Bioware calls you up out of the blue in a panic. They've been so busy creating the setting and graphics for ME Next that they've completely forgotten to allocate anyone to creating the companions! For weird, cosmic reasons you're the only person that can help them out, and they need you to create all 7-9 companions for the game. Be as detailed or as vague as you like, but they should all include a race, a background, and a personality, if nothing else.

(This is all in good fun, so feel free to keep it to just a couple companions if you'd like, but you should do at least two so you can have squad-mates. Also, I'm well aware that the premise is absurd. No need to point it out or break it down.)

*Does so anyways*

If Bioware is calling upon what we call the BSN to come up with the characters of their games, then they have wholesomely failed at doing the one thing they excel at in the RPG genre.

I would hang up the phone and let them suffer.

---------

But, as I like doing this sort of thing, and in the name of Jolly Co-Operation:

-The general type of characters I prefer are those without excess amounts of baggage and drama. What can I say, I like me that sweet sweet comedy.

1) Zarr'Coris nar Wayyar: The Krogan raised by Quarians. (Sentinel Class; Pure-Tech)

OOC Background: This character was already pretty much written up, and stems from a topic that came up during the Mass Effect Multiplayer (around the time of the Male Quarians), wherein there was a Krogan in our otherwise Quarians squad. . .And thus, the writing began and Zarr was created.

Background Synopsis: The survivor of a clash between two Krogan clans, Zarr was a baby when he was found by Quarian salvagers amidst the ruins. Despite the herculean task of raising a Krogan (who are known to be aggressive, not to mention dirty, levo-protein based, big, did I say aggressive? ETC), the salvagers brought the baby along. And so Zarr grew up as a Quarian, and (with much relief from the Captain of his ship) eventually headed out on his Pilgrimage. When the player meets him, he is selling his services as a travelling bodyguard, making money to fulfill his Pilgrimage with.

Personality: Unfittingly for a Krogan, Zarr is both very patient and extremly docile, with every movement made and word spoken being chosen specifically not to encroach on others. It took years of discipline to get him to be this way, as having a full-blown Krogan living long-term on a Quarian ship is...just not a good idea...but don't worry, he still has that trademark Krogan ferocity when on the battlefield! He continues to wear his own enviro-suit around others as a courtesy (and it makes him pretty easy to notice). In general, he supports peaceful actions the player makes and is generally not approving of renegade or selfish acts. He lives up to the Quarian ideals of Loyalty, Selflessness, and Co-operation, and isn't exactly thought highly of by any other Krogans he may encounter before or while traveling with the player. It also seems that those feelings are mutual and that Zarr has no interest in returning to Tuchanka or finding out more about 'Being a Krogan'.

Note: As I feel certain that ME:Next will be part of a storyline that runs parallel to the Shepard trilogy (likely in the timeframe of One and Two, ignoring Three) rather than being some 'Andromeda' Nonsense, I am not at all worried about the possibility of Quarians being non existent.
-------------------------------

2) [NAME HERE], the Renegade Raloi

3) Hudson, the EUCC draftee (Soldier Class)

Background Synopsis: Hudson was a rising star in the EUCC; the Earth Urban Combat Championships. A full-contact combat-sport, Hudson was receiving offers from such teams as the Edmonton Blood Dragons and the Rhode Island Knights, before deciding to enlist with the Alliance Marines. This eventually brought him under the command of the player.

Background: I'm lazy.

Personality: He's got that mix of 'football player' and 'marine' personality. He's a jock, thinks he's indestructible and the greatest thing to happen to the game. But he's also a team player and a patriot to his home. Staunchly Pro-Human, he tolerates but remains suspicious of any alien crew members the player brings aboard. He supports the player when they operate to the benefit of the Alliance, the team, and to humans in general. He disapproves of the player being selfish or supporting aliens over humans be it between individuals or large groups.

Note: Still operating on the assumption of a parallel storyline, and one that likely features another human N7 lead.

Alright Bioware, here you got my dream team:

All ME2 squad mates except for Garrus, Tali, Jack and Jacob. You just clone Thane back to life and put Legion back together. Because I say so...

Ashley, Kaidan, James and EDI. Steven Cortez can become a squad mate too if he likes.

And one or two new characters: I'm thinking an Asari commando and a Russian woman that is a soldier and a scientist. Astrophysics maybe. With a nice Slavic name, like Svetlana or Katinka.

Oh, and major Kirrahe or another salarian can join in too...

