I'm on my 2nd run through DA, this time as an city elf rogue, and I've been to everyplace on the map and never had the meteor ore even happen. Which of course means I'm lvl 12 and still no Starfang. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas how to get it to trigger? Of course, I've done the Warden Keep quest(s) and the merchant and smithy are set up and I've talked with them both.
No meteor ore event

It's random. It happens - or it doesn't.

What worked for me was: keep traveling up and down from Red Cliff to the DLC location of The Stone Prisoner.

Nope - I've never had it happen there. It's almost always been between Orzammar and Denerim. It just happens where you happen to be travelling at the time of the random occurrence. Some people get it near Lothering. Others near Lake Calenhad Docks.

correct it is entirely random I have had it appear as my first encounter out of lothering and also have not gotten it until just before landsmeet, but have never gone through any playthrough without getting it somewhere.

I do believe you have to have the wardens keep DLC as that is the only place you can get it made into a weapon.

Download the mod which makes the map events more common.

Every play through it has occurred between Orzammar and the docks. Just travel back and forth and it will happen. There are 1 or 2 other events that can occur before hand. Just a few load screen and it will happen, it isn't that random and it is fairly predictable.

No it's pretty much random. It happened to me on my way up to denerim from warden's keep.

Also, no downloadable content is needed in order to encounter the event. I don´t have any, and I got it.

I have stone prisoner but not Warden's Keep and got it.
As an aside, I am on my third playthrough and just got it the for the first time last night.

You do need the DLC to turn the metal into Starfang.
One word of caution: If you start running from place to place trying to trigger the event, you will see a lot of 'Old Tegrin'.
Also, as far as random events go, there are rarer ones. I finally saw Axemeter on my last play through. I had heard about it, but never seen it until then.

I've had at least 4 full playthroughs and never gotten the axe encounter. The meteor used to always pop up and usually early in my game, but on the last 1 1/2 playthroughs, nothing. So it is indeed very random.

I noticed that in my last few playthroughs it always comes when I'm travelling to the Circle Tower. Twice it has happened that right after completing WK I speak to Mikhail then travel to the circle and it appears. The second time I did lose the battle with the wolves and traps twice before it appeared though. The other time I was going there to ask for the mages help with the demon of Redcliff.

Thanks for the input. I hope I get the ore so I can get Starfang. When you say you just finished "WK", what are you referring to? I'm sure it's something obvious, but I can't think of what it might be.

WK = Warden's Keep (of course)

Between Orzammar & Denerim, and Orzammar and Redcliffe. It's slated to only happen in Mountain or plains. so if you go between Redcliffe and the ELf Camp, it's won't trigger. Or so I heard.

True - between Lothering and Denerim it won't trigger.
Edit; why did I say Orzammar? I mean of course Denerim!
