So I've finally powered through the tutorial of DA:O and on my marry way with Alistair and Morrigan on my quest. So when I get around to DA2, what DLC's worth it? If you could give me a lowdown on the important ones, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

There are two.

Legacy is arguably 'essential'.

Mark of the Assassin is very enjoyable.

Both are DA2 at their best and and in my opinion are best played mid-late game.

I played both of those DLC's toward the end of act 2. I wanted Carver to a companion in both of them so that seemed to work best for me. I agree that Legacy is a must for me and I enjoyed Mark of the Assassin because I thought it had some funny companion dialogue. I don't consider DA2 to be complete without Legacy and I wouldn't want to miss playing the other one either.

Thank you for telling me. I just checked the stuff from Origin and the last DLC is the Exiled Prince. Is that Character worth $7 like Kasumi from ME2?

Maaaaaaaaybe?

Sebastian is a mixed bag. I appreciated his honesty and his good character; some found him dull or preachy. (He is very religious, though he's not in your face about it constantly.) As an archer, he's definitely a lot more versatile than Varric because he can use different bows and his abilities are, on the whole, more useful than Varric's.

You can definitely do without the DLC, as the choices of what you did in them can be selected in Dragon Age Keep. I just watched someone play them on YouTube then made made my choices in the Keep and kept the $30 I would have had to fork over to EA.

I'd recommend The Exiled Prince simply for the extra character. He's not a definite fan favourite, nor overpowered like Kasumi was. But he pulls his weight in battle, adds an interesting new perspective to the story, and actually has some rather fun banter with certain companions.

His critics mostly call him preachy and boring. But that's all a matter of opinion. I liked him.

My reply here is assuming you're playing these games as a partial preparation for playing DAI. So with that in mind...

Exiled Prince has...

Spoiler

But it isn't hugely necessary and you can safely skip it if you don't care about an extra character.

Also, if you are playing DA2 on PC and ARE going to play with the Exiled Prince DLC, I recommend only patching to 1.03 -- read why here and see my sig for the official download of 1.03.

I'm not going to say whether a DLC was enjoyable or not; that is subjective. But you can safely ignore Mark of the Assassin as it has no connection to DAI. Legacy is directly connected to DAI and I strongly recommend playing this. I also suggest Act 2 or 3 for playing through this DLC.

Enjoy.

Sebastian?

Pffft...

If you have a little money you don't value highly, this DLC is 'fine'.

As a completionist I bought it.

But it's not in the same league as the other two...

Oh yeah, I like that one too. Sometimes I do Seb's quests and also use him a lot and in other games I do his quests and then mostly ignore him but either way, I like having that DLC as part of my game, also.

Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are the best parts of Dragon Age 2. Both contain things more interesting than anything in the main game. Legacy ties to Inquisition and Assassin has a fun theme and gives a very interesting look at the Qunari, whom we don't know that much about, really.

On Exiled Prince, I liked having Sebastian around. Combat wise he's a traditional archer, which you may want since they limited how each character fights in DA2. Character wise, he's as one dimensional as all the other party members, but like the others, provides interesting party banter. I still say Bioware's greatest accomplishment in DA2 was getting such boring characters to have such interesting interactions.

Yeah, Sebastian isn't as deep as the other 2 DLC, but his story isn't bad. He's religious, but not a zealot (not in your face about it and everything). The Mark of the Assassin is fun, though it really doesn't add much overall to the game. Legacy gives insight into Hawke's past (and works best if your sibling and mother are still alive and sibling comes with you).

Mark of the Assassin doesn't add a lot to the game, but it adds a lot to the world. If you're a fan of Dragon Age's universe, you'll like it.