I want grey characters instead of "Good guy clone" and "Bad girl vol 2" s. So here goes Ashley, Kaidan and Jacob and their derivates.

Fill our group with people like Loghain, Jolee Bindo, Kreia, Bastila(She was mostly "light" but she had her times with ambition), Morrigan, Sten etc.

From ME I admit Legion was a nice touch. Jack, Thane and Zaeed were interesting. (Though Zaeed and Jack kinda close to darker sides, so you may pass them aswell)

Also you can design everyone or most of characters as "optional characters". If you were too brutal(renegade) some wouldn't join or if you were too forgiving(paragon) some would walk away thinks you're not tough enough, while some have no preferences but leave you if you go to light/dark side etc. That'll make replayable value even higher.

Rest(race, gender) i don't mind. Just don't overdo it like you did with Tali. I mean Quarrians were interesting and i like(d) her but Tali acted like a spambot while trying to "advert" her people. Ships, geths, life support stuff, engines, lack of homeworld okay i got you no need to talk about that after 6 million times. Have Shephard talk endlessly about earth to you? No? Then shut up please, change subject, go get me a cigar whatever.

Batarian brawler... Or some kind of a pet class. Give him a Varren.

Or just let me play this guy. But I'll take it as a squadmate.

Using this as a guideline for context, I guess my squad would look a little something like...

-Female Drell vanguard. Formerly personal security for Hanar dignitaries and politicians. Outwardly stoic and cold but personable and fun loving once her guard is down. Romanceable, obviously.
-Male Krogan sentinel. Born on Thessia and raised by an Asari Matriarch to be skilled in countless forms of art and combat, he's a powerful warrior with an even temper on and off the battlefield. He has no love for Krogans and prides himself on his intellect and controlled emotions.
-Asari Commando soldier. Born to a wealthy and influential amoral family on Illium but disowned after joining the Asari military. Despite a total lack of biotic abilities she quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the youngest Commandos and the first Commando with no biotic abilities. She's hotheaded and cocky and uses her sexual wiles to get what she wants. Romanceable, obviously.
-Male Batarian adept. Formerly the commander of a special Batarian task force with the goal of policing Batarian pirates and slavers to avoid political and military blowback. Abrasive and argumentative, he's a staunch believer in moral relativism and solipsistic greed/personal enrichment. Romanceable?
-Male Quarian sentinel. A special operative for the Flotilla tasked with acquiring resources and intelligence for the fleet by whatever means necessary. Essentially a Quarian Robin Hood, preying on the rest of the galaxy. Fiercely loyal to his people and deeply distrustful of other races, he keeps to himself and doesn't open up easily.
-Female Human engineer. An N7 operative skilled in explosives, sabotage and assassination. For years she was an "off the books" operative, dealing primarily in wetwork and sabotage in the interest of human advancement. She shows signs of sociopathy with occasional flashes of passion or empathy. Romanceable.
-Male Human infiltrator. An N7 operative skilled in hand to hand combat, infiltration, investigative techniques and "reading" people. Basically James Bond in space, he formerly infiltrated Cerberus and took down a dozen high ranking Cerberus leaders, shut down dozens of Cerberus operations, and had a hit put on his head by the Illusive Man himself. He's suave, persuasive, manipulative, and always working an angle. Romanceable.
-Female Turian vanguard. Formerly the leader of a Turian Cabal, she was personally assigned to this team by the Turian Councilor. Nothing is known about her personally and she seems to have a secret agenda. Romanceable, obviously.
-Male Salarian soldier. Jondum Bau, mother effers.

I think this would make a solid, interesting squad but this is just off the top of my head.

Asari

Salarian

Turian

Krogan

Batarian

Vorcha

Elcor

Hanar

Volus

Drell

Quarian

Vorcha

Raloi

Virtual Aliens

Yahg

Geth

I have to admit I'm curious to see a female Batarian and these so-called Virtual Aliens (would they be Geth-like in terms of uploading into hardware platforms but have emotions in addition to self-awareness?)

I'll go Human female, Human male, female Batarian, Asari, male Salarian, and one of these Virtual Aliens.  I also kind of expect at least one completely new alien race to fight along side us.

Well, I guess human will be included.

No asari. Maybe an unromanceable Atheyta. No molesters or stalkers with a crush plz.

I'd also like to see female Batarian/Drell/Volus/Elcor.

A romanceable quarian male.

