I'm thinking the answer on the question whether the chests are worth their gold or not will most likely depend on your luck with them. If I were to get a few items with these chests that I was unable to obtain through 'normal' means before I'm likely to give it a big yes.

Pardon my ignorance but was there an official statement confirming Prestige does affect drop rates? I must've missed it.

...I broke down and threw $100 at the item store. It took $55 in to get my HoK ring (though I did get the cooldown amulet before hand I think). Spent the rest only to get duplicates, but at this point the only thing I'm really missing is a second HoK ring, so that's (sort of) ok. My wife, despite only playing half as long as I, already had two HoK rings. Guess what she got when cracking open the new chests; another full set of HoK rings. **** me, RNGeezus clearly favors some, and scorns others.

Did exactly the same as you but it was last weekend.. after working most of the weekend and reading about those Luvly class chests delighting others with superb HOKS and all sorts of high end goodies I returned home and purchased the biggest platinum offer available..very first rogue chest I opened had a superb hok.. within 20 minutes I was salvaging excess healthbelts and HOK rings , cool down amulets , several LbotG and a pbtm etc..didn't get a superb stamina though..only item missing now..

I opened mine, got Ranged defense belt and Enhanced Rally Ring after being told it was removed from the game.

Sure, my character dies with 4 or 5 hits, but I rest peacefully in the knowledge that there was a one-in-ten chance that I may have slightly inconvienienced my murderer by dulling the shine of his chestplate with my intestines a little. Or not at all.
