If you're camping above 3200 meters (11K ft) altitude in the mountains and a thunderstorm rears its ugly head- run. Run for your pathetic lives. Happened to me and I made the mistake and stayed - never ceases to amaze me that I'm still alive. Literally being IN a thunderstorm is apocalyptic, I tell you.

When camping, always bring more rope than you think you need and always bring an extra large tarp.

If the humidity is above 70% and mosquitos are going nuts, pick up your phone, get a taxi and stay at a hotel.
Also never drink the brown water, doesn't matter if it's filtered, just DON'T.