And that's all I can think for the moment.

Also: +10 points for funny introduction :)

Do you even have to ask?

mass_effect_occitania___renegade_squad_s

After coming from the thread this was originally posted in, and seeing you posted here; I laughed more than I should have.

I'd like to see combinations we haven't seen before, not just reiterations of existing characters with a different name.

Asari Vanguard or Sentinel (Biotic) - Asari are biotics, and it wouldn't make sense for them not utilise their biotics if they're in a combat role. That being said, I'd like to see one that isn't an Adept. One thing that could be interesting is maybe to have the Asari have a more masculine personality; similar to Atheyta. They may be mono-sex (for lack of better term), but they could have a variety of gendered personalties.

Krogan Sentinel (Tech) - They're not completely technophobic as a species, but it wouldn't feel right if the Krogan squadmate didn't take on a more physical combat role.

Quarian Male Infiltrator - Love the Quarians, but another female would always be shadowed by Tali. Have a Male and with a flair for military tactics/scouting like Kal'Reeger.

Turian Female Adept - Just an idea of something I'd personally like to see. Although not a Nyreen clone in personality

Human Female Engineer - I kind of like the image of having an Indian/West Asian person for the role, just because we haven't yet. Also with an accent a la Frieda Pinto in Slumdog Millionaire.

Salarian STG Soldier - we need some more Salarians!

Human Male (Soldier) - Every ME game starts with two Human squadmates; I sense this trend will continue. Maybe more of a close quarters Soldier than compared to the Salarian.

New Species (Any class) - With two new species announced, and one slated to be the antagonists, we may see the other in a more allied role. Or maybe they're the Remnants.

I'll have a go:

1).  Human male.  Marine.  Lieutenant Fresh out of the Academy.  Engineer.  Think Jenkins, with a dash of Kaidan and James Vega thrown in.  This is his first mission, but he's got a Mindoir type background to drive him, so he's not as fresh faced as he might seem on the surface, but he has that Alenko romantic outlook on space and the future from ME1.  Bisexual Romance.

2).  Human Female.  Marine.  Mid-thirties.  Combat Veteran with an archive of "No S***" stories.  Soldier.  Basically, a female Zaeed with *less* facial scaring.  Collects My Little Ponies dolls.  Likes pink, flowers, and anything girly.  Anytime you approach her for conversation, there's a 50/50 chance she'll be field stripping a gun that could hole a tank, or reading some sappy romance novel with a box of tissues.  Bisexual Romance.

3).  Turian Female.  Former Scout/Recon.  Mouthy.  Cool.  Death Incarnate with a Sniper Rifle.  Infiltrator.  Basically, a female version of Garrus, crossed with Black Widow from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Bisexual Romance.

4).  Turian Male.  Biotic Cabalist.  Vanguard.  Former Spectre who said to hell with it and walked away.  Older, grizzled.  Visible Scars, a cybernetic arm, a cybernetic eye, and a mandible that's either missing the front half, or has it visibly replaced with cybernetics.  This guy has seen the Elephant, and got trampled, repeatedly.  Think, a less indoctrinated Saren, who isn't a racist bigot, but who's seen every rotten thing the galaxy has to offer.  Bitter and disaffected with the Hierarchy.  Bisexual Romance.

5).  Female Krogan Warlord.  1600 Hundred years old.  Biotic.  Sentinel.  Thoughtful.  Intelligent.  Fantastic sense of human.  A fondness for poetry, and a keen interest in history and spirituality.  Fought along side Shiagur in the Krogan Rebellions.  A mix of Samara, Bakara and Ashley Williams.  Non-Romance.

6).  Asari Commando.  Adapt.  Matriarch.  She's nearly 1200 years old, and she's seen and done it all.  She's raised daughters, fought wars, loved, lost, grieved and got better.  She also watched her daughters, grand daughters, and even great grand daughters fed into the grinder of the Reaper War, and doesn't much like to think about how many of them didn't come back.  A mix of Aethyta and Purple Fem!Hawke.  Female only Romance.

7). Drell Male.  Sentinel.  Not dying of Kepral's Syndrome.  Trained spy, assassin and saboteur.  Resents the Hanar, and considers the compact the de facto enslavement of his people.  Has a completely different philosophical outlook than Thane, and a different religion.  Male only Romance.

