good question. I have all of them, so I may try some out soon.

 

I think the value of these really sky rocket with more promotions. I don't have an extreme number of promotions 37 44 36 atm, so I think crit chance/damage rings still out weigh most ability rings. I do use longshot on my archer though.

 

I need to give static cage a try. I don't keeper much right now though.

Keeper = Barrier ring and Static Cage Ring (am I wrong for this?).

 

Archer = Long Shot ring

 

Katari = Mighty Blow ring. I'm wondering if I should use Charging Bull instead but mighty blow can be multiplied if a enemy is knocked down so I think I'd get more damage with the ring. I could be very wrong. I also use the Whirlwind ability and I have that ring. Need more fingers, or a helmet.

 

Necromancer = Walking Bomb

 

I'm sure I probably have a ring on more characters. Maybe rings I shouldn't have on them.

 

Alchemist = Shadow Strike

Not a big fan of ability rings, they seem to random/buggy for me. Usually roll with hok and crit dmg ring.

I thought chain lightning ring and barrier ring didnt work properly in SP and MP. Did I read something false ?

Charging Bull is a better choice. mostly because of cooldown. In the time you hit once with mighty blow (even let say 5 targets) you can easily hit with charge 20 "times". You can hit target twice with charge.

As for the explosive shot ring, it gives only 20%, so most of the time crit damage/attack/crit chance is a better choice.

Does barrier ring gives something more aside from boosting barrier strength by 30% (so "low strength of spirit")?

Chain lightning works fine.

Can't comment on barrier though. Definitely doesn't work on ZITHER! though.

Yeah it needs to be a barrier named ability to work so if it works it would only work on Keeper and Elementalist. Zither would need a Cold Chords ability ring that buffs the amount of barrier Cold Chords produce.

On most chars I use 2 hok or hok+attack (i have no purple crit related rings sadly). Long shot, static cage, and walking bomb all get rings because their rings are stronger than advertised and/or they're exceptionally important abilities in their kits (barrier doesn't need a ring imo). I would also put on rings for power chord, korth's might, and most of isabella's abilities (build dependent) if I could.

Reaver wishes dragon rage ring existed, but that would be a bit ridiculous.

I'd probably test a deathblow ring on the assassin if deathblow didn't have so many bugs, but since it does I just tend to avoid playing her.

I might put one on an attack for the alchemist if she was a better damage dealer, but she's not really. A flask ring would be good if they existed.

I don't have one on the elementalist because I don't know if they increase burning damage. I'll have to test, but he's a strong candidate for one as I tend to only use one ability for damage and the other three for utility (barrier, wall of fire, firestorm).

Templar's cross class combo isn't boosted by ability rings afaik so a general ring for her.

Hunter, katari, and lego don't really lean on one particular ability for their damage imo so general rings suit them better.

Yes it work, you can check the Ability power in description, before and after putting the ring. About Zither? well i have nothing else to give him....

I remember there were some issue with the barrier ring and barrier decay. I therefore did a simple test with my keeper and my cellphone's stopwatch. 
 
Barrier decay test
- Keeper
- "Manual" stopwatch
 
Barrier
Without ring: ~12.0s
With ring: ~12.0s
 
Barrier (knight-protector)
Without ring: ~17.8s
With ring: ~17.8s
 
Barrier (knight-protector + strength of spirits )
With ring: ~17.8s
Without ring: ~17.8s
 
Errors: "Manual" stopwatch do not give precise values.
 
From the simple test, it is possible to conclude:
- barrier ring do not affect the barrier decay negatively
- strength of spirits do not affect the barrier decay negatively
- knight-protector helps the barriers natural decay with more than 35% (~48%)

You should. You'd get more utility out of it. You should drop WW though for a HoK if you've got one, and drop WW from the bar all together.

. . .But no, I don't use ability rings in general, I go for my super attack and sunder rings, though I use the Static Cage ring on Keeper and I THINK my archer uses the Long Shot ring. . .but I don't use archer so that point is moot I suppose.

EDIT: I use Block and Slash ring on my Katari. That ring is glorious.

I'm curious, why WoF?  Ele has tons of cooldown reduction and its base duration is already quite long.

 

Permanent area denial via Panic, plus a burning dot. Your FW will last longer than its cd. FW Ring is the reason I claim I can solo perilous level 5 at any gear or promotion level (because I've been doing it since november).

 

The only enemies guaranteed encountered are dagger rogues, commander are immune to panick at all times. Arcane Horrors, Revenants, Giants, fire venatori spellcasters and some enemies with barrier are often immune (rage demons), but only while that barrier is up (and not DD's).

 

If you are Ele with FW ring and FW, you can declare a chokepoint yours and it is GG for the enemy faction. FM and Fstorm guarantee this by covering the enemies not panicked by FW (Dagger rogues, Demon Commander) through burst damage and knockdown. VC and RTC give you some trouble but that's what Barrier + Kiting is for.

I think the bug with the barrier ring was with cooldown.  If you equip the ring barrier cooldown is longer.

I was confused because I'm doing the same thing without the ring (perma wall, not soloing), but I just realized it's probably because I'm using a cooldown amulet to take a good chunk off the cooldown before my passives close the rest of the gap.
