Alistair. My first playthrough of DAO, exploring Ferelden with his whiny self...It will always hold a special place in my gaming heart. I love that crybaby.

Dorian.

I did a playthrough where I was working on being a jerk and I just could not be mean to the guy.

Wow, this is tough.  There are so many great ones.  I guess I can probably narrow it down to Sten and Varric (DA2 Varric, specifically...I still love him in DAI, but he's just not the same the second time around).

Sten was a fabulous example of a character who was both friend and enemy...I can finish the game with nothing but respect for him, and knowing that I can trust him with my life against the Blight...but also knowing that in the long term, all we can hope for is, to paraphrase him, not to find each other on the battlefield when the time comes.  He also felt like the most neutral perspective on the Qunari, making him fascinating not only for his own character, but for the culture he carried with him.

And Varric?  Well, he's my best bud.  All my characters had one...Oghren for my Warden, Cole for my Inquisitor, and Varric for my Hawke.  The difference being that the others are admittedly sort of headcanon-y, while Varric's best bud status is totally official.  He's more or less a permanent member of my party in DA2, and he's got both style and substance...a classy attitude, while also being a remarkably deep character.

This is a tough one. It's so much easier to decide which companion I like the least.

I guess I'm gonna have to go with Cassandra. Dorian, Sera and Isabela don't trail far behind.

Another vote for Alistair.
He is funny, vulnerable, loyal, and a darn good tank. Loved watching him grow up and step up to the plate. I know some thought of him as dumb, but if you actually listen to his dialogue, he knows a lot of history, lore, religion, and knows all about the nobility. His whining works for him LOL... heck he gets Wynne to mend his socks!

Reading over the posts, I'm quite surprised. Quite a few mentions (both favourites and ones that come close) of left-field choices, which is good to see.

It's pretty obvious my favourite, given my signature. Merrill. <3<3

2nd fav would be Leliana, and my 3rd, Velanna.

I honestly cannot choose between Dorian and Alistair. I just love both of them to bits.

Loyalty is not something that i would use to describe Alistair, last time i checked he abandoned me in my Loghain redemption ending, because forgiveness and sacrifice were concept beyond him,he is the man child even in DAI after 9 years,i have seen the scene in which he met Kieran, and the way in which he describe him is disturbing and truly awful, given the fact that in the scene he is his father.

Anyway Carver, his rival relationship with his elder sister a mage Marian Hawke is something truly remarkable,he hates her,but he also care for her.

Isabela if I have to pick one. I liked having a companion that didn't treat me like the centre of the universe even if romanced.

*makes increasingly overclocked, panicked facial expressions, starts sweating, eventually bursts out uncontrollably*

SER JORY I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE HE'S LIKE A 2H WARRIOR AND HE HAS A FACE AND A COUPLE OF HANDS AND OTHER LIMBS AND A WIFE AND A GOATEE AND THAT ISN'T TERRIBLE?!

*breathes heavily, narrows eyes*

...where am I?

Ah!! I'm torn between Alistair and Cole (obviously...). It's as if I had to choose between my husband and my child, it's impossible!!

For the poll's sake AND because it's Mothers Day today here in Orlais...I mean France, I'd say Cole then.