8).  Salarian Female.  Soldier.  Former STG.  20 years old.  Completely disaffected with Salarian Culture.  Think absolutely hates the practice of deliberately keeping down the numbers of Salarian females.  Effectively told her family to stick it right up their Chloaca when they wanted her to spend her life as a brood mare.  Went on to serve with distinction in the STG, before the political pull of her family lead her to walk away from Salarian culture altogether.  Non-Romance.

9).  Volus Female.  Vanguard.  Marine Major in the Volus Defense Force.  Absolutely having none of your BS.  Can, and will kick your posterior right up around your ears.  She's an absolutely brilliant business woman.  Fantastically rich due to how well she manages her investments.  But finds it terribly boring and would most rather be out on the front lines cutting a bloody swath though pirates, slavers, geth, Reapers, or anything else she's given permission to kill.  She's a Krogan Battle Master who got reincarnated as a Volus, but kept the blood rage and the love of Mayhem.  Wields a customized, double barrel, fully automatic Claymore that can not be unequipped.  It's named Tethas'Var.  Likes to tell Stories.  Non-Romance.

Pilot).  Human Female.  Cybernetic Arm and leg and facial scaring on the right side.  Former fighter pilot.  She got jumped by pirates while flying CAP for a human carrier.  Managed to cover the carrier long enough for them to scramble fighters, but took one to many hits.  Managed to land her bird, but got maimed in a cockpit fire before the deck crew could cut her out of the wreck.  Transferred to ship helms because military regs prevent pilots from flying fighters if they have cybernetic limbs.  Cheerful, good sense of humor.  Incredibly Smart.  Female Only Romance.

Executive Officer).  Human Male.  A bit on the young side.  Smart, fast thinking.  A bit cynical, and defensive because of his age.  Really good at his job to have reached his rank so young.  Career navy.  Grew up on space ships, and thinks planets are completely gross germ factories.  Female Only Romance.

Doctor).  Human Female.  Attractive.  Sarcastic.  Thinks you're an idiot for letting yourself get shot at all the time.  Morrigan in a medical uniform.  Male Only Romance.

Ship's Psychiatrist).  Male.  Old as dirt.  Facial scars that make Hackett and Zaeed wince.  Former N7 operative.  Retired after getting caught in an explosion, went to medical school, then specialized in psychiatric care, with a focus on combat related PTSD.  Non-Romance

Comm Specialist).  Human Male.  Owen from Gargoyles.  Stares at you blankly, silently judging you when you try to flirt.

Why so many people want krogan-raised-by-x race?

We need another Japanese thief. Period.

and a hanar.

Anyway it's hard to include background for characters since we don't know background for game.

Human female sentinel - Quite agressive, but naive and curious in same time. Has tendency to do something with good intentions and duck things up in result. Being blue eyed blonde is a plus. I mean we had brunette Ashley in ME1, brunette Miranda in ME2, brunette Ashley which looked like Miranda in ME3. It's getting repetitive.

Human male engineer - Devoted and loyal. Saves kittens from trees for Paragon, kills people for Renegade without batting an eye. Perhaps he's compensating for something in his past.

Krogan vanguard - Close to millenium age. Learnt to suppres his blood rage with sarcasm. Cynical, rude and disrespectfull in general. Joined PC because even krogans just can't tolerate his attitude anymore, even with his skills and experience. He'll never confess in that though.

Female turian soldier - Managed to keep positive thinking despite grim experience in the army. Joined PC becuase she believes that s/he can prevent Big War.

Asari adept - Merc and smuggler, with all traits which it. Racist and believes that only asari capable of ruling other species, ironically she is outlawed by asari government, still she works for everyone since money is her priority. Hired by PC because she can get anything and anyone anywhere.

Name: Octana Tanrian

Race: Turian

Sex: Female

Age: 27

Class: Engineer

Occupation: Pilot

Weapon proficiencies: Pistol, Assault Rifle

Appearance:

Spoiler

Background: Player meets Octana in a shady bar on a remote colony. Locals point to her as the only one capable and willing to risk the job that the player offers. She was once one of the best pilots in Turian fleet but was dishonorably discharged for disobeying the orders of a superior officer, hitting him in the process. After that she was forced to seek out private contracts but even those decreased constantly.

Personality: Octana is a straightforward person. She would say what she thinks about the mission and the commander directly in his face. She will also not abide by illegal activities such as smuggling, slave trade etc. Those character traits cost her a lot of money, since there are rare jobs that fit these criteria but people still seek her out due to her unmatched skills.
