It's really starting to sound like you're just being obtuse about this whole thing.
I'm not trying to be, but people seem to be continually misinterpreting what I'm saying so I'm trying to find other ways of saying it.
Is that why MS are selling xbox controllers in two packages? When I bought mine there were two controllers, both identical one had a box marked "for xbox" and the other "for PC" yet they were the same controller. Both had USB cables. Or is there an actual difference, oh and the price was different for each..
There isn't really a difference, my Xbox 360 controller that came with the console works just fine in my PC. They only do that cause people will pay the difference in price.
Of course, one can always put in a block so that it refuses to work if it detects that a "for PC" controller has been plugged into a Xbox =P
A console is specifically made and optimized for multimedia applications. The purpose of a general purpose computer is to give an architecture that is suitable to run any application. If I had the same hardware on my PC vs a console, the console would run better. If I wanted to push my rendering, I would mod the console in that aspect.
Well the PS4 uses the same architecture since the cell that the PS3 used was a pain to develop games for despite it being more powerful. It's just the OS that's designed to use resources more efficiently for running games. Windows is also usually made to run a bit less efficiently than it could because people run a lot of unnecessary background programs.
Valve is currently working on the SteamOS which is supposed to be a PC usable OS designed specifically for multimedia, but we don't entirely know how that will stack up yet.
My point is that a current big strength of owning a Console is that it's a cheaper initial investment that is more reliable for working when you put the disc in and hit play.
It seems to me that people who want modding should stick to PC and we should work on our OS being bad at resource management rather than trying to make Consoles more like PC and say "screw you" to people who like that reliability.
